Obituary- Reser, Agnes

Mrs. Agnes Reser died Monday morning about 9:15 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. James while sitting at the table eating her breakfast. She had arisen apparently in her usual health. Death took her without a struggle and it was several moments after she laid her head on the table that Grandma James, who was in the dining room at the time, became alarmed and called the family. Heart trouble was the cause of her death.
Agnes Reser was born in Ripley county, Indiana, June 10, 1839, departed this life March 17, 1919, aged 79 years, 9 months and 7 days. In the year 1858 she was married to William Henry Reser, in Ripley county, Indiana. To this union eleven children were born, eight of whom survive her.
In the year 1870 she came to Kansas with her husband, coming as far as St. Louis by steamboat and from that point to Topeka, Kansas, on the railroad. For three years they lived in the old Indianola hotel and then took up a homestead in Pottawatomie county and lived on it until the year 1883, when the family moved to Rossville township and purchased the farm three miles northwest of Rossville.
Mr. Reser died April 28, 1908 and Mrs. Reser has made her home among her children since his death. At the age of 16 she united with the Baptist church, but transferred her letter to the Christian church after coming to Kansas, and was faithful to the end. Her motto in life was “Love thy neighbor as thyself”.
The funeral was held yesterday at 2 o’clock in the Christian church the service conducted by Revs. F.H. Bentley and W.A. Manion.
The surviving members of the family are: Five sons – Rolly and Wyatt, of Topeka; Zack, of Dover; B.F. and John C. of Rossville; three daughters – Mrs. Melvina Nason, of Topeka, Mrs. C.E. James and Mrs. John C. Shenk, of Rossville; one brother, J. Harve Reser; one sister, Mrs. Silas Cooper, of Topeka; thirty-three grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
