    Dorothy Mary Reser Vail
    Dorothy Mary Reser Vail, 95, Topeka, died Tuesday, Feb 17, 2004, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Mrs. Vail was a staff nurse at Security Benefit Hospital from 1933 to 1940 and at St. Francis Hospital from 1956 to 1982. She and her twin brother Clarence were born Aug. 16, 1908, in St. Marys, to John Henry Reser and Helen Agnes “Nellie” McDonnell. She graduated from St. Marys Academy and attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1931. She married Lester Isaac Vail on March 7, 1940, in Topeka. He died in March 2001. Dorothy and Lester moved to Richland in 1940 and then to Topeka in 1967. Mrs. Vail was a member of St. Matthew parish. She had been a resident at Presbyterian Manor since 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bernard, Clarence, Donald, Eugene and John Henry; and sister, Veronica. Survivors include a sister, Clara Marie Sterkel, Denver; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lorene and John Sabo, Sedalia, Colo., Loretta and John Ralston, Kansas City, Mo., Rosemary and Duane Henson, Berryton, and Roberta and Art Zeller, Littleton, Colo.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A visitation will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Matthew Catholic Church. A parish rosary recited at 7:5 p.m. will be followed by a prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will be in Topeka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center, 701 E. Hampton Ave., Suite 420, Englewood, Colo., 80110, or to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 S.E. Virginia, Topeka, 66605. Dorothy led a life marked by humble service. Her enduring faith and warm spirit will be long remembered by her family and friends. Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
