    Mrs. Phyllis M. Vega
    MAYETTA —Mrs. Phyllis Marie Vega, 44, Mayetta, died Monday at a Topeka hospital where she had been one day. No autopsy was scheduled.

    She was born April 11,1936, at Mayetta, the daughter of Charles and Anna Cook Nozhackum, and lived in the Mayetta community most of her life.

    Mrs. Vega was a registered nurse and worked the past eight years for the Indian Health Center, Holton. She attended St. Mary College at Leavenworth and completed her training at Providence Hospital, Kansas City.

    She was a member of the Potawatomi Band Indian Tribe.

    Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Vega, Mayetta; two sons, Paul Vega, Mayetta, and Gilbert Vega, with the U.S. Army in Maryland; four sisters, Mrs. Freda Wabaunsee, Delia, Mrs. Marcella Hernandez, Seneca, Mrs. Maxine Ramirez, Mayetta, and Mrs. Charlene Padilla, Sabetha; a brother, Chris Puckee, Las Vegas; and a grandson.

    Funeral drum service will be Wednesday evening at the home of the former Charles Nozhackum, west of Mayetta. Burial will be at Dance Ground Cemetery on the Potawatomi Reservation. Mercer Funeral Home, Holton, is in charge of arrangements.
