| 9401 |  | Obituary- Sage Harvey 2 Harvey Sage ROSSVILLE — Harvey Sage, 93, Rossville, died Friday, Nov. 10, 1995, at a Rossville nursing home. Mr. Sage worked for the Washburn University maintenance department for many years. Before that, he farmed in the Dover community and had been a gasoline tank truck driver. He was born Nov. 1, 1902, at Dover, the son of Edwin and Ann Scott Sage. He grew up in the Dover community and moved to Rossville in 1955. He was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, Dover Masonic Lodge No. 138, AF&AM at Dover and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Sage married Fern Vivian Hickey April 20, 1931, at Council Grove. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Arlyn Sage, Rossville; one sister, Ellen Randall, Topeka; and five grandchild-ren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by Dover Lodge No. 138 AF&AM. Mr. Sage will lie in state today from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Piper-Verschelden Funeral home, where the family will receive friends at that time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders organization and sent in care of the funeral home. | |
| 9402 |  | Obituary- Sage, Agnes MRS. AGNES D. SAGE Mrs. Agnes D. Sage, 88, of Silver Lake, died Sunday morning in a Topeka hospital. She was born January 1,1870, at Brechin, Scotland, and spent most of her life in the Dover & Silver Lake communities. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Albert W. Sage died in 1914. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank Colter, Silver Lake, and Mrs. L. N. Annen. Topeka; a son. R. J. Sage, Topeka; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 pm Tuesday at Parker Mortuary with burial in Silver Lake Cemetery. | |
| 9403 |  | Obituary- Sage, Albert TWO WELL KNOWN MEN DEAD Albert Sage, a pioneer settler of Shawnee died last Sunday evening at a hospital in Kansas City and the body was brought to Silver Lake Monday. The funeral was held from the Sage home one mile south of Silver Lake. The Masonic lodge had charge of the funeral and one of the greatest crowds ever in attendance at a funeral came to pay their last respects to Mr. Sage. Mr. Sage was born in Syracuse, N. Y. 61 years ago and came to Kansas about the time of the civil war. He settled near Dover. Later he moved to Silver Lake. He is survived by his widow, and three children, Mrs. Lewis Annan, Robert and Ruth Sage. | |
| 9404 |  | Obituary- Sage, Arlyn Arlyn Harvey Sage Arlyn Harvey Sage,78 Rossville passed away Tuesday, March 28,2017 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born February 25, 1939 at Dover the son of J. Harvey and Fern V. Hickey Sage. Arlyn grew up in the Dover and Rossville communities and graduated from Rossville High School. He also was a graduate of Washburn University, Topeka. Arlyn retired from the United States Air Force in 1982 at the rank of Major after 20 years of service. He later worked for Roach Hardware in Topeka many years. He had lived in the Rossville community many years and was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion. He attended the Assemblies of God Junction Korean Church with his wife Sunye. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was united in marriage to Song Sunye on December 4, 1982 at Abilene, TX. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three sons, John, Joseph and David Sage; two daughters, Teresa and Judy Sage; four grandsons. Funeral services were Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Dover Cemetery. | |

"Auty" Sage ROSSVILLE - Austin M. “Auty” Sage, 86, a resident of the Dover, Willard and Rossville communities all his life, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was born Sept. 14, 1917, near Dover, the son of Thomas P. and Amelia Best Sage. He married Luella Olson on Feb. 11, 1942, in Topeka. He farmed all his life and had worked for Washburn University in Topeka for 27 years. He was a member of Dover Federated Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife, Luella Sage, of the home; a daughter, Arietta Nichols, Topeka; a son, Melvin Sage, Topeka; a sister, Helen Musick, Dover; five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dover Federated Church. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery, Dover. Mr. Sage will lie in state after 2 p.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice House and sent in care of the Piper Funeral Chapel at 419 Main, Rossville, Kan. 66533. | |
