    Mr. Martin Whearty and Miss Ella Johnson were married Christmas Day in Topeka by the Rev. Mallory. Miss Johnson is the popular and efficient teacher of the Twin Rose school north of town.

    Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Whearty will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, December 28, in the Rossville Community Center. No invitations will be issued but they invite all their friends and relatives to the reception from 2 to 4 p. m.

    Mr. and Mrs. Whearty were married December 25. 1907 at the home of Rev. Gordon in Topeka. They have lived all their lives in this community where Mr. Whearty was engaged in farming until he retired in 1954 and moved to Rossville. They have six children, Galen. Everett and Ruth of Wichita, Calvin of Topeka. Riley of Houghton Michigan, and Lester of Manlius, N.Y. There are eleven grandchildren. All. the children plan to attend the anniversary celebration.

    Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Whearty of Rossville announce the marriage of their daughter, Ruth Maxine, to Pvt. Edward G. Wanick, son of Mrs. Gladys Halbert, Alton, Ill.

    The Rev. George Hoyer officiated at the double ring ceremony Thursday evening, March 22 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in the presence of a few close friends.

    The couple's only attendants were Mrs. John H. Hefner and Mr. Elmer E. Spillman.

    The bride, an attractive brunette, was smartly dressed in a light brown dressmaker's suit with dark brown and white accessories. Her shoulder corsage consisted of a single orchid.

    Mrs. Hefner was dressed in a gold suit with black accessories. Her shoulder corsage consisted of gardenias.

    Mrs. Wanick, a graduate of Rossville High School and Jane C. Stormont Training School for Nurses, is now a member of the nursing staff at Winter General Hospital, Topeka.

    Pvt. Wanick, who recently returned after 30 months in the South Pacific with the Fifth Air Force, is stationed at Fort Thomas, Kentucky, where Mrs. Wanick plans to join him soon.

    Ruth McGlothlin
    Ruth Whearty Wanick McGlothlin, 72, Mesa, Ariz.,, formerly of Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 1995, at a hospital in Mesa.

    Mrs. McGlothlin was a nurse. She worked at Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Sedgwick County Hospital, and then was a school nurse for USD No. 259.

    She was born March 16, 1923, in Rossville, the daughter of Martin and Ella Johnson Whearty. She was reared in Rossville and was graduated from the Jane C. Stormont School of Nursing in Topeka in 1944.

    She married Edward Wanick in March 1945 at Topeka. He died Aug. 27, 1981. She married Bob McGlothlin June 18, 1983, in Mesa, Ariz. He died Jan. 4, 1991.

    Survivors include a son, Dr. Stephen Wanick, Peoria, Ariz., a daughter, Diana Davis, Wichita; two brothers, Galen Whearty, Wichita, and Lester Whearty, Sun City, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Chapel. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. McGlothlin will lie in state after noon today at the funeral home.
