| 10501 |  | Obituary- Viergever, Joe 1 JOE ‘PAP’ VIERGEVER Joe H. “Pap” Viergever, 72, Route8, Topeka, died Friday, April 4, 1980, at a Topeka hospital. He was born March 31, 1908, at Willard, the son of Leonard and Adrianna VanDonge Viergever. He was a lifelong resident of Shawnee County. Mr. Viergever retired in 1970, as the superintendent of the iron works at Rinner Construction Corporation. He was a member of the Rossville Christian Church, and the Iron Workers Union Local No. 10, at Topeka. He married Gladis Brooks on May 23, 1928, at Willard. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Bob Viergever and Max Viergever, both at Willard; a brother, Chris Viergever, Rossvjlle; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Stevens, Aberdeen, Ida., and Mrs. Adrian Beer, Willard; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a infant son, Larry E. Viergever, on February 6, 1932. Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) at Parker-Price Mortuary with burial in Rossville Cemetery. | 10503 |  | Obituary- Viergever, Kathy Kathy Viergever Dies After Long Illness Services for Kathy Ann Viergever, seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Viergever of Maple Hill, were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Penwell-Gabel Chapel in Topeka. She died Thursday morning in a Topeka hospital where she had been ill for six weeks. An autopsy report showed the cause of death was a kidney disease. Burial was in Dover Cemetery. Kathy was born April 4, 1956 in Topeka. She was a student at Rossville Grade School and a member of Willard Community Baptist Church. Besides her parents, survivors include six brothers, Donald of Route 8, Topeka, and Glen, Anthony, Larry, David and Darrell, all of the home; and two sisters, Miss Helen Viergever and Mrs. Rosemarie Anderson of Topeka. | |

She was born July 19,1912, in Manhattan, the daughter of David E. and Laura Biddle Simmons. She lived most of her life in Topeka. Mrs. Viergever was a member of Willard Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and served as Bible school superintendent. She married Andy J. Viergever on March 10, 1931, in Topeka. He died March 18,1996. Mrs. Viergever also was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Viergever, on Oct. 31,1963; a son, Glen M. Viergever, on Aug. 4,1993; and a grandson, Rodney Lynn Viergever, on Oct. 9,1966. Survivors include two daughters, Helen Viergever, Rossville, and Rose Marie Anderson, Auburn; five sons, Don Viergever, Auburn, Tony Viergever, Grove, Okla., Larry Viergever, Sarasota, Fla., David Viergever, Morton, III., and Darrell Viergever, Mayetta; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Parker- Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery at Dover. | 10505 |  | Obituary- Viergever, Max Max Loren Viergever WILLARD — Max Loren Viergever, 47, Willard, died of natural causes Monday, Dec. 28, 1987, at his home. Mr. Viergever was a carpenter and had worked for Bob Florence Contractor Inc., and Halsey-Tevis Inc. He had specialized in acoustical ceilings. He was born Jan. 14, 1940, at Willard, the son of Joe H. “Pap” and Gladis A. Brooks Viergever. He attended Willard Grade School and was graduated from Rossville High School. He spent most of his life in the Willard community except for a few years at Silver Lake and Kiro. Mr. Viergever was a member of the Christian Church in Rossville. He had been a member of Carpenter’s Union Local No. 1445 in Topeka many years and served in the department of Shawnee Fire District No. 4 in Dover Township several years. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Natalie Pauley, Carrollton, Texas, and Mrs. Robyn Leigh Hulse, Topeka; a son, Terry Lee Viergever, Pittsburg; his mother, Mrs. Gladis A. Viergever, Willard; a brother, Robert W. Viergever, Willard; and two granddaughters. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Burial will be in Rossville meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. | 10506 |  | Obituary- Viergever, Randy Randy L. Viergever Randy L. Viergever, 61, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at his home surrounded by his friends and family. Randy was born September 26, 1957, in Topeka, KS, to Donald Allen and Anna Mae (Walthall) Viergever. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1976. Randy married Karen Liggett on October 21, 1978. Together they had a daughter, Lisa Marie on September 19, 1984. He worked at Jeffrey Energy Center from 1977 to 1984. Upon leaving he started Viergever Trucking for which he contracted with Kansas Sand and Concrete for 32 years. He enjoyed coaching Softball for his daughter’s team for several years. Randy was a loyal friend and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his mother. Randy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Viergever; daughter, Lisa Viergever; father, Donald Allen Viergever, Sr.; brother, Donald Allen (Laura) Viergever, Jr.; sister, Theresa Viergever; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was Friday, February 8, 2019, at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions. Interment followed at Dover Cemetery, Dover, Kansas. Mr. Viergever had lived in and around Topeka, Willard and Rossville most of his life. He was with the Federal Land Bank of Wichita until his retirement a few years ago. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Veta Viergever, of the home; three sons, Richard Viergever of California, and Carrol and Don Viergever of Wichita; four brothers. Don and Leonard of Topeka; Chris of Rossville; and Joe of Willard; three sisters, Mrs. Albert Stevens of Topeka and Mrs. Trinnie Moyer and Mrs. Peter Beer, Willard: and six grandchildren. | 10508 |  | Obituary- Viergever, Robert W. Robert W. “Bob” Viergever, 90, Willard, KS, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at his home. He was born August 1, 1929 in Willard, Kansas to Joe Honas and Glades (Brooks) Viergever. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1947. In June of 1949 Bob joined the Marines and was awarded a Purple Heart after being injured in Korea. He was honorably discharged in October of 1950. He worked at Wagner Construction in Topeka, retiring in 1992. Bob was a member of American Legion Post No. 31 in Rossville and Carpenter’s Union in Topeka. On March 28, 1952 he married Doris Myers in Topeka. She preceded him in death May 29, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Max Viergever (58). Bob is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Shirley; children, Jan (Don) Dolezilek, Dover; Jay (Sue) Viergever, Overbrook; and Joy (Rick) Davis of Rossville; grandchildren, Haven (Eric) Byrne, Tanner (Jenny) Davis, Trace (Erin) Davis, Bethany (Dan) Ensle, Devin (Caitlyn) Viergever, Dalton (Rene) Viergever and Ashton Ketterman; 13 great-grandchildren; step-children, Bryce (Kelly) Benedict, Topeka; Dennis (Donna) Benedict, Illinois; Linda Benedict, Silver Lake; Diana Sabatino, Texas; grandsons, Matt, Nick, Daniel, Michael, Brett and Chris; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was born April 22, 1921, at Valencia, the youngest of 7 children born to Daniel and Anna (Rotman) Viergever. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. Walter graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1939. Walter was a farmer all of his life, and raised Angus cattle. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed his dogs. He was born and lived at the same location until he married. Walter married Jean Ekart Jeffries on Aug. 10, 1994, at Miami, OK. She survives of the home. He is also survived by one step-daughter: Betty Badura (Henry) of Rossville; 2 step-grandchildren: Bill Badura and Suzette Smith; 5 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. | 10513 |  | Obituary- Vilven, Georgia Mrs. Georgia Vilven Mrs. Georgia Vilven, 88, Wamego, died Thursday, March 1, 1990, at a Topeka hospital. She had been ill two months. Mrs. Vilven assisted her husband with Harmony Gardens, a wholesale florist business in Wamego, before they retired. They also operated a catfish farm near Wamego. She baked dozens of cookies for Kansas State basketball teams during the Christmas holidays many years. She was born Nov. 16, 1901, in Louisville, the daughter of George and Florence Elizabeth Reinhart Witts, and spent her life in the Louisville community. Mrs. Vilven was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wamego, Wamego Historical Society, Wamego Chamber of Commerce and the Mike Ahearn Club at Kansas State. She also was a member of Kansas Commercial Fish Growers Association and National Catfish Farmers of America. She was a former member of Lioness Club, Hillbillies Bridge Club and 4 to 12 Bridge Club. She was married to Wilford Vilven Dec. 5, 1923, in Louisville. He died May 10, 1980. Survivors include three nieces, Rossville, and Wanda Omer, Albuquerque, N.M.; and a nephew, Wallace Vilven, Wamego. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will be in Wamego City Cemetery. Mrs. Vilven will lie in state after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday. | 10514 |  | Obituary- Vilven, Wilford WILFORD R. VILVEN Wilford R. Vilven, 77, Wamego, died Saturday, May 10, 1980, at a hospital here after a long illness. He was born November 20, 1902, near Wamego in Wabaunsee County, the son of Arthur and Gertrude Banks Vilven. He lived in the Wamego area all his life. Mr. Vilven was a florist and a farmer. He owned and operated the Harmony Gardens Wholesale Greenhouse in Wamego until his retirement in 1968. He then owned and operated Leisure Acres Strawberry and Fish Farm, also of Wamego. He was past president of the Wamego Lions Club, where he recently was awarded the 40-year membership pin. He also was past president of the Wamego Historical Society. Mr. Vilven was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and the Wamego Chamber of Commerce. He was past secretary- treasurer of the Kansas Commercial Fish Growers Association and a member of the Catfish Farmers of America. He married Georgia Witts December 5,1923, at Louisville. She survives. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Edna Spears, Rossville; and a brother, Leland L. Vilven, Wamego. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial was in Wamego City Cemetery. She was born in Rossville, Kansas on March 12, 1919, the daughter of Henry and Monica (Prockish) McGuire. Josephine was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church. She married Pius Voelker in Delia, Kansas on September 21, 1937. He predeceased her on July 4, 1990 as well as a son Larry Wayne Voelker who died in 1992. Survivors include a son, Melvin Voelker of St. Louis, MO and a daughter Sharon Banks of Berryton, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Voelker was cremated. Graveside inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. | 10517 |  | Obituary- Vogel, Henry Henry "Hank" Daniel Vogel Henry "Hank" Daniel Vogel, 95, of Manhattan, passed away Monday, December 9th, at Homestead of Manhattan. Hank was born October 29, 1918, in Rossville, Kansas, son of Henry and Myrle (Hall) Vogel. He was a graduate of Berryton High School. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Company K, 345th Infantry Regiment, 87th "Golden Acorn" Division during WWII. He served under General Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the Bronze Star. Hank was employed as a maintenance supervisor with California Inn Management, retiring in 1988. Mr. Vogel was a life member of Post 17 American Legion and Pearce-Keller Post No. 17 V.F.W., both in Manhattan. Hank was married to Betty (Martin) Lorenz in 1942 in Topeka. They had one child, Lawrence. They were later divorced. He married Isla Mae Gates in 1972 and they were later divorced. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Cinda Vogel, of Manhattan; granddaughter Lindsay and husband Clint Silver of Osage City, and great-grandsons, Reed Silver and Chase Silver, of Osage City; sister Reta and husband Calvin Holmes of Topeka, and several nieces and nephews. Hank was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Edgar, Thurman, David and Bernard Vogel and a sister, Louise Vogel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, December 13th, in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, 801 Leavenworth, Manhattan, with Rev. R. C. "Cam" McConnell officiating. Private family inurnment will be at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan, KS prior to the service with Military Honors by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. It was Shirley Bond Irwin Voight of Tennessee. She grew up in Delia & attended Delia schools. She died the first part of May. Her parents were Oren & Marguerite Bond of Delia. Two of her daughters, Kim Dick & Karen Lira attended Rossville schools. They survive along with another daughter Tracy. Other survivors include a brother, Robert Bond of Missouri. | |

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Vorhies, Mrs. Dave Yocum of this city and Mrs. Etta Nelson of Topeka left Sunday morning in the Vorhies car to attend the funeral which was held Monday. The deceased lady had been in poor health for three years. Her death followed an operation. | |

