    Mary Maude Weeks
    Mary Maude Weeks, 80, died Tuesday, April 29,1997, at a nursing home in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born April 23, 1917, in Eskridge, the daughter of Oscar W. and Mary Ladan Appenfeller. She had lived in the Dover community many years before moving to Virginia Beach, VA in January 1994.

    She grew up in the Eskridge community, and was graduated from Eskridge High School in 1935. She attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She taught in the Eskridge and Paxico communities. She was a telephone operator in Rossville for several years, and had worked for the State of Kansas Department of Revenue in the Taxation Division for many years, retiring in 1983. She had lived in Paxico, St. Marys and Rossville before moving to Dover in 1951. She was a member of the Dover Federated Church, Dover, and the Eastern Star Clarice Chapter No. 390, Dover, for over 50 years.

    She was married to Seth A. Weeks on April 25, 1939, at Topeka. He died January 27,1990.

    Surviving her are a son, Bob Mercer, Lincolnton, GA; a daughter, Uvonna Daniels, Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Ernestine Shumate, Eskridge; a brother, Dr. William Appenfeller, Osawatomie; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, at the Federated Church in Dover. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Dover Federated Church, or to Alzheimer’s Disease Association, Topeka Chapter, and sent in care of the Funeral Home.

    Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.