| 9406 |  | Obituary- Sage, Elizabeth Real Pioneer of Kansas Mrs. Elizabeth Sage, 79, Has Resided in Kansas Since 1851 Mrs. Eliza Sage, 79, pioneer resident of Dover, died at the home of her son, Fred Sage, 510 Topeka Ave. yesterday morning. Mrs. Sage came to Kansas with her parents when she was 6 years old. She resided in Topeka when it had only one store. Later she moved to a farm near Dover. She was married to Aaron Sage at Dover September 11, 1865, and made her home near Dover until three years ago, when she came to Topeka Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, George Sage and Fred Sage, Topeka, and Mrs. Minnie Bundy, Dover, and two grandchildren, Miss Doris Miler and Harley Sage, Topeka. Lincoln Circle No. 1. Ladies of the G. A. R. will hold a short ritualistic service at the Sage home at 10 o’clock Thursday morning. Funeral services will be at the Dover Methodist church at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in Dover cemetery. | |

He lived in Topeka most of his life. He worked 40 years at M. W. Watson Construction Co. before retiring in 1972. He was married to Florence Simpson April 23, 1930, in Alma. She survives. She was born October 29,1910, in a sod house near Scott City, the daughter of John H. and Maud A. Beckley Hickey. Her first trip was in a covered wagon. Fem moved with her family to the Dover community, where she lived until she moved to Rossville in 1955. She was graduated from Washburn University, Topeka, with a Master’s Degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Shawnee and Wabaunsee counties for many years. She was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. She was also a 50-year member of Loyal Chapter No. 176 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Silver Lake, and a past District Aide with the Eastern Star. She was married to J. Harvey Sage April 20, 1931, at Council Grove. He died November 10, 1995. Surviving her are a son, Arlyn Sage, Rossville; a sister, Norma Moore, Phoenix, AZ; a brother, John R. Hickey, Topeka; and five grandchildren. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville. Her service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Dover Cemetery, Dover. Mr. Sage was a shift foreman at Goodyear Rubber & Tire Co. in Topeka when he retired in 1977. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Willard. the son of Vincent C. and Laura Vawter Sage. He was graduated from Rossville High School. He was married to Mary Ann Herron on June 23, 1946, in Topeka. | 9411 |  | Obituary- Sage, Luella LUELLA M. OLSON SAGE Luella M. Olson Sage, 92, of Willard, passed away Sunday, March 17,2013, at her home. She was born Feb. 27,1921, at Rossville, the daughter of Elmer R. and Hazel F. Lloyd Olson. She grew up in Rossville and graduated from Rossville High School with the Class of 1939. Mrs. Sage worked in food service most of her life. She was the first cook for the Hot Lunch program at the Dover Grade School. She also was the head cook at the Rossville Grade School. Luella worked at Washburn University and several local restaurants. She retired from the V.A. Canteen in 1982 after 15 years of service. Mrs. Sage was a member of the Dover Federated Church and a member of the Dover Ladies Aid. On Feb. 11, 1942, she was united in marriage to Austin M. Sage at Topeka. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2004. Survivors include her son, Melvin D. (Loretta) Sage, Willard; her daughter, Arietta E. (G. Gene) Nichols, Willard; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Friday, March 22, at the Dover Cemetery, Dover. | 9412 |  | Obituary- Sage, Robert L. Robert Sage Passes Away Dover—Robert L. Sage, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his rural Dover home. He was born April 12, 1928 on a farm near Dover the son of John L. and Mary Moran Sage. Bob was raised in the Dover community and graduated from Dover High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bob was a farmer and stockman all of his life. He served over 30 years on the Kaw Valley REA Board. He was a member of the Dover American Legion and had served on Dover School Board. Bob was a member of, and was president of Shawnee County Fire District No.4. He also was a member of Wabaunsee County Farm Bureau and served as president for two years. Bob was a past member of Dover Lodge No. 490 IOOF. On May 8, 1955 he was united in marriage to Caryolne L. Mischler in Topeka. She preceded him in death on April 30, 1999. He later married Lucille Leach on April 14, 2001. She died March 5, 2013. Survivors include two sons, Roger (Brenda) Sage, Maple Hill and Rob (Denise) Sage, Dover; two daughters, Janet Sage Bruce, Dover and Beverly (Terry) Weber-Cobb, Topeka; a brother, Harold (Adell) Sage, Dover; a sister, Shirley (Fred) Jepson, Topeka; a sister-in-law Shirley (Chris) Davis and