| 6201 |  | Obituary- Herman, Clara 1 Miss Herman Dead The Young School Teacher Passed Away Last Sunday The many friends of Miss Clara Herman who taught last year at District 79, two miles south of Rossville, were shocked last Monday upon receiving the news of the death of the young woman they had learned to know and esteem so much during her residence in this vicinity. Miss Herman was sick only a week. On Sunday, August 11th she suffered an acute attack of appendecitus [sic], and a week later--last Sunday morning--was taken to Christ hospital where it was decided that no medical aid could save her. Miss Herman was twenty-three years old on the day of her funeral, August 20. She was born in Topeka but lived the greater part of her life in Seabrook, near Topeka. She was graduated from Topeka High School, in 1909 and the same year began teaching. Previous to the year she taught in Rossville vicinity she taught at District No. 5 near Silver Lake where she won the friendship and love of her pupils as she did here. | 6202 |  | Obituary- Herman, Clara 2 A particularly sad feature of Miss Herman's death is the fact that she expected to be married within a few months to a young man near Rossville. Miss Herman is mourned by everyone who had the privliege [sic] of knowing her. Her sunny disposition and gentle spirit won for her friends who will never forget her. The banks of flowers at the funeral gave mute evidence of their sorrow. Miss Herman is survived by her mother, Mrs. Susan Herman, three sisters, Mrs. Frank Mather, Miss Martha Herman and Miss Alberta Herman, and four brothers, Paul Claude, Matthew and Marcellus Herman. The funeral was held from the hone of Miss Albert Herman at 1600 College Avenue, in Topeka, Tuesday afternoon. The burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery. | |

Mr. Herrick was a heavy equipment and truck mechanic many years. He was born May 16, 1920, at Bushong in Lyon County, the son of Frank and Zlenna Love Herrick. He attended school in the Maxon community north of Emporia. Mr. Herrick served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and a past member of both Meriden and McLouth threshing show committees. Mr. Herrick was divorced. Survivors include three sons, Lee Frank Herrick Jr., Topeka, William Herrick, Rossville, and Fred Lee Herrick, in Oklahoma; two daughters, Karen Wescott, Kent, Wash., and Vickie Herrick, Marshall, Mo.; three sisters, Berniel Colglazier, Pueblo, Colo., Ione Hubert, Topeka, and Ila Whitlock, Rossville; five brothers, Dale K. Herrick, Robert R. Herrick, Harold G. Herrick, Gary L. Herrick, all of Topeka, and Ira E. Herrick, Eskridge; and many grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion will conduct graveside services at Stull Cemetery east of Topeka. Mr. Herrick will lie in state after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today. | 6204 |  | Obituary- Herrick, Lester Lester Lynn Herrick Sr. ESKRIDGE — Lester Lynn Herrick Sr., 52, Eskridge, died Thursday, Nov. 12, at his home. Mr. Herrick worked for May, Ran¬som and Sheetz Construction in Topeka. He was an Army veteran. He was born June 12, 1940, at Allen, the son of Frank and Zlenna Love Herrick. He grew up in the Eskridge community and spent most of his life in Eskridge. Mr. Herrick was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eskridge and Teamsters Union, Local No. 696 and Disabled American Veterans chapter, both in Topeka. He was married to Linda Masters on Oct. 4, 1962, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Becky Zeller, Eskridge, and Lynn Mitchell, Auburn; two sons, Lester Herrick Jr., Manhattan, and Jason Herrick, Eskridge; three sisters, Bernil Colglazier, Pueblo, Colo., Ila Whitlock. Rossville, and Ione Hubert, Auburn; tour brothers, Dale Herrick, Bob Herrick, Gary Herrick and Harold Herrick, all of Topeka; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church in Eskridge. Burial will be in Eskridge Cemetery. Mrs. Herrick was born July 15, 1925, in Doniphan, MO, the daughter of John and Elsie Tyson Barker. She lived in Slater for many years and had been employed by Town and Country Shoes before she retired. She lived in Rossville for many years before she moved to Slater. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Fayette, MO. She married Lee Herrick. He died in 1989. Two brothers also preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Jim Cole, Slater, MO; three daughters, Patsy Shiflett, Fulton, MO, Pam Crutchfield, Marshall, MO, and Joyce Burke, Alexandria, VA; one brother, James Barker, Del City, OK; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren. Her service was Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Sweeney Reser Wills Funeral Home, Marshall, MO. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Marshall. He lived in Rossville during the summer months for many years. Survivors include four sons, Todd Herrington, Wellington, Rodney Herrington, Emmett, Duane Herrington, St. Marys, and Dwight Herrington, Topeka; three daughters, Julie Veatch, Lenexa, Amy Herrington, Topeka, and Sara Herrington, Lawrence; and three granddaughters. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Horne in St. Marys. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery. Harry J. Herrington Harry J. Herrington, 60, Silver Lake, died Friday, September 20, 2002, at his rural Silver Lake home. He was born October 25, 1941, in Silver Lake, the son of Harold and Stella Thompson Herrington, and lived in the Silver Lake community all of his life. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1960. He was a farmer. On January 5, 1963, he married Anne Reaka in Topeka. They were divorced; she lives in Topeka. Other survivors include four sons. He was born in 1863 in Franklin county, and moved to Silver Lake with his parents when he was five years old. In 1907, he left the farm at Silver Lake and moved to a farm near the Boys’ Industrial school. He moved to Topeka in 1913 and operated a grocery store at 1335 North VanBuren street until he retired two years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Herrington; a brother, J. B. She was born May 31, 1943 at Sabetha, the daughter of Patrick and Clara Maurine Shadal Reid. Mrs. Herrmann graduated from Sabetha High School in 1962. She received her education degree from KSTC in Emporia and also her Master's Degree. Mrs. Herrmann taught at Delphos and had taught at Herington from 1969 until her retirement in 2004. She was a member of St John's Catholic Church in Herington. She also was a member of NEA, KNEA and Beta Sigma Phi. Patricia was a member of the Family Resource Exchange in Herington. Mrs. Herrmann was proud of her Irish heritage and had made several trips to Ireland. On August 30, 1962 she was united in marriage to Stephen J. Herrmann at Sabetha. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2003. Survivors include two sons. Scott (Diane) Herrmann, Silver Lake and Craig (Kiffany) Herrmann, Olathe; two brothers, John Michael (Cheryl) Rei, Chanute and Steven G. (Linda) Reid, Duncanville. TX; her sister, Ann (David) Barrett, Sabetha; five grandchildren. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. While living in Topeka, Marge attended Boswell Junior High, Topeka High School, Washburn University. She worked as a draftsman for both Bell Telephone and Kansas Power and Light. Mr. Hertlein built earth-mover tires for 38 years at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. before he retired in 1982. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Topeka, the son of John Hertlein and Christina Mauer Hertlein. Mr. Hertlein was a member of St. Joseph Church and United Steel Workers of America. He was married to Marcella Hafner on June 4, 1947, in Topeka. She survives. Heslet, 95, a longtime resident of Rossville who died Wednesday at a Silver Lake nursing home. He was born Sept. 20, 1874, at Rossville, where he was a farmer most of his life. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Elmer Rovell Heslet, Rossville, and two sisters, Mrs. Nora Ward, Rawlings, Wyo., and Mrs. Ada Folsom, Manhattan. | 6222 |  | Obituary- Heslet, Charles Charles Heslet Ends His Life With a Razor Charles Heslet, committed suicide early Monday morning by cutting his left jugular vein with a razor at the home of his sister, Mrs. Cordelia Swearing on Pearl street. The deed was committed while he lay in his bed. Mrs. Swearingen discovered his tragic ending about six o'clock Monday morning when she received no response to her calls to him to come to breakfast. Mr. Heslet was occupying the front room of the Swearingen home while Mrs. Swearingen and another brother, Joseph Heslet, slept in rooms on the second floor. Coroner H.L. Clark was notified and after viewing the body he announced no inquest was necessary. Marshal Vern Miller was probably the last person who saw Heslet alive. Heslet