"Bob” Miller 1930-2016 Services & Gatherings Interment: Mount Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum Chapel 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS Robert Leland Miller Robert Leland Miller, 86, Topeka, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016. He was born January 20,1930, in Rossville, the son of Earl Ward and Dorotha Pearl (Rose) Miller. Bob was educated in the Topeka Public School system. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He began attending Washburn University night school at thirty-six years of age and nine years later he earned a BBA in business administration. He worked at the S.S. Kresge Dollar store as assistant manager and then worked thirty-six years for Stevenson Co., Inc., the last thirty-four years before retiring he served as Secretary-Treasurer. Bob was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church. He formerly was a member of and a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Euclid Methodist Church, a past member of the board of directors of the Midwest Roofing Contractors’ Association, a past-president of the Topeka Materialmen’s Association, a member of Capital Post # 1 of the American Legion, a member of Shawnee Country Club for more than 34 years and a former member of both the Topeka Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; and Arab Shriners where he was a member of the Legion of Honor and Golfers Unit. Surviving are three children: Steven L. Miller (Janet) of Big Horn, WY, Carolyn Henderson (Jaime) of Topeka, and John R. Miller (GiGi) of Topeka; siblings: Richard E. Miller (Nancy) of Topeka, Alice Kay Laufenberg (Dick) of Bellevue, NE and Ralph E. Miller (Pam) of Topeka; grandchildren: Kristi Henderson (Christian Williams) of Lawrence, Kerri Futrell (Ryan) of Mission, Joshua Miller of Topeka, Jeremiah Miller of Mayetta, Jessie Miller of Denver, Hope Winget of Charlotte, NC, and Katie Henderson of Topeka; son-in-law: Russell Winget of Charlotte, NC; and his love of sixteen years: Debby Hunt of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Connie J. Miller-Winget on February 13, 2012; and sisters: Ann Miles and Delores Pagel. | 8202 |  | Obituary- Miller, Robert L. 2 Robert Miller February 4, 1945 - January 27, 2014 Robert Miller, 88, of Topeka, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014, after battling a long illness, Robert was born on February 4; 1945, in Wamego KS, the son of Harold and Martha (Smith) Miller. He grew up and went to public schools in Wamego graduating from Wamego High School. He met Linda Leonard and they were married in 1982 in Wamego and spent over thirty-two wonderful years together. Robert worked as a plumber for his entire working career. He first worked for Modern Plumbing in Wamego and then for KPL- Westar. His other interests included hunting and fishing, working on the farm, and playing with his grandchildren and other neighborhood children. He was a member of St, Luke’s Episcopal Church and the NRA, Robert is survived by his wife, Linda; his mother, Martha Miller, Wamego KS; his children, Jeff (Jane) Milter, Topeka KS, Kim O’Hara, Wichita KS, Chris Miller, Ft. Lauderdale FL, Ginger Bohn, Topeka KS, Roxanne Hulse, Exeter NE; his sister, Beverly Beach, Arlington TX; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, He is preceded in death by his father; a brother, Gary; and a grandchild, Quinlynn. Robert Norman Miller Tacoma, Wash. - Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Buckley-King Mortuary here for Robert Norman Miller, 65, Tacoma, Wash., formerly of Delia. He died Tuesday, Sept. 25, at a Tacoma hospital. Mr. Miller was a laborer in a cement factory at Tacoma. He was born Sept. 26, 1919, at Delia, the son of William Paul and Florence M. Stewart Miller. He lived in Tacoma since 1975. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Marzine Finch, Topeka, and Mrs. Rita L. Wessel, Tempe, Ariz. Robert was born November 21, 1932, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Peter and Alice (Barrett) Miller. Robert proudly served in the United States Army. Robert retired from General Printing and Paper in 1991 after 30 plus years of employment. He married Joyce (Wray) Miller and they had 4 children; Susan (Bob) Wells, Ellen (Jim) Bryndle, Robert P. (Renee) Miller Jr., and Amy (Tim) Grier. Robert was preceded in death by Joyce in 1990 and Ellen in 2009. Robert then married Helen (Spears) Miller in 1992; she had three children. He will be dearly missed by all of his family including his grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Robert and Helen enjoyed spending time at their homes in Arizona and Topeka. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Topeka Cemetery following services. Miller, 82, Holton, who died early Friday in an Onaga hospital where he had been a patient about four weeks. He was born Oct. 12, 1890, at Delia and spent most of his life in the Delia community. He lived in the Holton community the past 10 years. He was a mail carrier in the Delia community 37 years before he retired in 1960. He was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church at Holton. He was married to Ada McKeever Nov. 24, 1937. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Trimble, Point Lookout, Mo., and Sharon Miller, Fort Sill, Okla. | 8208 |  | Obituary- Miller, Sharon 1 Sharon Lee Miller HOLTON — Military graveside ser-vices will be conducted by the funeral support team from Fort Leavenworth at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Holton Cemetery for Sharon Lee Miller, 52, Hollister, Mo., formerly of Holton, who died Saturday, April 10, 1993, at her home. Miss Miller served 27 1/2 years in the Army Special Services Corps as a dietician. She was discharged in October 1989 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. Her foreign duty tours included Japan, Germany and Panama. After she was discharged she lived in Columbus, Ga., until she moved to Hollister to live with a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Herbert Trimble. She was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Holton, the daughter of Roy and Ada McKeever Miller. She attended Delia public schools and was graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan. Miss Miller was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia, American Dietetic Association and Retired Army Officers Association. Survivors include a sister, Maxine Trimble, at home. Earlier services will be at 7 p.m. today at Whelchel Funeral Chapel in Branson, Mo. Visitation will follow services in Branson. Officiating will be Dr. Wayne Adcock, Chaplain of the College of the Ozarks. Sharon Miller died Saturday, April 10, 1993 at her sister's home. She was born 1940 in Holton, the daughter of Roy and Ada McKeever Miller. She attended public schools in Delia and graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan. After graduation she joined the Special Services Corp of the United States Army as a dietitian. She served in the U.S. Army for 27-1/2 years, and was discharged in October of 1989 with the rank of Lt. Col. Her tours of foreign duty included Japan, Germany, and Panama. After leaving the Army she made her home in Columbus, Ga., until she moved to Hollister to live with her sister. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church, the American Dietetic Association and the Retired Army officers association. Survivors include her sister, Maxine Trimble, Hollister, Mo.; an aunt, Mrs. Dorothy Davis, Goff; and several cousins. Graveside military services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 14 at the Holton Cemetery, Holton. Memorials may be made to Ozark Mountain Hospice, 118 N. 3rd, Branson, Mo. 65616. | 8210 |  | Obituary- Miller, Teresa C. Miller Theresa [sic- Teresa] C. Miller, 90, Rossville, passed away Saturday June 11, 2022, at The University of Kansas St. Francis Campus in Topeka. Teresa was born March 21, 1932, at Rossville, the daughter of Oscar H. and Charlotte Hurla Bixby. She graduated from Rossville High School with the class of 1950. Teresa was a homemaker and caregiver to her son Timothy. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and the women’s group at the church. She had been a 4-H leader many years and was a member of the EHU. On Oct. 21, 1950, Teresa was united in marriage to Lloyd L. Miller in Topeka. He preceded her death on Dec. 24, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, Timothy, on Feb. 3, 2018; a grandson, Bruce Reynolds, on July 22, 2020; a great-grandson, Monte Bleakley, in 2015; and a sister, Betty Cummings, on Jan. 13, 2019. Survivors include three daughters, Terrie Malcolm, Callaway, Neb., Dora (Robert) Reynolds, Delia, and Debe Green, Hiwasse, Ark.; two sisters, Genevieve Jennsen and Patricia Bixby, both of Rossville; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Miller on December 24, 2008, and a great-nephew, Monte Bleakley. Survivors include his mother, Teresa Miller of the home; three sisters, Terri Myers Malcom, Callaway, NE., Dora (Robert) Reynolds, Delia, and Debe (Rusty) Greene, Topeka/Hiwasse, AR; aunts, Ivaleu Miller, Delia, Patricia Bixby, and Genevieve Jenssen both of Rossville and Betty Cummings, St. Marys; 9 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. | 8213 |  | Obituary- Milligan, Jack JACK MILLIGAN Jack Milligan, aged 74, died Saturday forenoon at the Henry McGuire home. Mr. Milligan had spent the past 30 or 35 years, off and on, living along the Kaw River between Cross Creek and the vicinity of Maple Hill trapping and fishing. At the time of his death he had been living in a tent near the mouth of Cross Creek or Dr. Miller’s land. Early last week he fell and badly bruised his face and evidently in so weakened condition his foot landed in his wood stove and was badly burned. Exposure brought on pneumonia. Some local men chopping wood nearby finally induced him to come to town and he was brought to the McGuire home last Thursday. Mr. Milligan was close mouthed about his living relatives, if any, and about his personal affairs. He had been a roamer all his life, working at times in the South, in the mountain states and on the west coast The body was taken in charge by the county authorities and he was buried at Topeka Tuesday of this week. | |