family, Salina; grandchildren, Amos, Lacey, Jessie, Lindsay, Ross, Hallie, Reed and Raven; 8 great-grandchildren. He attended rural district school No. 5, west of Dover, and school No. 5, west of Dover, and Strickler's Business College in Topeka. He was married to Mary Luella Moran on May 19, 1927. The couple lived on their farm southwest of Dover until September 1990, when they moved to a retirement center in Topeka. Mrs. Sage survives. Other survivors include two sons, Robert Sage and Harold Sage, both of Dover; a daughter, Shirley Jepson, Topeka; a brother, Harvey Sage Rossville; a sister, Ellen Randall, Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was born January 28, 1922 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Thomas V. and Ruth A. (Clements) Herron. Ann graduated from Topeka High School in 1940. She later went on to attend Strickler Business College (Clark Business School). Ann was a homemaker. Ann married John W. Sage June 23, 1946 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1994. Ann later married Sam G. Kelsey. Sam also preceded her in death. Survivors include three children, Tom (Carolyn) Sage of Topeka, Sharrai (Larry) McCammon of Tecumseh and Scott (Angela) Sage of Topeka; five grandchildren, Ryan, Tracey, Brian, Rebecca and Tyler; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; two brothers, Bill and John Herron. Ann enjoyed playing cards, bowling and square dancing. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Cremation has taken place and no memorial services are planned at this time per her request. Mrs. Saia and her husband owned and operated a general store in Emmett many years. She was born Nov. 15, 1893, at Emmett, the daughter of Slavna and Elizabeth Kalcik. Mrs. Saia was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church at Emmett and the Altar Sodality of the church. She was married to Samuel L. Saia in September 1912 at Delia. He died July 20, 1944. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marie Holligan, Colorado Springs, and Mrs. LaVerne Holligan, Denver; a son, Marion J. Saia, Emmett; a brother, Edward Kalcik, Scranton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys. Burial was in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett, by the Verschelden Funeral Home. Mrs. Saia died Friday in a Sabetha hospital. She was born Oct. 11, 1890, at Rossville and had lived in the Delia community most of her life before moving to Sabetha about two years ago. She was a member of the Delia Sacred Heart Church. Mrs. Saia was married to Joseph Saia in 1911 at Emmett. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1934. Survivors include two sons: Victor Saia and Joseph Saia, both of Topeka; two daughters: Mrs. Pauline Banks, Sabetha; Mrs. Josephine Reilly, Topeka. Two brothers: Ed Kalcik, of Scranton; Joe Kalcik, Silver Lake; two sisters: Mrs. Anna Saia, Emmett; Mrs. Emma Finstad, Silver Lake; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was born March 19, 1913, in Delia, the son of Samuel Louis and Anna Marie Kalcik Saia. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Emmett. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #657 and the Thomas McNeive Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, both at St. Marys. He served on the City Council and as City Treasurer at Emmett. He belonged to the Emmett Lions Club. A sister, Marie Holligan, died December 27, 1990. Survivors include one sister, LaVerne Holligan, Englewood, Colo.; two nieces; and two nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at Holy Cross Church in Emmett. Mr. Saia owned and operated the Saia Hardware Store in Emmett many years and the Saia Liquor Store in Emmett since 1948. He was born March 19, 1913, at Delia, the son of Samuel Louis and Anna Marie Kalcik Saia. Mr. Saia was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, served on the city council and was city treasurer at Emmett. Mrs. Saia was a homemaker the majority of her life and enjoyed crocheting, oil painting, gardening and fishing. Mary married Victor Marion Saia on April 22, 1937 in Oskaloosa, KS. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2004. Survivors include two sons, Victor L. (Kay) Saia of Silver Lake and Ronald F. (Barbara) Saia of Richmond, KY; a daughter, Sandra J. (Ken) Broaddus of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dueward Constant and a sister, Ruth Goff. He worked at Boeing in Wichita during World War II. He moved to Topeka in 1945. On April 22, 1937, he married Mary Alice Constant in Oskaloosa. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Victor L. Saia, Silver Lake, and Ronald F. Saia, Richmond, KY.; one daughter, Sandra J. Broaddus, San Diego; a brother, Joe Saia, Topeka; a sister, Josephine Riley, Topeka; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great great-granddaujghter. Victor was prceded in death by a sister, Pauline Banks. The family received friends Monday evening at Penwell Gabel Park-Price Chapel in Topeka. He was born in Soldier, Kansas and was a member of St. Mary’s (Kansas) Methodist Church. He graduated from Baker University (Baldwin, KS) in 1953, served in the U.S. Army and worked in the public utilities industry for 44 years, retiring from One Gas in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judith Salisbury, daughters Debra Kinzel of Des Moines, Iowa, Denise Eaton of Hagerman, Idaho, and Dawn Salisbury of Lawrence, Kansas, stepson Geoffrey Goodway of Derby, Kansas, stepdaughter Gillian Price of Greenville, Indiana, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Irene Salisbury, brother Garold Wayne, son Gary, sister Madge Fraley and great grandson, Kyrie Bell. Salisbury, 79, St. Marys, who died Tuesday, March 30, 1982, at a Lawrence hospital. He was born January 21, 1903, at Soldier, the son of Elmore H. and Viola Jane Berry Salisbury. He moved to St. Marys about 1934. Mr. Salisbury and a brother owned and operated St. Marys Derby Oil station from 1938 to 1964. He was associated with Denton Oil Company from 1964 until he retired in 1968. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and chairman of the church board many years; Boy Scouts of America and was assistant scoutmaster many years; and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, all at St. Marys. He married Irene A. Ward May 17, 1928, at Soldier. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Garold Wayne Salisbury. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Madge M. Fraley, Dodge City; a son, Noel W. Salisbury, Lawrence; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Thomas, Keystone, S.D., Mrs. Velda Koster, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Marie Crumpton, Richmond, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. | 9429 |  | Obituary- Sanders, Flora Mrs. Flora Sanders The community was saddened Friday, Sept. 0, by the announcement of the sudden passing of Mrs. Flora Sanders, 7, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Rogers, Route 9, south of Dover. While she had been in failing health for some time she was considered to be much improved the past two weeks, and was able to do some of the things about the home. Death resulted after a fall part way down basement steps Thursday evening, about 5:30, injuring her head and received body bruises. She lived through the night and passed away Friday noon. Mrs. Sanders was born Dec. 15, 1881, at Westmoreland, and moved to Rossville when a young child and lived here until 1943 when she moved to Dover. She was a member of the Rossville Christian Church and member of Rebecca Lodge No. 733. On March 21, 1907, she was married to William Sanders, and to this union were born two daughters, Grace and Naomi June. The latter passed away in 1917. Mr. Sanders preceded her in death in November 26, 1943. Mrs. Sanders was a devoted wife and mother and kind neighbor and friend to all who knew her. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Grace Rogers, she is survived by two grandchildren, Morma Jean and Marvin Rogers; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Lee and Mrs. Margaret Wax of Topeka and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Rossville Christian church with the Rev. A.A. Van Sickle of the Dover Federated church officiating, assisted by the local pastor, Maurice Graham. Music was furnished by Mrs. Marlin Harth and Mrs. Herbert Trimble with Mrs. Joe Campbell accompanying at the piano. The funeral was held at the Sanders home six miles northwest of Rossville Sunday at 1 o’clock and interment was made in the Rossville cemetery. Little June was a member of the Sunday school at Olive Branch church and attended school at Twin Rose school. She was a general favorite among her companions at school and was always unusually interested in Sunday school for a child of her age. | 9433 |  | Obituary- Sanders, Samuel Obituary Samuel F. Sanders, was born, November 29th, 1860 Modom, Indiana, died December 1, 1920, aged 60 years and 1 day. Samuel Francis Sanders, son of Frank L. Sanders, came to Kansas with his father when a mere lad locating at Topeka in the fall of 1869. The following spring the father located on the homestead which was the continuous home of Samuel until his death. Samuel endured the hardships and privations of pioneer life with the other members of the family, with