appeared on the streets about 1:30 Monday morning and talked for awhile as was his custom at times when he claimed he could not sleep. It was sometime after this hour that the deed was committed. Heslet attempted suicide about 15 years ago while living in Topeka, by slashing his throat from ear to ear, but the attempt was unsuccessful. The attempt cost him the loss of natural speech and he has been unable to talk above a whisper since. The first attempt was due to domestic trouble. The deed of Monday is also believed to have been caused by brooding over his wife's refusal to live with him, together with ill health that kept him in a perpetual state of melancholy. Taking his own life seemed to be a favorite topic with him in talking with people about town during periods of depression. About two months ago Heslet gave up his job as night watchman because he was afraid to rust himself with a gun. Charles was a native son of Rossville. He was born here March 18, 1873 and except for brief periods of migration to other points has always made his home here. At various periods of the past he has been marshal of the town and was considered one of the most courageous officers the city has employed. He was married to Miss Maud Fry in Topeka, June 20, 1899. Their union did not prove a congenial one and after a few years they separated although no divorce was secured by either party. Mrs. Heslet attended the funeral. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Basquin. The body was interred in the Rossville cemetery. The surviving relatives are his wife, three brothers, James H. of Washington, D.C., Joseph of Rossville and Jacob; five sisters, Mrs. M.S. McElvain, Mrs. Ella Hopkins, Mrs. Cordelia Swearingen, all of Rossville; Mrs. F.M. Cooper, of Eskridge, Mrs. Mina Wax of Maple Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews. | |

Heslet Word has been received in Topeka, of the death of James Hancock Heslet, 85, early-day Topeka and Rossville printer, in Silver Lake Spring, Md., Sunday. Services were held in Washington, D.C. Wednesday. Mr. Heslet the last surviving brother of John Heslet, Jake, Joe, and Charles Heslet and Mrs. Delia Heslet Swearingen and Mrs. Mina Wax, now deceased, but early day residents of Rossville. The old home place is now owned by the Reporter editor. He roomed with former Senator Arthur Capper when both were printers on the Topeka Capital in the late 80s. He also served as freeman on the Capital for a time. He married Miss Bertha L. Knowles of Philadelphia in 1894, and a year later they moved to Washington where he became a compositor in the government printing office. When he retired after 36 years, he was chief of the brach government printing office in the Library of Congress. Mr. Heslet was born in Zionsville, Ind., October 5, 1865, and three years later the family came to Shawnee county locating at Rossville. Survivors are his wife: two daughters, Mrs. E. Paul Smith of Bourbon, Ind., and Miss Mary R. Heslet of Washington; a sister, Mrs. Josephine McElvain of Denver, and a number of nieces and nephews, including Bert Heslet, Guy Startup, Della Startup and Walter Startup of Rossville. | |
| 6227 |  | Obituary- Heslet, John John Heslet Buried Sunday The body of John Heslet arrived from Evanston, Wyo., last Saturday morning and was taken to the home of his sisters, Mrs. B. Swearingen. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, the service conducted by Rev. McCulloch. Mr. Heslet passed away while at the post office in Evanston where he had been employed after a layoff from his railroad job. He went on duty Tuesday night, Dec. 21, at 10 o'clock. He was supposed to open the doors at 1 o'clock after which he was free to lie down until morning. On this evening the mail being late he sat down on his bed and death came suddenly. Not being able to get in the mail deliveryman was unable to deliver the mail until the following morning when a mail clerk arrived at 6:30 and Mr. Heslet was found on his bed. Beside his widow he is survived by three children, Bert, of Rossville; Mrs. Ed Ward and Mrs. Claude Yocum of Evanston, Wyo., four brothers, Jake, address unknown; James, Washington D.C.; Joseph and Charley of Rossville; five sisters, Mrs. McElvain, Mrs. Mina Wax, Mrs. B. Swearingen, of Rossville, Mrs. J.T. Hopkins, a half sister, Rossville; Mrs. Ruhana Cooper, Rocky Ford, Colorado. Heslet, was born in Boone county, Indiana, in July, 1863 and departed