Toddler Found In Greek In Critical Condition
from Topeka "Capital-Journal
A two-year-old boy was in crit¬ical condition at a Topeka hospi¬tal late Tuesday after he was found floating in Cross Creek, officials said.
Matthew Anspaugh was a pa¬tient at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, a nursing super¬visor said.
A Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department detective identified Matthew, 24 months, as the son of Ken and Paula Anspaugh, who live in a mobile home park at 422 Adrian in Rossville. The family’s home is about 50 yards east of Cross Creek, the detective said.
Rossville Marshal, Howard Bishop, said Matthew apparently had been playing outside with some other children "and just wandered away.”
The child's disappearance was reported by his mother about 4:45 p.m.-and a search was started immediately by her neigh-bors, the Rossville Fire Department and both members of the Rossville Police Department The boy was found by Rossville firefighters about five minutes later, floating face-down next to a log a few feet from the bank of Cross Creek, Bishop said.
The creek is higher than nor¬mal because of heavy rains Friday, April 26, he said.
The child had no pulse. Authorities didn't know how long he had been in the water.
The LifeStar helicopter ambu¬lance was called to the scene at 5:09 p.m. Bishop said Rossville firefighters restored the boy's pulse using cardiopulmonary re¬suscitation before he was flown to Stormont-Vail.
Matthew is in the pediatric in¬tensive care unit at the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Obituary- Argo, Clinton
Obituary- Argo, Clinton

ARGO
Clinton E. Argo, son of Earl and Etta Argo, was born in Delia, Kan., July 26, 1919, and made the supreme sacrifice in his country's service on Friday, October 22, 1943, having reached the age of 24 years, 2 months. 28 days. With others of the community in which they lived, he shared in its educational privileges, a graduate of the rural school and after one year in high school gave himself to farming with the home folks. In November of 1939 he joined Company E of Holton and two months' later with the Company left for Camp Robinson, Ark. After Pearl Harbor he was transferred to California and later to Camp Rucker, Ala.
His intrepid spirit chafed under the prolonged and continuous routine of the life at Camp Rucker. He wanted his life and service to tell for the most and with .several others was transferred to the Paratroopers Division, Fort Benning, Ga., on October 1. His letters since his transfer expressed his deep interest and satisfaction in what he felt was a more meaningful service offering opportunities to bring to his country a fuller measure of military devotion.
It was on last Friday evening when leaving Fort Benning with his Com¬pany on a maneuvering expedition that something went wrong with the plane fatally injuring twenty of the crew.
His buddies and those associated with him in Company E speak of Clinton as a wholesome lad, genial in his association, earnest and dependable in his work. He carried this mark of distinc¬tion—a good soldier.
He leaves beside the grief stricken parents, four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Hurla of Holton, and Adeline, Marzine and Edna of the home, and numerous other relatives, neighbors and friends who are in deepest sympathy with the bereaved family.

Makalyn Isabelle Aubert

Rossville- Makalyn Isabelle Aubert, 7, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020 at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She was born March 4th, 2013 in St. Louis, the daughter of Kenneth M. and Melissa A. Marple Aubert. Makalyn was diagnosed before she was born with Congenital Heart Defects. Her heart was backwards, on the right side of her chest and had only one pumping chamber. Makalyn was recently at SLCH for her 3rd heart surgery, the Fontan.

Makalyn just completed First grade at Rossville Grade School. Purple and turquoise are her two favorite colors. Makalyn’s favorite food is queso! Her favorite movies are “Wonder” and “The Greatest Showman”. Makalyn loved spending time with friends, playing T-Ball, eating at Qudoba and Texas Roadhouse, camping, going swimming, and making bracelets for others. She loved school, especially her teachers. Makalyn enjoyed playing Uno, riding her go-cart, watching Paw Patrol, reading Junie B. Jones books, texting, FaceTime, calling people, riding her bike, and delivering May Day baskets. Makalyn especially loved dressing as a twin with Klaire, fishing with Kelby, Rossville cheerleaders and Jr. Dawg cheer camps, and cooking treats to take to the neighbors. Her best buds were Milo, her Boston terrier, and Otis and Boomer, her two cats. Makalyn had a special way of attracting people to her and always Marched Fourth (March 4th) to whatever life dealt her. Our little Hummingbird will truly be missed.

Makalyn could not be an organ donor, but the family encourages everyone to consider becoming one.

Makalyn was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Butch and Beth Marple, Art Dawson, Hermina and Dave Hawley, James Aubert, and Leonard and Minnie Kuehler. Survivors include her parents Kenneth and Melissa Aubert, siblings Kelby and Klaire of Rossville, grandparents Ben and Carol Marple, Wakarusa, Marvin and Betty Aubert, St. Marys, great grand-mother Henrietta Aubert, St. Marys, Uncle Keith (Jenna) Aubert; Aunt Molly (David) Drimmel; Uncle Jay Marple; cousins Bailey, Isaac, and Keira Aubert, and Carter, Ruby, and Mabel Drimmel.