great fortitude, having unwavering faith and full confidence in the ultimate results of his adopted country. The early demise of the father, threw much of the care and responsibility of rearing and caring for the members of the family upon Samuel, he being an older member. This care and responsibility he assumed with noble purpose and an ever willing heart being a strong arm in time of need to a devoted mother in rearing her family. This fatherly care and devotion to duty endeared him to the younger members of the family far beyond that of a brother merely, he was their refuge in time of trouble, he was their protector in time of need, his help was their assurance his council their guide in deed. This early training of devotion to duty was splendidly exemplified in Samuel's willingness to assist his neighbors. No one needed a helping hand but his was willingly and freely granted. This free, nonchalant spirit in rendering assistance was but one of his splendid virtues and neighbors and friends as well as his relatives will join in worthy tribute to his memory. Funeral services were held at the home, Friday, Dec. 3, conducted by the Rev. R.S. McCullouch, of the Rossville Methodist church and interment made in Rossville cemetery. He was born Nov. 23, 1874, on the same farm where he died. He was a member of the congregation of the Rossville Christian Church and of the A.O.U.W. Lodge of Rossville. In 1909 he was married to Flora Kinnett. To this union two daughters were born, Naomi, who preceded him in death in 1917, at the age of seven, and Grace Sanders Rogers. Mr. Sanders was endowed with all the qualities and virtues that stamp a man a good citizen; devoted to his family, a good neighbor and true friend; a patient sufferer in a long illness. Surviving his departure are his wife, Flora, and daughter, Grace Rogers; two grandchildren, Norma Jean and Marvin Rogers; a niece, Edna Sanders Nealis and a nephew Dan Sanders, both of Stockdale, Kansas. Bob was a Territory Sales Representative in Sales and Manufacturing. He also owned and operated the W. F. Leonard Company and the House of Draperies. He was a talented drapery installer. He married Patricia Smith in Lawrence, Kansas on February 5,1953. She predeceased him on August 15, 1995. He was also preceded in death by all his siblings, Bijou, Jerry, Lilly Lou, Bill and John. Survivors include his two daughters, Terry Cartwright and Cindy Baird of Topeka, two grandsons, Paul and Andrew Baird, and great grandchildren, Gavin, Zane, Teagan and Liam Baird. Scheidegger, 90, 633 Buchanan, who died Thursday night at a Topeka nursing home where she had been two and a half months. She was born Feb. 6. 1888, in Stella, Neb. She lived in the Havensville and Delia communities, and later in Holton five years. She moved to Topeka in 1951. She was a member of Evangel United Methodist Church, Holton. She married John Scheidegger on Aug. 22, 1906, in Topeka. He died Feb. 9,1950. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Streeton, Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Carrie Scheidegger, Holton, and Mrs. Ellen Hedges. Madison Lake, Minn.; five step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Burial was to be in Holton Cemetery, Holton. | 9444 |  | Obituary- Scheidegger, George George N. Scheidegger HOLTON — George N. Scheidegger, 82, Holton, died Friday, Oct. 3, at a Holton hospital. Mr. Scheidegger was a farmer and had worked for the Holton Police Department from 1958 to 1968 and the Holton Street Department from 1968 until he retired in 1971. He was born Dec. 24, 1903, at Bartley, Neb., the son of George M. and Carrie E. Boop Scheidegger. He lived in Holton since 1961. Mr. Scheidegger was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Falls City, Neb. He also was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Holton and Holton Volunteer Fire Department. He married Gertie May Flanders on April 16, 1927, in Topeka. She died June 28, 1974. He married Emeline Ingels on Oct. 14, 1978, at Holton. She survives. An infant son, Clarence Robert Scheidegger, died in 1935, and another son, Fred Scheidegger, died in 1981. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Betty Moore, Holton, and Mrs. Lois Johnson and Mrs. Elsie Ingels, both of Topeka; a son, Dale Scheidegger, Holton; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Darlene Cattrell, Nortonville, and Mrs. Joyce Parrett, Silver Lake; two stepsons, Marvin Ingels, Topeka, and Kenneth Ingels, McPherson; four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Monroe and Mrs. Gertrude Wells, both of Holton, Mrs. Maye Flanders, Topeka, and Mrs. Gwendo- la Curtis, Everest; four brothers, Ted Scheidegger and Charles Scheidegger, both of Holton, and Dean Scheidegger and Bill Scheidegger, both of Topeka; 12 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and six stepgreat- grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a m. Monday at Mercer Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. | 9445 |  | Obituary- Scheidegger, John John Scheidegger John Scheidegger was born in a small log cabin on the Scheidegger homestead in the Dry Branch neighborhood west of Humboldt, Nebr. October 5, 1866, the seventh child of Niklas and Anna Scheidegger. He passed away in Holton, Kansas, Feb. 9, 1950, at the age of 83 years, four months and four days. His education was limited to that of the family fireside, the Dry Branch public school and the German Reformed Sunday School and church in which he was confirmed and a communicant. Reaching maturity Mr. Scheidegger was united in marriage to Miss Arminda Seitz of Humboldt, Neb., and to this union was born two children, Henry Scheidegger and Mrs. Earl Argo, both of Holton. After 11 years, and due to a rift in the marital life of the family, Mr. Scheidegger, with his two children moved to a farm near Delia, in 1904, and with the exception of three years residence in western Nebraska, has resided in Jackson County since that time, retired to Holton in 1946. In 196 he was married to Miss Edith Lenore Boop who has been his constant companion these many years. Of a family of ten children born of hardy pioneer emigrants there are two sisters remaining, Mrs. Drusilla Rasmussen of Limon, Colo., and Mrs. Nettie Simecka of Delia, Kansas. Besides his wife, his two children and his two sisters, he leaves five granddaughters, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. His grandson, Clinton Argo, was killed while serving in the armed forces during the Second World War. Mr. Scheidegger was a quiet, unassuming man, and although his activities were confined mainly to his home and family, he contributed as liberally as he could to every worthy cause in the life of his community and his country. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, at the Mercer Funeral Home. Music was furnished by Miss Chrystine Stoll and Mrs. Everett Shields, Rev. Travis Siever officiating. Mrs. Schilling was co-owner of C-N Schilling Dump Trucking, and she had been a certified nurses aide for Rossville Valley Manor. She also worked in data entry for 16 years. She was born Sept. 7,1949, in Topeka, to Curtis “Joe” Anthony and Betty Jean Naylor Skelton. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1967 and attended Business College. She married Neil Wayne Schilling on March 29, 1980, in Onaga. He survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Michelle Leonhart, in Kansas, and Jordan Schilling and Jade Schilling, both of Silver Lake; a son, Dallas Schilling, Silver Lake; a brother, Jim Skelton, Cut Bank, Mont.; and two sisters, Mary Jo Hayner, Fountain, Colo., and Rene Thompson, Blue Springs, Mo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rossville Christian Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. She was born on Sept. 17, 1900 in Brecken County, Ky., the daughter of Samuel and Liza Webb Townsley. She married Arthur H. Schlotz on April 14, 1921, location unavailable. They moved to Topeka and then to Delia in 1928. He died Oct. 13, 1955. She moved to Maple Hill in 1956. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Raine, on May 24, 1967. Mrs. Schlotz was a member of the Maple Hill Community Congregational Church, the Church Quilter, the American Legion Auxiliary in Maple Hill and the Maple Leaf Club. She is survived by two brothers, Archie Townsley, South Newport, Ky., and Edgar Townsley, Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Ida Eckert, Laconia, Ind., and Julia Smith, Richmond, Ind.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Services will at 1 p.m. Saturday at Maple Hill Community Congregational Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka. Schlup, 57, who died in the VA Hospital at Topeka Sunday. A resident of Rossville for 35 years, Schlup was Rossville water commissioner at the time he became ill. Schlup was born at California, Mo., November 28, 1901. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Craig and Mrs. Genevieve Collins, both of St. Louis, Mo. Tie was a member of the Moose Lodge at Topeka, and a member of the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II. Rosary was recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hurley Funeral Home in Rossville. Burial was in California, Mo., with Rossville Legion members in charge of graveside military services.
