Obituary- Reser, Monterville B.

M.B. RESER DIED SUDDENLY
Monteville Bood Reser, died very suddenly Tuesday forenoon at his home west of Cross Creek. A short time before he passed away he had been using a scythe cutting weeds in the street in front of his home. Death came as he sat in a chair.
Mr. Reser, had for some time been troubled with heart trouble, but at the date of his death had been feel¬ing fine.
Funeral services were held today at 2 o’clock at the home, conducted by Rev. G.G. Horne. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. J.D. Fink, Miss Edith Higginbotham, Mrs. Peter Navarre, Mr. J.D. Fink and Rev. G.S. Pritchett. The pall bear¬ers included C.E. Cless, J.F. Zook, George Higginbotham, John Kesler, Frank Stumbaugh, and Ira T. Hop¬kins. The body was interred in Rossville cemetery.
Mr. Reser was born at Georgetown Scott county, Kentucky, March 27, 1840, being 81 years, 5 months and 17 days old at the date of his decease. He came to Kansas in I860. He was married to Emma Lacock in 1874 who passed away in 1878. Two children were born to this union, out both are now de¬ceased.
In 1881 he was married to Eunice Rife, a native of Calhoun, Mo. Six children were born to this union of whom five with the widow survive. They are Mrs. Mabel C. Ruff, Mrs. Edna L. Lynde, Mrs. Lillian E. Webb, Mr. Ernest L. Reser, all of Rossville; Mrs. Olive M. McGann, of Topeka. There are also eleven grandchildren surviving, one brother, Wyatt Reser of Rossville and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Sawyer, Topeka and Mrs. Harriett Sawyer, of Maple Hill.
Mr. Reser was a member of the Christian church. He was one of our best known farmers who retired from active work about 11 years ago, moving to Rossville and buying what is known as the Devinney place for his home. The home farm is oc¬cupied by his son Ernest.
Mr. Reser was a devoted husband and father, a genial and kindly neighbor and a faithful friend. His memory will be cherished by all who were so fortunate as to know him.
