    Mr. and Mrs. John Reid celebrated their forty-ninth wedding anniversary Sunday. Guests for dinner were Mr. and Mrs. William Kerr and son Glenn, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Reid. A lovely bouquet of pink carnations was received from their daughter, Mrs. T.C. Bacon of Twin Falls, Idaho.

    MRS. AMANDA REID
    Amanda James was born in Harmony, Ind., July 19, 1859 and passed away at her home in Rossville, Sat. November 7, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 19 days. She was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Stoker James and came to Kansas with her parents, in 1866 and has re¬sided in this community since that time.

    Until moving to town about eight years ago, she and her husband had resided on the home farm east of Rossville for forty-four years.

    She was married to John W. Reid, March 10, 1880. To this union four children were born, an infant son having preceded her in death. Surviving her are her husband, John Reid, two daughters, Mrs. Alice Bacon, Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Ethel Kerr, Rossville, Kansas and one son Homer, S. Reid of Rossville, seven grand children, two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Kassebaum, Rossville, Mrs. Ed Kassebaum. Topeka; four brothers, Chas. James, San Francisco, Cal., Harry James, Pasadena, Cal., John James, Topeka and Sherman James, Rossville. She had long been a member and worker in the Presbyterian church until failing health prevented further activities in the work. She was also a member of the Security benefit association.

    Services were conducted by Dr. H. L. Nelson and the music by the ladies quartette composed of Mesdames Hesse, Wallerstedt, Witter and Navarre, who sang “The City Foursquare” and “Lead Kindly Light,” accompanied by Miss Edith Higginbotham. Interment was in Rossville cemetery. John Rouse, F. P. McCollough, J. C. Bradley, Morris Bond E. G. Griswold and Walter Cless acted as pallbearers.

    The following out-of-town relatives and friends were in Rossville, Tuesday, to attend the funeral of Mrs. John Reid: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Thomas, Mrs. Gladys Reaser, C. M. McPherson, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cless, Mr. and Mrs. James Crater, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. James, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kassebaum, Miss Beatrice Kassebaum, Miss Margaret Bond, Mrs. Eunice Jamieson, Mrs. Nadine Gilbert, J. E. Taylor, of Topeka; and Mrs. Harley McCoid of Silver Lake.

    Glen Kerr, Kansas State student, came home Saturday and remained over Tuesday for the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. John Reid.

    We desire to express to our many friends and neighbors our sincere gratitude for their expressions of sympathy and many kindnesses shown during the long illness and death of our loving wife and mother and especially to the two women, Mrs. Steffee and Mrs. Ellis who with untiring devotion cared for her through the several years of her suffering. Also for the many beautiful floral offerings.

    Mrs. William Butters of Topeka, was in Rossville, Tuesday, to attend the funeral of Mrs. John Reid and also was a guest of the L.L. & M.C. at the home of Mrs. Peter Navarre.

    Glen VanOrsdol and his mother, Mrs. William VanOrsdol, drove out from Topeka, Tuesday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs. John Reid and call on her sister, Mrs. Margaret Witter.
