    GRISWOLD’S FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY
    A reunion and dinner was sponsored by the family of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Griswold, Tuesday, December 28th, in the rose room of the Hotel Jayhawk in Topeka, in honor of the Golden Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Griswold. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Griswold, of Rossville; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie H. Griswold and Betty Jean of Shawnee, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin B. Griswold, Dale, Mary and Don, of Newton, Kan; Mr. and Mrs. George E. Ryder of Independence, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lyon, Bruce, Duane and Richard, of Newton, Kansas.

    The party was continued at Rossville until Wednesday, when they dispersed to their various homes.

    OBSERVE 60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

    Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Griswold Sunday, December 28, were Mr. and Mrs. Les lie H. Griswold and Betty Jean, of Shawnee, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin B. Griswold and Don of Newton, Kansas, Dr. and Mrs. Dale Griswold of Newton, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lyon, Bruce, Duane, and Richard of Newton, Kansas.

    The family gathering was in celebration of the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Griswold, who were married sixty years ago here in Rossville.

    Clarissa Leona Griswold was born February 15, 1907, in Rossville, Kansas, and died July 16, 1955, at (he age of 48 years, 5 months and 1 day, a victim of an automobile accident near Ponca City, Oklahoma.

    She was reared in Rossville where she received her early education, graduating from the Rossville high school in 1925.

    She was a graduate of New England conservatory of music in Boston Mass., and received her masters degree in music education from the University of Kansas at Lawrence. She taught music several years in the public schools and the Junior College at Parsons, Kansas. She was a member of the Methodist Church and took an active part in church work from childhood.



    She was married to Rev. George E. Ryder August 19, 1946. To this union one daughter was born, Marilyn Claire October 24, 1949.

    Surviving are her husband and daughter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Griswold of Rossville, Kansas; two brothers, Leslie H. Griswold of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Sherwin B Griswold of Newton, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Wayne Lyon of Newton Kansas.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 19, at 2 pm in the Rossville Methodist Church Rev. Calvin L. Moore, substituting for Rev. Ryder at Oakhurst Methodist Church officiating, assisted by Dr. James Brett Kenna, district superintendent of the Kansas City district. Pianist was Mrs. Irene Campbell and soloist was Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey.

    Active Pallbearers: Clyde Rogers. Howard Stiles, Homer Reid, Ralph Page, Joe Gresser, and Roy Wilt. Honorary Pallbearers: Ralph Ramsey Edgar Overbey, Richard Robinson Vent Drake, Fred Engleman and Fred Collins.

    Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery. Funeral directors were Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hurley of Rossville Kansas.

    THURSDAY, JULY 21, 1955
    Mrs. Clarissa Leona Ryder
    Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Ryder, 48, Kansas City, who was killed Saturday afternoon in a crash near Ponca City, Oklahoma, were held at 2 pm Tuesday in the Rossville Methodist church. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery.

    Mrs. Ryder’s husband, the Rev. George B. Ryder, 51, of Oakhurst Methodist church in Kansas City, was injured critically, and their 5-year-old daughter, Marilly, was injured slightly. Three other persons were killed in the crash.

    Mrs. Ryder was born February 15, 1907, at Rossville. She is survived by her husband; her daughter; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Griswold of Rossville; two brothers, Leslie H. Griswold, Shawnee, Okla., and Sherwin B. Griswold, Newton; and a sister, Mrs. Wayne Lyon, Newton.

    Pallbearers at the funeral were Clyde Rogers, Ralph Page, Howard Stiles, Homer Reid, Joe Gresser, and Roy Wilt. Rev. Calvin Moore was in charge of the service, Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Irene Campbell. Hurley funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
