    Martin-Vande Velde
One of the prettiest weddings that has ever taken place in Rossville was on July 29th, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic church before an altar banked with white Gladioli, when Miss Bonnie Ruth Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Martin became the bride of Raymond Charles Vande Velde, of Kansas City. The Rev. Fr. John Berens read the double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She was lovely in her gown of bridal satin and chantilly lace made with a fitted bodice coming to a point in front, with long fitted sleeves and sweetheart neckline. The softly gathered skirt extended into a long aisle wide train. Her only jewelry was a 3 strand of pearls, a gift from the groom. Her finger-tip length veil of bridal illusion fell from a coronet of seed pearls. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink carnations.

Little Janice Johnson, cousin of the bride was flower girl. She wore a yellow silk dress and carried a bouquet of roses.

Charles Gaignot of Kansas City, cousin of the groom was the ring bearer and carried the rings on a pillow made of white satin.

Miss Nona Martin, sister of the bride was matron of honor and wore a gown of pink taffeta and carried a Colonial bouquet of white carnations.

The bridesmaids were Miss Betty Jacobson, Miss Mary Kay Seibert and Mrs. John Martin Jr., and all wore light blue taffeta gowns and carried white prayer books with a red rose and white streamers.

Mr. Robert Martin, brother of the bride, was best man. He and the groom wore light colored suits.

The ushers were Charles Martin, Barnard Ozmer, and John Martin Jr.

Mrs. John Martin Sr., chose navy blue taffeta for her daughters wedding with black accessories. Mrs. VandeVelde wore a dress of light green silk with black accessories. Both wore corsages of pink carnations.

Miss Pauline Martin, cousin of the bride took charge of the guest book. She wore a gown of light green taffeta, with a head dress of pink flowers and she also wore a corsage of white carnations.

The wedding music was furnished by Mrs. Wm. Hill at the organ and Ray Martin as soloist.

A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride. The table was decorated with a beautiful wedding cake with candles on each side. Mrs. John Martin Jr. of Wichita cut the cake and Miss Mary Martin, Nona Martin and Pauline Martin presided at the punch bowl.

The young couple left immediately after the reception for a short wedding trip to Colorado, and on their return will make their home at 61 So. 17th St. Kansas City, Kansas.

The groom is employed at the General Motors Co.

The bride has been with the Bell Telephone Co., in Topeka and Ottawa for the past year.

Out-of-town guests at the Martin-VandeVelde wedding were: Joe DeVader, Regina DeVader, Margaret DeVader, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond VandeVelde Sr., and family, Mr. and Mrs. Augie VandeVelde and family, Mildred Mulford and Joe, Ed VandeVelde, Mrs. Charles DeVader Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles R.
