    Margaret Elizabeth Porter
    ST. MARYS — Margaret Elizabeth Cole Porter, 83, St. Marys, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.

    She was born July 26, 1913, at Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Edith Spalding Cole. She was reared at Onawa, Iowa, and lived there until she moved to the Rossville and St. Marys areas in 1952.

    Mrs. Porter was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church and she was a volunteer at St. Marys Manor.

    She married Charles Otis Porter on Dec. 22, 1930, at LeMar, Iowa. He died Oct. 7, 1960. A son, Charles Otis Jr., died in 1951.

    Survivors include two sons, Marion A. Porter, Maple Hill, and Kenneth R. Porter, in Massachusetts; four daughters, Shirley May Puskas, Salem, III., Sally Ann Stum, Rossville, Katherine Kay Sisson, New Memphis, III., and Charlene Ann Porter, St. Marys; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Onawa, Iowa, Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the Margaret Porter Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral home.

    Rossville and St. Marys areas in 1952.

    She married Charles Otis Porter on December 22, 1930, at LeMar, la. He died October 7, 1960. A son, Charles Otis, Jr., died in 1951.

    Survivors include two sons, Marion A. Porter, Maple Hill, and Kenneth R. Porter in Massachusetts; four daughters, Shirley May Puskas, Salem, III., Sally Ann Stum, Rossville, Katherine Kay Sisson, New Memphis, Ill., and Charlene Ann Porter, St. Marys; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

    Relatives and friends met from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Her service was at 10:00 Friday morning at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Onawa, la. Cemetery at 10:00 Saturday morning.