this life in a hospital at Council Grove, Kansas, Friday, November 23, 1935, at the age of 72. Death resulted from an injury received in a fall a year ago which rendered him helpless since the accident. He moved to Rossville in early childhood and this community had been his home practically all his life. Mr. Heslet was an honest and upright man. Always ready to render a good service to any in need. Kind hearted, gentle and good to his mother with whom he lived for years. During his last illness he was cared for by his sisters, Mrs. M.S. McElvain of this city and Mrs. Rhuhama Cooper of Eskridge, Kan. He often expressed a desire to go to sleep and not awaken, and his nurse who had special care of him during the last five weeks of his life said "he went as one going to sleep." Besides the two sisters mentioned, he leaves to mourn his going a sister, Mrs. Mina Wax of Topeka and two brothers, Jacob Heslet of Alameda, Calif., and James H. Heslet of Washington D.C. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. T.A. Nichols of the Eskridge Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Wright Horton. Music was furnished by Mrs. Arlene Reid, Mrs. Wright Horton, Mrs. Thelma Sigler and Mrs. Peter Navarre with Miss Edith Higginbotham as pianist. The pallbearers were L.B. | 6229 |  | Obituary- Heslet, Mary Ann Grandma Heslet Dead "Grandma" Heselet [sic Heslet] who had been suffering for some time from the disability of old age passed away on October 7th. She was an old settler in this community, having come to Rossville with her husband and family in 1868. Her husband died here in 1873. The funeral services was conducted by Rev. J.H. Lamb and Rev. Calvin Holman at the Christian church on Saturday afternoon at 2:30. A large and sympathetic gathering was present to pay the last tribute to their departed friend. The following is the obituary notice read at the church. Mary Ann Smith was born in Miami, Miami county, Ohio, June 7th, 1830. At the age of ten years she came with her parents to Indiana. She was married to Jacob Heslet, October 29, 1852, at Rushville, Indiana, and after 21 years of married life Mr. Heslet died. His death left a large family to be cared for and trained, but Mrs. Heslet did not shirk her duty, she proved herself a careful and loving mother. At the age of 80 years and 4 months she departed this life, leaving to mourn her death nine children, 26 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren, besides many friends. In her early life she gave her heart to Jesus and united with the United Brethren church, after her marriage she joined the Regular Baptist church--the church to which her husband belonged. The last few years of her life she spent as a member of the Christian church at Rossville. She was laid to rest in the Rossville cemetery. | |

Parr, Martin Whearty, Joe Shenk, Frank Page and C.E. Gresser. Nancy Arminda Osborn was born at Fairfield, Iowa, Jefferson County, April 8th, 1849. She passed away August 4, 1937 at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 27 days. She was united in marriage to John L. [sic T] Heslet, Nov. 27, 1873 at Rossville. He preceded her in death December 22, 1920. To this union was born five children, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving are two daughters, and one son: Bert Heslet, Rossville; Mrs. S.E. Ward, Green River, Wyoming; Mrs. G.L. Folsom, St. Marys. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends. Sally was born July 31st, 1940 to Raymond Rice and Mary Kinsey in Kansas City, MO. After moving to Kansas from Des Moines, IA, Sally worked food service and bartending for the Knights of Columbus in St. Marys, KS and the American Legion Post #31 in Rossville, KS. She was then employed by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas before running the Swirly Top restaurant in Rossville from 1993 to 2010. Sally was an avid reader and loved her stable of television shows. She was a loving and caring mother. Sally was best known for her role as a grandmother, commonly called Grammy by the entire family. She was a great listener and an even better talker. Sally will be missed greatly but her legacy will undoubtedly continue on through her impact on the community, friends, and family. Sally was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kingcade of Ukiah, CA. She is survived by her sister, Mary Patricia Sheridan of California, as well as her four children: