He was born March 22, 1896, at Rossville, Ks. He was married to Gladys Eversole in 1920 at Rossville. She survives. A son, David Wood, died in 1974. Survivors, besides his widow, include three sons, Robert Wood, Sandpoint, Ida.; James Wood, Samuels, Ida., and Douglas Wood, Houston, Tex; two daughters, Mrs. Anita Johnson, Beatty, Nev.; and Mrs. Virginia Franzen, Biloxi, Miss.; a brother, Frank Wood, Rossville; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Rezac, St. Marys; 23 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, January 24, at Blythe, Calif., with burial in a Quartzsite, Ariz., cemetery. | |

The father had gotten out at his home and the grandfather started to drive on when the accident occurred. Mr. and Mrs. Riley Wood are former Rossville residents, he being the brother of Mr. Frank Wood and Mrs. Wood is the sister of Mrs. L.P. Hartzell. | |

Woodford, 76, died Monday morning at his home on Route 1, Silver Lake, from the effects of a fall from his hay loft Saturday morning. He was born January 29, 1861, at Phillip, W. Va., and came to Kansas in 1887. He had made his home in the vicinity of Silver Lake for 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Woodford; three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Cochran, Route 6, North Topeka; Mrs. Lillie Price, San Bernardino, Calif.; and Mrs. Lloyd Cole, Meriden; five sons, Boyd A. Woodford, Silver Lake; Robert Woodford, Everett, Wash.; Orvel D. Woodford, Topeka; Clarence Woodford, Belvue, and Melvin Woodford, Abilene, and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 2 o’clock at Peebler’s funeral home The body lay in state at the funeral home until the funeral hour. Burial was in Prairie Home cemetery. | |

He was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church and Delia Lodge No. 419, AF&AM, at Delia. He was married to Ethel Pointer Oct. 7.1923, at Johnson. She survives. A son. Bob Woodley, died in 1976. Other survivors include a daughter, Virginia Woodley, Topeka; a son, Donald Woodley, Portland, Ore.; and four grandsons. Parker-Price Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. She was born Sept. 4, 1924, at Syracuse, the daughter of Donald B. and Ethel A. Woodley. She was graduated from Seton School of Nursing, Colorado Springs, in 1947. Miss Woodley worked at several Vet-erans Administration hospitals before she retired from Topeka VA Medical Center on March 21,1981. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Ethel A. Woodley, 5000 Huntoon; and a brother, Don B. Woodley, Boise, Idaho. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise. She had been ill at the home of her sister for the past six weeks. Mrs. Work was born at St. Marys, February 25, 1883, and most of her life had been spent near Emmett and Delia. She married Elbert N. Work on March 31, 1915. He survives her. Besides her husband, she leaves six sisters, Mrs. F. A. Redmon of Harvard Ill., Mrs. C. T. Gaumer, Mrs. Mora E. Gideon, Mrs. Jacob Scheetz and Mrs. Earl Barney, all of Topeka and Mrs. O. J. Oleson, of West Palm Beach, Fla., two brothers, Lous Franz of Emmett and Fred L. Franz of Holton, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Delia, Sunday at 2 p.m. and burial took place in the Adrian cemetery. | |

She was born March 15, 1906, in Williamstown, the daughter of Sylvester and Emmaline Whitlock Webb. Mrs. Workman was a member of the Farm Bureau. She was married to Harvey W. Workman May 25, 1928, in Lawrence. They farmed in the Grantville community many years. He died Oct. 10, 1970. A son, Johnny Workman, died Sept. 22, 1947. Survivors include three sons, Harvey R. Workman, Topeka, and Dan L. Workman and William Workman, both of Grantville; a daughter, Jacqueline Hall, Grantville; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Grantville Cemetery. Mrs. Workman will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. | |

