    Wedding train

Hollywood couldn't have staged the marriage of Debbie Wehner and Richard Baker any better Friday.

Baker, who works in the Santa Fe offices here, is a long-time railroad buff who spends much of his time talking shop with train crews on the lines that serve Topeka.

Baker and his attendants, attired in tails, top hats and canes, walked the five blocks from his home to the Meade Park Gardens, where the wedding vows were exchanged.

Then, at 7 p.m., the prelude to the service was played not on an organ, but with a pre-arranged, minute-long blast from a Rock Island locomotive at the bottom of the hill. -M.B.

Wehner-Baker Wedding Held at Meade Park Gardens

Meade Park Garden, Topeka, was the setting for the marriage of Debra L. Wehner and Richard D. Baker at 7 p.m. Friday evening, June 2, 1978. Reverend Bob Sieh officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple were Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wehner, Rossville, Mr. David P. Baker, Topeka, and the late Mrs. Baker.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. Her gown of sheer organza formed the charming creation chosen by Debbie for her wedding. The stand collar accented the pinafore style front. The full, bishop sleeves were finished by ruffled cuffs. Rows of petite ruffles edged the hem of the full floor length skirt. Godets of ruffles detailed the sides where the skirt swept back into a cathedral train. A Juliet cap of lace held a fingertip length veil of lace edged white illusion to complete her wedding attire. She carried a colonial nosegay bouquet of pink sweetheart roses, blue miniature carnations, yellow, green, and lavender painted daisies, baby's breath, and leatherleaf backed with white lace, accented with long blue ribbon streamers. Her bouquet included her grandmother's pale yellow pineapple-fiber handkerchief.

Miss Maura Fox, Topeka, was maid of honor, and Miss Cindy Shriver, Topeka, was the bridesmaid. They wore identical floor length dresses of baby blue eyelet, with a capelet ruffle at the neck, and a flounce ruffle at the hem. The dresses were gathered at the waist with a wide sash that formed a large bow in back. Their bouquets were smaller colonial nosegays similar to the bride's. The attendants wore silk daisy hair pieces.

Lighting the candles were the bride's nieces, Cindy and Angi Wehner. They wore long dresses identical to the bridesmaids', and their tiny bouquets were styled similar to the bride's. They too, wore silk daisy hair pieces.

Beckie Wehner, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her long dress was the same as those of the attendants. She had flowers in her hair, and carried a white wicker basket from which she dropped pink rose petals.

The groom was attired in formal dress black tails, and top hat. He carried a cane. His boutonniere was a blue carnation, accented by a pink sweetheart rose, set in the center and surrounded by baby's breath.

John R. Kennedy, Topeka, was the best man; the groomsman was Pat Loehr, Topeka. The two were attired in formal dress black tails, including top hats and canes. Their boutonnieres were blue carnations, accented by a pink daisy set in center and surrounded by baby's breath.

Robbie Wehner, nephew of the bride, carried the rings on a baby blue eyelet pillow. He was dressed the same as the groom and his boutonniere was the same as the groom's attendants.

John Pat Wehner, nephew of the bride, served as usher. He was dressed the same as the groom and his boutonniere was the same as the groom's attendants.

Soloist and guitarist, was Steve Tabor, Topeka. He sang the "Wedding Song," and after exchange of the rings, he sang, "Walk Through This World With Me."

Seated at the guest book was Jan Jennings, Topeka.

The bride's mother wore a floor length pink dress with a sheer cape jacket. Her corsage was red roses accented with leatherleaf and baby's breath.

Both fathers were dressed identical to the groom and attendants. Their boutonnieres were red roses accented with leatherleaf and baby's breath.

Out-of-town guests were Mrs. Esther Frambies, Richardson, Tex.; and Mrs. Dorothy Killough, Erie, Ks., both aunts of the groom.

The reception was held at the American Legion Building in Rossville immediately following the ceremony.

Hostesses were Jan Jennings, Kristie French, and Delores Kennedy, all of Topeka. After the reception a dance was held. Music was by "Bob [ ] and the New Country Boys."

Mrs. Baker is a graduate of Rossville High School, and Brown Mackie College, Salina, where she majored in Fashion Merchandising. She is employed at Clara's, Inc., Topeka. Mr. Baker is a graduate of Topeka High School and is employed in the Santa Fe general offices, Topeka.

After a honeymoon trip to Nashville, Tenn., the couple is at home in Topeka.