Charley was a friend to all and a good citizen and neighbor to every one He was a devoted husband and father. Rossville had been his home for many many years with the exception of time spent on various vacations and tours of the states. Rev. Earl O. Harbour officiated Friday afternoon at the funeral services in the Methodist church. The Rev. C. P. Broadfoot of Topeka assisted. The music was furnished by Mrs. Levi Henderson and Mrs. O. S. Boyd accompanied by Edith Higginbotham The pall bearers were, C. E. Gresser, Frank Zickefoose, William Kerr, L. B. Crow, Sidney Stumbaugh and Laverne Spears. Burial in Rossville Cemetery with the Masonic order having charge at the grave-side service. CHARLES W. VORHIES Funeral services for Charles W. Vorhies, who died Wednesday at his home in Rossville, will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Rossville. Burial will be at the Rossville cemetery, with the Hesperian lodge conducting the rites. The body will lie in state at the Parker Mortuary from Thursday noon until Friday noon. Mr. Vorhies, who was 88 years of age, was born at Mount Ayers, Iowa and came to Rossville when he was 21. He married Miss Birdie Miller, March 31, 1882, and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this spring. Mr. Vorhies was a member of Hesperian Lodge 111, A. F. and A. M. of Rossville, Amarylis Chapter 321, OES, and the Rossville Methodist church. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Driscoll, of Topeka, and Mrs. Beulah McIntyre, of Rossville; one grandson, Frank B. He was born on Dec. 14, 1913, in Rossville, the son of Elton and Maggie Davis Vorhies. Mr. Vorhies retired from Whelan’s Lumber Company. He was a member of Topeka Lodge No. 555. He married Nellian Keich in 1937 in Topeka and later married Geraldine Cushing in 1994 in Oklahoma. They both pre¬ceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Tubbs; a brother, Ray Vorhies; and a sister, Ruth Weybright. | 10524 |  | Obituary- Vorhies, Josiah J. Vorhies Passes Away J. Vorhies passed away Saturday afternoon shortly after 2:00 after an illness of many weeks. Mr. Vorhies although well up in the eighties had a wonderful constitution and several times during his illness when it was thought he would only live a few hours, he would rally and once more renew his fight for life. Mr. Vorhies death was caused by catarrh of the liver. Mr. Vorhies had been a resident of Rossville about 14 years and before coming here had resided on a farm near Shannon City, Iowa. During his residence here he had won the respect and esteem of all the citizens of Rossville. The funeral was held Sunday at the Methodist church and one of the greatest gatherings in years attended the ceremonies. Mr. Vorhies was a member of Hesperian lodge, A.F. & A.M. under whose auspices the burial rites were conducted. Interment was made in the Rossville cemetery. Mr. Vorhies leaves a family of five children, Chas. of Los Angeles, Elton, of Scranton, Kan., Frank of Shannon City, Iowa, Mrs. Yocum of this city and Mrs. Nelson, of Oakland, all of whom were here for the funeral. -- We desire to thank our friends and neighbors for their kindness and assistance during the long illness, and the death of our dear father Josiah Vorhies. Vorhies funeral. -- Obituary At two o'clock Saturday afternoon, April 11, 1914, at his home in Rossville, Kansas, Josiah Vorhies passed from the cares and pains of this life to the happiness of the world beyond. He had reached his eighty third year. He had lived in Rossville 14 years and had won the love and respect of all who know him. He was born October 17, 1831 at Mt. Ephraim, Ohio. In 1852 when a young man of 20 years Mr. Vorhies made a trip to California when the gold fever was the highest. The nearest railroad was at Cumberland, Maryland. He went by stage to that place and from there to New York City, where he took a sailing vessel to the Chagres river. It took him 14 days to get that far on his journey. He crossed the Isthmus of Panama and took another sailing vessel to Sacramento, Calif. Something went wrong with the ship and he was 120 days getting to Sacramento. He and the rest of the crew came near dying from hunger and thirst before they reached their destination. He was in California two years. This trip was one of success, sickness and hardships. At the end of two years he returned to his home in Ohio over the same route but made better time. In 1856 he got the western fever again but this M.E. church and was conductime he landed in Ringgold county, Iowa. He took a homestead and became quite a prosperous farmer. In 1858 he was married to Miss Paulina Quinn. He and his wife were members of the Methodist church all their married life. There was born to them five sons and three daughters, all of them are living except a son that died at the age of seven. His wife passed away seven years ago. Mr. Vorhies leaves to mourn his loss seven children, fifteen grand children, five great grandchildren and four sisters. The funeral was held at the Rossville M.E. church and was conducted by Rev. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the warehouse for 35 years. He was a member of Rubber Workers Local #307. He married Norma K. Burman on July 31, 1970 in Beloit. She died March 28,1991. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Wade and William Wade, a sister, Donice Wollam, a daughter, Kerri Wade-Mattox, and a grandson, Thomas Matthews. At an age when most men are beginning to live comfortably and are planning to semi-relax for their remaining lives, Henry Wade was buried this week. Marshal Wade was known in the community not only as the law enforcer but recognized by the community people as a friend. He represented the community with a smile. His good manners were many times carried away by visitors who required his help and visitors who will always remember Rossville as a friendly community. Marshal Wade stood for loyal and enthusiastic support of the community. His every appearance before the public was one more proof to the community of his ever loyal support for the community welfare. If Mr. Wade spoke harshly, he spoke in what the community stood for, fair law enforcement and a right to be safe on the public streets. His duty to the community sprang from something more than duty as a law enforcer. Mr. Wade treated men of ill-moral well. He always did his best to stear a wrong-doer in the right direction. An arrest to Mr. Wade was not only a call of duty but an attempt to set a wrongful person on the right road of correction. Few law enforcing persons carry their duties along beside such friendliness, moral building, and community service as did Henry Wade. God's benediction came down quickly with the day, dropping from the skies, the day Mr. Wade left. His invocation and promise, “Peace on earth, good will to men.” | |

The Wade family was vacationing in Texas visiting relatives when the accident occurred Wade had been the Marshal here for nearly four years and was on his annual leave of duty. Horace Holder, of this city was temporarily on duty as Marshal during the vacation time. Funeral services were held today at 9 am at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with burial in Rossville Cemetery. The Rosary was recited at 8 pm Wednesday at the Hurley Funeral Home. He was born October 4, 1903, at Rossville. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Wade: a daughter, Zora Wade, and a son, Henry Wade Jr., all of the home; two stepsons, Ira Joe Seay, Fort Worth, Texas, and Leroy Seay, Midland, Texas; and two brothers, Ben Wade, Rossville, and James Wade, Ogden, Utah. Henry T. Wade, 53, marshal of Rossville and deputy sheriff of Shawnee County, was fatally injured Saturday in a head-on collision in a borrow ditch 14 miles south of Lamesa, Texas, on State Highway 349. Eight others in the collision were injured including slight injuries to Mrs. Wade and two children. Texas highway patrolmen said the car in which Wade was riding swung out into the ditch when its driver saw he couldn’t make it around a truck The driver of the oncoming car had the same idea as he sought, to avoid the smashup. Marshal Wade died in Lamesa General Hospital shortly after arrival. The car in which he was riding was driven by his stepson, Lee Roy Seay, 27, of Midland, Texas. He was a member of Northland Christian Church, Lake Lodge No. 50, AF & AM, and Citizen Band Potawatomi Nation. Jim married Betty Anne Edwards, Aug. 4,1946, at Emporia. She preceded him in death Dec. 5,2005. He was also preceded in death by siblings; Homer, William, Donice, and Benjamin, Jr. Surviving are a brother: Thomas F. Wade Sr., Silver Lake; a sister Clara M. George (Jonny), Trenton, Mo.; special friends Larry and Chris Cox, Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. | 10541 |  | Obituary- Wade, James Thomas James Wade James Wade passed away at 5 a.m. last Monday, after being in very poor health for the past two years. Death was due to heart trouble with rheumatism and dropsy as contributing causes. Mr. Wade had spent much of the time since he began to fail in health, under the hands of specialists and at various sanitariums, but without receiving little more than temporary benefit. After spending a restful night Sunday night he passed quietly away without regaining consciousness. Mr. Wade was born March 25, 1854, in Texas, and was 64 years, 1 month and 18 days old. Much of his early life was spent in Oklahoma, where he served