She was born January 14, 1949 at Delia, the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Stum Horak. She grew up in the Delia community and graduated from Delia Grade School. She graduated from Rossville High School and attended Strickler Business College in Topeka. She had worked in Topeka before moving to Osage City where she worked at the Osage Manor. She and her family moved to Manchester in 1996. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and the ZCBJ Lodge. She was married to Albert William "Bill" Workman on February 2,1974 at Topeka. To this union a daughter Tammy was born. Peggy Jean is survived by her husband, Bill Workman and her daughter, Tammy Workman both of Manchester; her parents, Bennie and Sarah Horak, Silver Lake; a brother, Don Horak, Delia; and several nieces and nephews. Luneral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 16, 2007 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in the Czech Moravan Cemetery north of Rossville. Mrs. Workman will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home where family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30. A private burial service is being planned at the Delia Cemetery, with the Verschelden Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Worthington was born Dec. 19, 1889, at Phillipsburg, and spent her early life in the Delia community. She made her home many years in Rawlins. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Survivors include her husband, James Worthington, of the home; and a twin brother, Lynn Keller, Rossville. Worthington, who suffered his second stroke of paralysis last Thursday, passed away Friday night at his home on the Abe Patterson farm west of Rossville. In his passing Rossville losses one of its highly respected citizens and a mighty good farmer. Walter Bruce Worthington was born near Paoli, Indiana, December 28, 1857. Died in Rossville, Kansas, March 20, 1926, age, 68 years, 2 months and 20 days. In 1870, at the age of 13, he came to Kansas with his parents and five sisters. They stopped in Lecompton, but later settled in Medina. In 1882 he came to Rossville and has resided in this vicinity continuously since that time. In 1884 he was married to Mame Mostoller, and to this union four children were born, the only son dying in infancy. Surviving him are the widow, two sisters, Mrs. Mary McCoy of Ozawkie Kansas and Mrs. Emma Johnson, of Carols, Washington; three daughters, Blanche Gilbert of Oklahoma City, Maude Reinhardt, of Topeka, and Faye Wilder of Pauline; two granddaughters. Funeral services were held at the Rossville Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock Monday, March 22, conducted by the Rev. H.L. Nelson, pastor of the Potwin Presbyterian church, Topeka. Burial was in Rossville cemetery. Out-of-town friends here for the funeral were: Mrs. F.H. Watt, Mrs. J.I. Davis, Mrs. F.H. Heere, Mr. John C. Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Thomas, all of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bouchey, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kitt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom, all of Maple Hill. | 10923 |  | Obituary- Wright, Ada and Wright, Kristie and Wright, Carl A very tragic accident occurred last Thursday night when a station wagon driven by Mrs. Ada Wright, 27 of Syracuse, Ks., plunged off the bridge and into Cross Creek at Rossville. There were nine people in the station wagon; two children thrown out into the water; Kristie Marie, 2 years old and Carl Wright, 4 years old were dead when found. Mrs. Wright died before reaching the hospital. The four other child-ren; Raymond, 9; Frankie, 8; LaVonna, 6 and Llewellyn, 5 suffered multiple bruises and abrasions. Also injured were Joy Hayzlett, 16, of Syracuse and Berlin Wagoner, 22, of Lakin, Kans. They were reported in serious condition at Stormont Vail Hospital. Mrs. Wright was on a trip from Syracuse to see her husband who was working in Kansas City, Mo. Searchers found the bodies of the two children hours after the accident. Harvey Bohner, Shawnee County undersheriff said excessive speed was the cause of the accident. Sheriffs officers reported the vehicle was estimated to be traveling 80 miles per hour when it rounded the curve at the west edge of Rossville. | |

She was born April 3,1923, in Rossville, the daughter of Roy W. and Emma Ruth Trostle Searcy. She was graduated in 1940 from Meriden High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She lived in Meriden, Lawrence, Denver, Albuquerque and Gallup, N.M., and San Angelo, Texas. She was a secretary for McKinley County Schools in Gallup, N.M., 22 years before she retired in 1989. She was a member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church. She was married to Ray William Wright June 20, 1945, in Lawrence. He died Jan. 30, 1993. Survivors include a son, Dana Ray Wright, Denver; a daughter, Tana Lynn Day, Land O’Lakes, Fla.; three brothers, Edward Searcy, Carl Searcy and Ray Searcy, all in Topeka; four sisters, Mary Miller, Golda Plumly and Pearl Wood, all in Topeka, and Eileen Creveling, Des Moines, Iowa; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery. Professor Wright has been principal of Lincoln school since the fall of 1903 and prior to that time he was principal of the Quincy street school in North Topeka for a number of years. He was one of the best known educators in this section of the state as wells as one of the most popular with his pupils and their parents alike. He is survived by a wife and six children. She was born May 1, 1903, near Topeka, the daughter of August and Laura Schaefer Bahnmaier. She was graduated from Highland Park High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. Mrs. Wulfkuhle was a member of Delia United Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women. She was a charter member of the Delia Up and Atom Extension Homemakers Unit. She also had been a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka and she had served as a 4-H leader and a Benham Grade School school board member. She married Harvey T. Wulfkuhle on Nov. 24,1927, in Topeka. He died Aug. 26, 1986. Survivors include three daughters, Laura Kimbal, Stull, Lois D. Lister and Annette Payne, both of Topeka; a son, Duane Wulfkuhle, Topeka; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The discourse was delivered by Rev. J.G. Maver, who spoke from Philippians 1st, last clause of 21st verse: "To die is gain." The reverend gentleman treated in a convincing manner of the reality, the fullness and the perpetuity of the "gain" that death brings to the Christian, and stated that the Christian's hope was that which solaced the deceased when the hour of death drew near and earthly things receded. Hymns suitable to the occasion were sung by the Presbyterian choir, with Miss Nettie Howard at the organ. Mr. Wyatt was injured in a railroad accident about a year ago, and from that time to the day of his death he was more or less an invalid, and his death was hastened by cancer of the stomach. His home was at Horton, but he was well known in Rossville, where he once resided. He was brother to Mrs. H.H. Miller, Mrs. E. Partello [sic- Partelow] and Perry Wyatt. | |