She was born May 17, 1913, in Portland, Ore., the daughter of John R. and Marjorie P. MacArthur Minis. Miss Minis had been a resident of Manhattan since 1928. For many years she worked for Perry Packing Company in old downtown Manhattan. In the 1940s, she worked at Margaret's Flowers in both Aggieville and downtown Manhattan. From 1959 until 1966, she worked for Manhattan Floral Company. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Survivors include one brother, Russell G. Minnis, Rossville, and many other relatives. She was born April 1, 1956, at Spokane, WA, the daughter of John and Carol Huxtable Lentis. She was raised in Omaha, NE and graduated from Omaha High School. Gloria graduated from the University of Nebraska in Omaha with a degree in education. Gloria was a teacher at Primrose, NE then in the Junction City and Ft. Riley areas. She taught in Manhattan and at Shiner Elementary and Scott Magnet School in Topeka. Gloria was a para-professional at Silver Lake and was currently the activities coordinator at Rossville Health and Rehab Center in Rossville. Gloria married Raymond R. Minnis in Ohio on April 23, 1983. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2021. Survivors include her son, Russell Minnis, Rossville; her father, John Lentis (Darleen) in Florida; siblings, John Lentis, Janet Franks, Susan Thurman, Andrew Lentis and Pam Sorgen. Mrs. Minnis chose cremation. A Celebration of Life is pending. | |

Minnis, 58, Omaha, Nebr., who died Thursday, June 4, 1981, at an Omaha hospital. She had leukemia. She was born December 27, 1922, at Hays, the daughter of Edward and Ethelyn Emert Ferguson. She grew up in the Rossville community. In 1943, she moved to King City, Nebr. Henrietta married Russell D. Minnis, D.V.M., on April 9, 1944, in Manhattan and the Couple lived in Chicago, Ill., until 1946. From 1946 to 1949, they lived in Odessa, Mo.; from 1949 to 1950, they lived in Centralia, Mo.; from 1951 to 1963, they lived in King City, Mo.: from 1963 to 1965, they lived in Red Oak, la.; and in 1965, they moved to Omaha, Nebr., where they lived at the time of her death. Dr. Minnis survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Roberta Bennett, Wichita; two sons, Raymond R. Minnis, Ralston, Nebr., and Richard A. Minnis, Omaha, Nebr.; and three grandsons. The family met with friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Verschelden Funeral Home. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Elmer Lynde, Bennie Dick Jr.-, Thorton McClain, Larry McClain, James Rezac, and Art Campbell, all of Rossville. He was born the son of Russell and Henrietta Ferguson Minnis on September 25, 1949, at Odesa, MO. Raymond grew up in Missouri and Nebraska; he served in the United States Air Force. Raymond had worked in Food Services For USD No. 475 at Junction City. He moved to Rossville in 2000. Raymond was married to Gloria Lentis in Omaha, NE., on April 23, 1983. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son, Russell Minnis, Rossville; his sister, Roberta Bennett, Wichita; his brother, Rick Minnis, Omaha. He was born April 25,1921, in Ablion, Ida., the son of John R. and Majoria Bowers McArthur Minis. He had lived in Rossville for several years. He and his family moved to Manhattan from Idaho when he was very young. He was graduated from Manhattan High School and from Kansas State College Division of Veterinary Medicine. He entered the Army and served as a meat inspector in Chicago during World War 2. He was a veterinarian and specialized in large animals until 1965, when he became a federal meat inspector for the USDA. He retired in 1987. He had lived in Chicago, Ill., Odesa, Mo., Centralia, Mo., King City, Mo., Red Oak, la., and then in Omaha until the late 1980s. He served on the Rossville City Council for several years. He attended the Presbyterian Church and was a past member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Missouri Veterinary Association. On April 9,1944, he was married to Henrietta Ferguson in Manhattan. She died June 4,1981. He married Winifred McClain April 1, 1989, at Rossville. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Roberta I. Bennett, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Vickie S. McClain, Overland Park; two sons, Raymond R. Minnis, Junction City, and Richard A. Minnis, Omaha, Neb.; a stepson, Larry M. McClain, Rossville; and six grandchildren. A family visitation will be held from 6:30 until 7:30 at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys on Tuesday (this evening). His service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He served as a meat inspector during World War II in Chicago. He was a veterinarian and a federal meat inspector for the USDA. | 8220 |  | Obituary- Minnis, Winifred 1 Winifred Vera McClain Minnis ROSSVILLE- Mrs. Winifred Vera McClain Minnis, 93, died at her home on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. She was born January 16,1919 at St. Marys, the daughter of Clarence S. and Florentine Stockman Emert. The Emert family lived in the St. Marys area until 1932 when they moved to Rossville. Winifred received her BS and teaching certification from St. Marys College in Leavenworth and her business degree from Washburn University. She taught one year at Lillis High School and six years as a commerce teacher for the High School at St. Marys. She was married to Thornton McClain August 21, 1947 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. She and her husband farmed until retiring in 1980. Thornton died August 21,1987. She was active in her church and was a member of the Altar Society for many years. She joined the Rossville Literary and Music Club in 1947. Winifred belonged to the Ladies of the Moose in Topeka. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and restoring rental property. On April 1, 1989 Winifred married Russell Minnis. They were married eight years until Russell's death on May 9,1997. Winifred received her Bachelor of Science Degree and teaching certification from St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth and her business degree from Washburn University. She taught one year at Lillis High School and six years as a commerce teacher for the high school at St. Marys. She was married to Thornton McClain. Aug. 21,1947, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville. She and her husband farmed until retiring in 1980. Thornton died Aug. 21, 1987. She was active in her church and was a member of the Altar Society for many years. She joined the Rossville Literary and Music Club in 1947. Winifred belonged to the Ladies of the Moose in Topeka. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and restoring rental property. On April 1, 1989, Winifred married Russell Minnis. They were married eight years until Russell’s death on May 9, 1997. He was born, January 5, 1915 on Soldier Creek east of Delia, the son of William Harvey and Anna Brown Mitchell. He attended Stach School east of Delia. Mr. Mitchell moved to Oxnard, California in 1936 and worked on a ranch. He moved back to Kansas to the Solider Creek area near Delia in the fall of 1939. He was a farmer most of his life. In 1972 he went to work for the Jackson County Road Department as a road grader operator. He also had been a maintainer operator for St. Marys Township and Harrison Township until his retirement. For 15 years he always took at least two months in the summer to go on wheat harvest, traveling from Texas to Montana with his son and his family, doing so until the harvest of 1993. He married Freda Corinne Cole in 1937 at Ventura, California. She died September 28, 1998. Bun is survived by one son, Jim and his wife Judy Mitchell, Soldier, and grandsons, Bryan Mitchell, Ulysses, KS. Mitchell, 63, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 surrounded by his family in Topeka. Mitchell was serving as the chairman of the PBPN Gaming Commission at the time of his death and had been chairing the Gaming Commission off and on since 1997. Prior to that, he had been elected to serve on the Tribal Council as chairman, vice chairman, and treasurer for a total of 18 years of elected service. Academically he possessed a bachelor’s degree in political science from Washburn University and a master’s degree in history from Baker University. Liana Onnen, PBPN Tribal Council chairperson, said: “He was a good man and a well respected member of the community. He understood the importance of preserving the culture, traditions and history of the Prairie Band Potawatomi people in a deeply profound way. He also took an active role in that preservation through not only his writings, but the way he lived his life. Gary served his people and his community through elected office for many years and his passing is a great loss for our people and for all the lives he touched. Now known as the Prairie Band Casino & Resort (formerly Harrah’s Prairie Band Casino), Mitchell was active in all phases of bringing gaming to the PBPN and overseeing the casinos woodlands design. In addition, Mitchell was a life-long reservation resident and dedicated to ensuring that his peoples traditions and language were maintained. He was a Potawatomi speaker and often gave invocations at powwows and other events. He was the tribe’s historian and wrote many historical narratives that appeared in books and magazines. Among his other accomplishments was being the founder of the Potawatomi News, the Nation’s newspaper that has been circulated to the tribal membership since 2000. He was born February 8, 1951 in Holton, KS the son of Andrew Mitchell, Sr. and Alberta Marie Nagmo. Gary graduated from Mayetta High School in 1969. He also graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and from Baker University with a Masters in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in History. Gary served 28 years for the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. He was past Treasurer, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Tribal Council. He currently was Chairman of Tribal Gaming Commission. He was Tribal Historian, and spoke the Potawatomi language that he learned from his mother. He was a writer of many stories; including his published book “Stories of the Potawatomi”. Gary loved reading, writing, gardening, friends, family, coaching “Big Red Machine” and watching KU Basketball. Gary was a member of Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and Drum Religion. He was a Drum Chief. He married Voncile Potts on April 20, 1971 in Hiawatha, KS. She survives of the home.
