Obituary- Banks, Elaine

ELAINE E. BANKS

Elaine E. Banks, 70, St. Marys, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Lexington Park Center in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 6, 1937, at Hanover, the daughter of Jake F. and Edna Mary Louise Schroeder Werner. She spent her early life in the Hanover community then lived in the St. Marys and Maple Hill communities. She and her husband Jim with their family lived on a farm in the Emmett community and Elaine moved back to St. Marys in the early 90s where she lived until moving to Wamego in April 2006.

Mrs. Banks graduated from Maple Hill High School and attended Clarks School of Business. After her husband’s death, she received a certificate in accounting from Kaw Valley Vo-Tech in Topeka. Elaine was a great cook at St. Marys Manor. Later she worked for Bayer Stone and Knoll’s Patient Supply. She most recently was an assistant librarian and lead story time at the Pottawatomie-Wabaunsee Regional Library in St. Marys before she retired because of ill health.

Elaine was a member of the Emmett United Methodist Church. She had been a Sunday school teacher at the St. Marys United Methodist Church and helped with Noah’s Neighbors in Emmett. She also had been a Girl Scout leader.

On July 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jimmie “Jim” Banks at Maple Hill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1987.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra “Deb” (Gary) Wulfkuhle, Rossville, Janet (Bill) Rafferty, Emmett and Jane (Keith) McCollum, Olathe; a sister Lorene Richardson, Springfield, Mo.; a brother Robert (Bob) Werner, Grove, Okla.; three granddaughters and three grandsons; one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Emmett United Methodist Church.

Internment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett.