many years as a United State marshal. He was united in marriage to Lucinda Thurber at the Sacred Heart Mission, Okla., April 22, 1884. To this union six children were born, two of them passing away in infancy. Since coming to Kansas and locating at Rossville the family has continued to make their home here, with the exception of brief periods in other neighboring communities. Mr. Wade had served as City marshal and night watch at various times in Rossville and was considered one of the best peace officers the city has had. The funeral was held at 10 a.m. today, from the Catholic church and interment made in Rossville cemetery. The surviving members of his family are the widow, and four daughters, Mrs. Bertha Weatherholt, of Madill, Iowa; Mrs. Jessie Whitlow, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Bessie Good Eagle, of Baxter Springs, Kan., and Mrs. Grace Dansenburg, of Galena, Kan. Of his parents family only one member remains, his brother, William Wade, at present employed at Green River, Wyo. An autopsy showed Mr. Wade died of a heart attack, Dr. Wike Scamman, deputy district coroner, said. Mr. Wade was born January 1, 1947, at Oklahoma City, the son of Henry T. and Anna M. Wade Sr. He moved from Rossville to Topeka in 1960 and was graduated from Highland Park High School in 1965. He worked for Kansas Fire Marshal’s office six or seven years and previously worked for Whelan’s Lumber Co. for nine years. He also work a short time at Topeka Truss and Kansas Power and Light Co. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and vice president of Domwood Girls Softball Association. He married Kathryn M. Frazier September 19, 1966, at Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Michele M. Wade and Cara A. Wade, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Anna M. Redding, Derby; a half sister, Mrs. Zora Faye Nicodemus, Derby; two half brothers, LeeRoy Seay, Graham, Tex. and Ira Joe Seay, Dallas, Tex.; two stepsisters, Mrs. Chris Peters, Silver Lake, and Mrs. Frances Kranz, Larkinburg; and a stepbrother, Willard D. Wetherholt in Merced, Calif. Mrs. Wade was born near Wamego, September 24, 1866, and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic church at Rossvillle. Most of her life had been spent in Rossville until about four years ago when she removed to Merced, Calif. Her home place at the corner of Green and South Perry was sold to Henry Wade. She was the granddaughter of Louis Vieux, early pioneer who founded Louisville in Poittawatomie County, and operated a trading post there in tihe early days. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Wetherholt, of Merced,Calif.; Mrs. E. H. Whitlow, Tecumseh; Mrs. Karl Fricke, Santa Monica, Calif., and Mrs. George Dansenburg, Wichita, five grandchildren, Made, Merton and Herbert Whitlow, George and Elizabeth Dansenburg and 10 great-grandchildren. | 10549 |  | Obituary- Wade, Norma Mrs. Norma Kay Wade SILVER LAKE — Mrs. Norma Kay Wade, 59, Silver Lake, died Thursday, March 28, 1991, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Wade worked many years for Hilltop Nursing Home in Lyndon and Rossville Valley Manor in Rossville. She later was a cafeteria cook at Fleming Foods Inc., before she retired in January 1987. She was born Sept. 13, 1931, at Topeka, the daughter of William and Wilma Underwood Burman, and at-tended Highland Park schools. She lived in Topeka, Lyndon and Quenemo before she moved to Silver Lake in 1968. Mrs. Wade was a member and past president of Jimmie Lillard Unit No. 31 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rossville. She was married to Benjamin C. Wade in July 1970 at Beloit. He survives. A daughter, Kerri Raye Richardson Mattox, died Feb. 15, 1985. Other survivors include a daughter, Donice M. Wade of the home; three sons, Michael L. Douglas and Phillip L. Richardson, both of Topeka, and Benjamin C. Wade Jr. of the home; three sisters, Dorothy M. Brown and Marilyn Burman, both of Topeka, and her twin, Naomi Fae Purdy, Meriden; a brother, Donald G. Burman, Topeka; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial will be in Foster Cemetery southwest of Topeka. He was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring after over 35 years of service. On September 20, 1947, he married Katherine Hoerner. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Fred and daughter-in-law, Judy Wade. Survivors include a son, Tom Wade, Jr.; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. The family will hold private services with military honors.
