    Mr. Homer Colter and Miss Velma Startup were married, Monday, at Marysville, Mo. The only attendants were Mr. and Mrs. O. McAnery, a cousin of the groom.

    The bride was tastefully dressed in navy blue silk crepe, trimmed with lace. She is the daughter of Mrs. Albert Besta of Rossville. The groom is the son of Mrs. O.H. Harden of this city.

    After a short honeymoon trip they will make their home on the M. Pierrepont Ranch near Marysville, Mo.

    Honored on 25th wedding nnniversary
    A surprise pot luck dinner was held Sunday, April 1, at the West Lake Shelter House in Topeka for the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Colter. After the dinner, cake and ice cream were served. The cake was decorated with pink and white roses with silver leaves and topped with a 25 year ornament. It was baked by Mrs. Colter’s sister, Mrs. Walter Brazzle.

    The gathering was a real surprise for the Colters. About 125 attended. Those attending from Wamego were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Breymeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Norman May and Dorothy, Mr. and Mrs. Al Besta, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brazzle and family.

    VELMA E. COLTER
    Velma E. Colter, 86, Topeka, died Dec. 9, 2006, at Lexington Park Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 24, 1920, at Rossville, the daughter of Garlton and Agnes Reser Startup.
    Velma owned and operated the 1 Do Drop In Cafe for over 15 years. She worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield retiring at the age of 80.
    She was married to Homer Charles Colter on April 5, 1937. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Albert Besta; two sisters: Helen Richard and Phyllis May; and two grandsons, Alan Fletchall and Allen Fletchall.
    Surviving are a daughter: Barbara A. Hesting of Topeka; a son and daughter-in-law: Charles H. and Jean Ann Colter of Tecumseh; a sister: Marie Brazzle of Wamego; a brother: Averill Startup of Oroville, Wash.; four grandchildren: James Fletchall, Tracy Patrick, Lisa Stevenson, and Tim Colter; 16 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence.
    Interment was in Rochester Cemetery.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
