    Bertha Martinek

    Bertha J. Martinek, 98, Rossville, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Rossville Valley Manor.

    She was born November 2, 1907, in Delia, the daughter of Adolph and Mary Penaz Macha.

    She had lived in the Delia community all of her life until she moved to Rossville in March of 1990. She grew up in the Delia community and was graduated from Delia High School. She was the first registered born girl in the town of Delia. She worked for her father and brother in the Macha Hardware Store in Delia for many years.

    She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and later the Rossville Presbyterian Church.

    She married Ray Martinek on June 22, 1948, at Delia. He died October 23, 1951. An infant daughter also died. Two brothers, Richard Macha and Marvin Macha also died.

    Survivors are a brother, Edward A. Macha, Rossville, and several nephews and nieces.

    Her service was Friday at 10 a.m. at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. A family visitation was held from 6:30 to 7:30 Thursday at Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Senior Center and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, 419 Main Street, Rossville, KS 66533.

    Bertha Martinek

    ROSSVILLE --- Bertha J. Martinek, 95, Rossville, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at a Rossville nursing home.

    Mrs. Martinek had worked for many years for her father and brother in the MACHA Hardware Store in Delia.

    She was born Nov. 2, 1907, to Adolph and Mary Penaz Macha, the first registered born girl in Delia. She graduated from Delia High School and lived her entire life in Delia until moving to Rossville in 1990.

    Mrs. Martinek was a member of Delia Presbyterian Church and later the Rossville Presbyterian Church.

    She married Ray Martinek on June 22, 1948, in Delia. He died Oct. 23, 1951. Mrs. Martinek also was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

    Survivors include a brother, Edward A. Macha, Rossville.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. Mrs. Martinek will lie in state at the Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville after 2 p.m. Thursday, where visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Senior Center and sent in care of the funeral chapel, 419 Main, Rossville, 66533.

    Birthday Luncheon Surprise for Bertha Martinek

    Mrs. Bertha Martinek, Delia, was surprised Thursday, November 2, with a birthday luncheon served in her honor. The noon event was planned and hosted by Mrs. Mary Macha, Delia, Mrs. Sandy Hoferer and Becky, St. Marys, and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hoover, St. Joseph, Mo. Other guests attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Dick Macha, Council Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Martinek and Mrs. Lydia Stach, Rossville; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kovar, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Macha, Michelle and Doug, Mrs. Bemadine Teske, Mrs. Eudora McQueen, Mrs. Pauline Miller, Mrs. Eleanor Thompson and Mrs. Letha Olejnik, all of Delia.

    Following the noon meal, the honored birthday guest enjoyed opening the many gifts presented to her and visiting with her friends.