Jesse; Tina of Drexel, MO; Tammy of Rossville, KS; and Tonya of Silver Lake, KS. Sally has many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was most proud of and loved very much. A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, April 10th at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Thad was born June 1, 1976 in Topeka and grew up in the Rossville community where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from Washburn University in Topeka. Thad was employed as a supervisor for Koch and Company in Topeka. He was a true family man and dearly loved his wife, children, granddaughter and all of his family. He was compassionate about the NFL and was a New England Patriot fan. NFL attire is encouraged for both the funeral and visitation. He was preceded in death by his grandparents William and Margaret Hill. On February 18, 2002 he was united in marriage to Amy Osborne in Topeka. She survives of the home. She was born March 15, 1928, on a farm near Emporia, the daughter of Samuel Giles and Sarah Agnes Dowling Dunn. Evelyn was raised in Emmett, Topeka and St. Marys. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in St. Marys. She moved to Kansas City and later to New Jersey where she worked in a bank and then for the V.A. Hospital. Evelyn transferred to the V.A. Hospital in Leavenworth and later to the Topeka V.A. Hospital where she was an agent cashier until she retired. She had lived in St. Marys since 1981. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys and led the rosary on Saturday evenings. While in New Jersey she had been the president of a V.F.W. Auxiliary. Evelyn was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 Auxiliary in Rossville where she had served as chaplain. She was a member of the St. Marys Housing Authority Board. She was married to Edgar Gilbert Simpkins; they later divorced. She married Conrad E. “Connie” Hesse on Nov. 8, 1981, in Topeka. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Thomas Simpkins, Topeka; a daughter, Eileen Wagner, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Sister Agnes Eileen, Sisters of Charity Motherhouse, Leavenworth and Pat Muller, St. Marys; grandchildren, Tara Wagner, Derrick, Jeremy and Catherine Simpkins. He was born February 10, 1929 at St. Marys the son of Conrad Francis and Edith Grace Brunin Hesse. Conrad graduated from St. Marys High School and served in the Army. Mr. Hesse had worked as an automaker in Kansas City; he also had worked for the alfalfa plant and had worked for the city of St. Marys for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Connie was also a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville. On November 8, 1981 he was united in marriage to Catherine Evelyn Dunn Simpkins in Topeka. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2008. Conrad was also preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers Bernard and Francis Hesse. Survivors include a step-son, Thomas Simpkins, Ft. Worth, TX; a step-daughter, Eileen Wagner, Springfield, MO; two sisters, Inez Norwood, Grand Junction, CO; and Stella Tyler, St. Marys; four step-grandchildren, Tara Wagner, Derick, Jeremy and Catherine Simpkins along with nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Mr. Hesse will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. She was born October 6, 1935, in Downs, the daughter of William H. and Hazel E. Getty. She was a 1953 graduate of Downs High School and attended the University of Kansas and Washburn University. She worked for several years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. She was a real estate broker with Hesse Real Estate, Rossville. She later moved to Topeka where she became the manager of the Peppertree Homeowners Association and “Mayor” of the Peppertree community. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Kansas Women’s Golf Association and participated in numerous golf tournaments around the state. She was a member of Countryside Methodist Church, HC Chapter of PEO, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Topeka Chapter of the American Cancer Society and was a volunteer for the Every Woman’s Resource Center. She married Burns Hesse on August 9, 1958, in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, William Scott Hesse, Topeka, and Gregory G. Hesse, Dallas, TX; two brothers, Steven Getty, Ottawa, and William Getty, Smith Center; three sisters, Patricia Steen, Ulysses, Elaine Casper, Pittsburg, and Helen Philipson, Sacramento, CA; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Hesse was cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, September 29 at the Countryside United Methodist Church. | 6242 |  | Obituary- Hesse, Frederick FREDERICK HESSE Frederick Hesse died at his home in St. Marys Saturday morning, June 19th, after a long illness. He was born in St. Marys, August 24, 1876, the son of Wm. and Rebecca Hesse. Most of his life was spent on a farm near St. Marys with the exception of seventeen years when he was with the Byrnes Elevator Co. He was married to Miss Mary Gutshall. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Helen Burke of Salina and Mr. Wm. Hesse of Rossville. Mrs. Hesse passed away in February, 1943. On March 4, 1944, he was married to Mrs. Nellie Chapman. He was a member of the St. Marys Congregational Church, Pottawatomie Lodge No. 52, A. F. and A. M., and Artha Chapter No. 238, 0. E. S. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Mrs. Nellie Hesse, his daughter, Mrs. Helen Burke and his son, Mr. Wm. Hesse; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Miss Lena Hesse of Ocean Park, California, Miss Clara Hesse of St. Marys and Mrs. Jessie Woodburn of Topeka. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p. m. at the Congregational church at St. Marys with burial in the Rossville cemetery. Pallbearers were Emmett Stambaugh, Guy Salisbury, Will Yocum, John Tufts, Arthur Holvorson and Harold Wells. | |
| 6243 |  | Obituary- Hesse, Frederick Burns 1 Frederick Burns Hesse Frederick Burns Hesse died on December 31, 2010, at the Midland Hospice House after an extended illness and stay at the Rossville Nursing Home. He was born on December 1, 1934, the son of William L. and Ruth Stanley Hesse in Rossville, KS. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1952 and attended Washburn University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Burns Hesse was a member of the U.S. Army, where he served in Alaska during the Cold War. Burns Hesse married Elizabeth Getty on August 9, 1958. Together they had two sons, Wm. Scott Hesse, Topeka, and Gregory G. Hesse, Dallas, Texas. Liz Hesse predeceased Burns on September 25, 2001. He married Barbara A. Hess on July 27, 2002. She sued him for divorce on November 4, 2010. Mr. Hesse was an entrepreneur. As a real estate broker, he sold residential and agricultural real estate, first with his own company, Hesse Real Estate in Rossville. In 1988, Burns and Liz Hesse moved from Rossville to Topeka, where Burns sold properly for a number of real estate companies, most recently Hawks Real Estate Professionals. The Topeka Area Association of Realtors bestowed upon Burns Hesse its prestigious Andy Anderson Award for sales in 2001. In 2002, RE/MAX, Associates of Topeka conferred upon him its "Agent of the Year" award. He was a mentor and partner to his daughter-in-law Anne Hesse in their real estate business. In addition to his real estate career, Burns, along with his "Brother Bill," owned and operated Hesse Lumber Co. in Rossville. They were also partners in a family farming operation. Mr. Hesse was the Chairman of the Board of Kross Development, Inc., which built, owned and operated Rossville Valley Manor and the Kross subdivision. Burns Hesse successfully wildcatted for oil. Burns was involved with numerous fraternal, civic, charitable and church organizations in both Rossville and Topeka, many times serving in a leadership role. Mr. Hesse was a member of the Arab Shrine Temple, the Scottish Rite; the Masonic Lodge; Arab Shrine Greeters; the Rossville American Legion, Topeka Area Association of Realtors and many other organizations. Burns Hesse is survived by Wm. Scott Hesse (Anne), their three children, Lucy, Sam, and Peter; as well as Gregory G. Hesse (Patricia), their three sons, Getty, Fritz and Hans; and his brother, William S. Hesse (Delores), of Rossville, KS. Family visitation will be held in the sanctuary of the Rossville United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A memorial celebration of Burns Hesses life and times will be held on January 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Rossville United Methodist Church, 411 Pearl Street, Rossville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rossville Community Foundation, the Rossville High School Scholarship Fund or the Rossville United Methodist Church. | |