He grew up in Minden and graduated from Delia High School. Tom was married to Mavis Jean Taylor on February 17, 1951 at Topeka, Kansas. They lived in Delia, Kansas, where he worked for Good Year. In 1974 they moved to Aurora, where he worked at IAMS until he retired. In 1995, they moved to Henderson, North Carolina for two years. Upon returning to Aurora in 1997, Tom worked for Aurora Public Schools, City of Aurora Parks Department and working harvest for Mike Hawthorne. Mavis passed away on December 26, 2010. Tom enjoyed farming, visiting, coffee at Casey’s, car racing, rodeos, his dog Bo and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two great-grandsons; son-in-law, Larry McKinnon and four brothers, Bob, Jerry, Larry and Harley Wyatt. Burial with military graveside services conducted by Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31, American Legion, Rossville, will be in the Delia Cemetery. | 10948 |  | Obituary- Wyatt, Ronald Ronald D. “Ron” Wyatt Ronald D. "Ron” Wyatt, 61, of Paxico, KS passed away Friday, June 20, 2014. He was born March 14, 1953 in Holdrege, NE, the son of Robert C. and Edna M. (Bent) Wyatt. He was a 1971 graduate of Rossville High School. Ron was employed and later retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Topeka. He was a member of Rubber Workers Union Local No. 307. Survivors include four siblings, Bob (Linda) Wyatt, Raymond, KS, Mike (Joetta) Wyatt, Burlingame, KS, Pat (Edith) Wyatt, Pierceville, KS and Dave (Tracie) Wyatt, Hoyt, KS; his mother, Edna Wyatt, Lyons, KS; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and “cousin” Ruby Groothuis and family of Nebraska. Mr. Wyatt was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. | 10949 |  | Obituary- Wyatt, Susan MRS JAMES WYATT Mrs. Susan E. Wyatt, aged 73 years, 6 months and 4 days, died Wednesday morning, April 22, at 5 o’clock at her home three-fourths of a mile west of Grove. Mrs. Wyatt succumbed to an illness of about eleven days duration. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock in the Silver Lake Baptist church of which faith Mrs. Wyatt had been a member since girlhood. The body will be brought to Rossville cemetery for burial. Mrs. Wyatt had been a resident of Rossville and Silver Lake townships since September, 1891, when the family moved to Rossville from Morgan county, Kentucky, where she was born October 17, 1851. Beside her aged husband she is survived by eight children, four boys and four daughters. They are: John, of Silver Lake; Alva, of Maysville, Kentucky; Auty, of Sacramento, Calif.; Cleve, of Rossville; Mrs. W.W. Trimble, of Topeka; Mrs. Lula Forrest, of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. J.W. Barney and Mrs. Noah Trimble of Rossville. Two brothers and one sister also survive: H.W. Cottle of Topeka, John Howerton, of Lenox, Kentucky and Mrs. Tom Caskey, of Lenox, Kentucky. There are twenty-two grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. | |
| 10950 |  | Obituary- Wyatt, Uriah URIAH THOMAS WYATT Uriah Thomas Wyatt, 59, died in a Colby, Kansas, hospital last Sunday, October 14th. “Riah” as he was known to his Rossville friends when the family first moved do this community, was born in Mason County, Kentucky, February 24, 1886 but had lived in various sections of Shawnee County until he moved to Monument, Kansas, three years ago. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Juanita Wyatt, of the home; two sons, Orville Wyatt, of the home and Myron Wyatt, of California; three sisters, Mrs. Luttie Fisher of the Kiro neighborhood; Mrs. Nora McDaniels of Silver Lake, and Mrs. Martha Markey of Maysville, Ky.; four brothers, Isaac Wyatt and Gardner Wyatt, of Delia; Johnny Wyatt, of Hoyt, and Kiah Wyatt of Topeka; and four grandchildren. Graveside services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Rossville cemetery. |
