    Melba Jo Raine
    July 11, 1939 — December 11, 2020
    Maple Hill—Melba Jo Raine, 81, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

    She was born July 11, 1939, in Maple Hill, the daughter of T. Vernon and Ruby E. Maes Adams. Melba Jo grew up in Maple Hill and graduated from Maple Hill High School.

    Melba Jo had worked as a designer at Dot’s Downtown Floral in Topeka. She spent many hours creating crafts. She enjoyed decorating cakes. Melba Jo was a member of the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church and had served as the church pianist and the choir director. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Maple Hill for many years. Melba Jo loved her family; whenever one of the grandchildren had an activity, she was sure to be there.

    Melba Jo Adams and Lyle Dean Raine were united in marriage in 1958 in Maple Hill. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, John Adams.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Kevin Raine, Topeka; three daughters. Tammy (Rich) Arnold, Salina, Tari (Mark) Metzler, Topeka, and Staci (Ron) Guinn, Weston, MO; two brothers, Dean (Theresa) Adams, Maple Hill and Paul Adams, Topeka; four sisters, Jean (Dan) Pipkins, Wiggins, Mississippi, Eula Schneider (Dale), Topeka, Beulah (Jerry) Grant, Hoyt, and Gayle (Steve) Schultz, Topeka; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

    Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at the Maple Hill Congregational Church in Maple Hill. Inurnment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church or the American Diabetes Association and sent to Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
