| 11101 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Cecile 1 Cecile O. Zlatnik Cecile Olena Zlatnik, 92, for-merly of Delia, died Sunday, Janu¬ary 5, 1997, at St. Marys Manor. She was born May 21, 1904, near Delia, the daughter of Ludvig Syverin and Ella Lucretia Keller Thompson. She had lived in the Delia community all of her life. She was graduated from Wash¬ington Township High School in 1923, and taught at Stach School prior to her marriage to Joseph Zlatnik on September 24, 1924. Mr. and Mrs. Zlatnik engaged in farming, and were married for 60 years prior to his death on March 2, 1985. She continued teaching in church classes and for a number of years was active in teaching the Menninger Bible Study Course in the Delia area. She was active in community affairs, including the women’s Farm Bureau organizations, which went through several changes of name and is now known AS Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). Mrs. Zlatnik was always interested in the education of young people, and served as president of the Delia Board of Education for 25 years. After the school consoli¬dation movement, she continued to serve on the Board of Education for U.S.D. 321 until she finished her term. An active member of the Delia Presbyterian Church from early adulthood, she served in many official capacities, including clerk of the session, elder, church musician, and Sunday school teacher. In ad-dition, she was active in the women’s groups of the church from Ladies’ Aid to United Pres¬byterian Women. Surviving her are two sons, J. Laverne Zlatnik, Delia, and Roger L. Zlatnik, Topeka; four daughters, Rosella J. Hoglund, Overland Park, Evelyne R. Parkerson, Decatur, GA, Mary Alice Huntsman and Judith L. Macha, both of Topeka; a foster daughter, Della Blodgett, Burbank, CA; three brothers, Alfred Thompson, River¬side, CA, Eugene Thompson, To¬peka, and Maurice Thompson, Rossville; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She will lie in state after 2:00 Tuesday (this afternoon) at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home. A family visitation will be held from 7 until 8 at the funeral home. Her service is at 2:00 Wednesday at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Delia Cem-etery. | 11102 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Cecile 2 Cecile O. Zlatnik DELIA — Cecile Olena Zlatnik, 92, Delia, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, at St. Marys Manor in St. Marys. She was born May 21, 1904, near Delia, the daughter of Ludvig Syverin and Ella Lucretia Keller Thompson, and spent her life in the Delia community. She was graduated from Washington Township High School in 1923 and taught at Stach School. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia many years. She was married to Joseph Zlatnik Sept. 24, 1924. They were farmers many years. He died March 2, 1985. Survivors include two sons, J. Laverne Zlatnik, Delia, and Roger L. Zlatnik, Topeka; four daughters, Rosella J. Hoglund, Overland Park, Evelyne R. Parkerson, Decatur, Ga., and Mary Alice Huntsman and Judith L. Macha, both in Topeka; a foster daughter, Della Blodgett, Burbank, Calif.; three brothers, Alfred Thompson, Riverside, Calif., Eugene Thompson, Topeka, and Maurice Thompson, Rossville; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. | 11103 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Frank Frank Zlatnik Frank Zlatnik, 81, of Twin Falls, Ida., died Sunday, October 28, 1979, at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born May 14, 1898, at Delia, Ks., where he graduated from high school. He attended Washburn College at Topeka. He had lived in Twin Falls for 45 years where he was a salesman for Warever Kitchen Ware for nine years, and was an employee of McVey’s, Bunting Tractors, and the Twin Falls Canal Co. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia, and a former member of the Twin Falls Gun Club. He married Bessie Broyles September 2, 1927, at Silver Lake, Ks. She survives at the home at 240 Sixth Avenue North, Twin Falls, Ida. 83301. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Russel (Elaine) Hunter, Idaho Falls, and Mrs. Victor (Sharon) VanValin, Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, John Zlatnik, Pasadena, Calif., and Joe Zlatnik, Delia, Ks.; a nephew, Anton Zlatnik, Gooding; and three grandchildren, Lori Sellers, Idaho Falls, and Vanessa VanValin and Jonathan VanValin, both of Seattle, Wash. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, at White Mortuary Chapel with Dr. E. Weston Scott officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park. | |

He was a retired farmer. Mr. Zlatnik was born July 15, 1894, at Olivia, Minn., the son of Antonin and Julie Sadek Zlatnik. He moved to the Delia area with his parents as a small child. He was a 70-year member of the Presbyterian Church at Delia, where he had been ruling elder, trustee and treasurer many years. He had also served on the board of education at Delia. He was married to Cecile Thompson Sept. 24, 1924, at Delia. She survives. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce Hoglund. Survivors include two sons, Laverne Zlatnik, Delia, and Leland Zlatnik, Topeka; four daughters, Mary Alice Huntsman and Judith Macha, both of Topeka, Rosella Hoglund, Overland Park, and Evelyn Parkerson, Decatur, Ga.; a foster daughter, Della Blodgett, Burbank, Calif; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. | 11107 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Julie OBITUARY Julie Zlatnik, the daughter of John and Mary Sadek was born on June 25, 1856 at Libstat, Bohemia, a village near the northern border. She was married to Anthonin G.A. Zlatnik, on Oct. 13, 1881. To this union were torn five sons and two daughters; Fred J. of Morrill, Nebr., Anthony, John, Joseph and Anna of Delia and Frank of Twin Falls, Ida. A daughter, Milly died at the age of 25 years while engaged as a settlement worker in Pennsylvania under the Home Missions Board of the Presbyterian Church. The Family with three of the children moved to America in 1891, making their first home near Cuba, Kans. From there going to Olivia, Minn., and finally settling on a farm in what is now the Delia Community about the year 1896 where she has resided to the day of her death. Early in life she became affiliated with the Evangelical Reformed Church, and in America became a member of the Presbyterian Church. To her, her Christian faith was a thing of reality. She would speak of her faith without show but with conviction. She knew the friendship of Jesus. She departed to be with him on Feb. 25, 1942 at the age of 85 years, and eight months. She was preceded in death by her husband who died Oct. 15, 1902. She leaves to mourn her going, six children, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many friends. | |
| 11108 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Miloslara Miss Miloslara Zlatnik was born in Bolatian, Russia, Dec. 30, 1884 and departed this life at Carnegie, Pa., Jan. 3, 1908. The cause of her death was pneumonia brought on by overwork and exposure in her work as a stationary among her own people. She came with her parents to America when about 7 years old and settled at Cuba, Ks. Afterwards they moved to Minnesota and about 10 years ago to Delia. She was well known as an active worker in the Presbyterian Church under whose board she was serving as a missionary worker. | |
| 11109 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Roger Roger Leland Zlatnik Roger Leland Zlatnik passed away on September 29, 2020. He was born February 12, 1929 to Joseph and Cecil Zlatnik. His wife of 64 years, Joann, survives as do sons: Bret Zlatnik (St. Louis, MO) and Craig Zlatnik, wife Barbara (Houston, TX); son Aaron Zlatnik is deceased. There are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Roger grew up in Delia, Kansas and graduated from Washburn University. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Roger spent most of his career in furniture sales for Ed Marling’s and Lewis Furniture Stores. Prior to retirement, he served as a guide and then Assistant Sargant of Arms for the Kansas Senate at the Kansas State Capitol. Survived by one brother, Laverne Zlatnik and sisters, Rosella Hoglund and Mary Alice Huntsman. Memorial Service will be held October 9 at 1:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church. | 11110 |  | Obituary- Zlatnik, Velma 1 Velma F. Zlatnik Delia-Velma F. Zlatnik died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the Midland Hospice House following a courageous battle against leukemia. She was born November 27, 1928 near Delia, the daughter of Evan and Louise Hayden Lewelling. She attended High Prairie Grade School and graduated from Soldier Rural High School in 1946. Velma attended Kansas State College and obtained an emergency certificate and taught school at Cedar Hill and High Prairie in Jackson county and Forest Bluff in Shawnee county. Mrs. Zlatnik worked for USD # 321 for 27 years as a cook-manager and later as a para in the Interrelated Resource room at Rossville Grade School. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church for 59 years where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also was the church pianist for many of those years. Mrs. Zlatnik was selected as the Jackson County Extension Homemaker of the Year in 1988 while she was a member of the Delia Up & Atom Extension Unit. She was an excellent cook and was well known for her pies and breads. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Evan D. Lewelling in 1963. On August 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to J. Laverne Zlatnik. He survives on the farm where he and Velma lived all of their married life. They were the parents of three children, Mark (Linda) Zlatnik, Shell Knob, MO, Carolyn (Terry) Orozco, Topeka and Alan (Tammy) Zlatnik, Rossville; seven grandchildren, Julie (Gary) Spring, Sheila Podrebarac, Scott (Isabel) Zlatnik, Melissa (Kelly) Smith, Joe Zlatnik, Duane Zlatnik and Lexi Zlatnik; seven great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in the Delia Cemetery. Mrs. Zlatnik will lie in state Friday, December 28, 2007 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. | 11112 |  | Obituary- Zook, Edna Edna Zook Dead Edna Zook, only daughter of Frank and Daisy Zook, died April 15, 1910, at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Hawks, in this city after an illness of several weeks from scarlet fever. The end came unexpectedly, as it was said she had passed the critical stage of the disease and her symptoms bid fair for her recovery. But a sudden relapse Friday, proved too strong for her delicate condition, and in spite of tender nursing and medical attention she passed into the mystic world whose portals are death. Edna Zook was born in Rossville, Nov. 22, 1896 and was 14 years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Zook live on the farm four miles north of Rossville and Edna had been staying in town to attend school. She was in the sixth grade with Miss Turney as teacher. Edna was a member of the Friends Church by birthright, but had intimately associated herself with the Presbyterian Church and Sunday School. Owing to the contagious nature of the disease the funeral was held at the house Sunday afternoon where Rev. Lamb of the Presbyterian Church conducted a short, yet impressive, service. The afternoon was cold and blustering but the yard was full of sympathizing friends and neighbors. The interment took place in the City cemetery. | |

He was born January 19, 1874, at Republic and had lived in the Rossville community 63 years. Mr. and Mrs. Zook moved to a home in Topeka about three years ago. He is a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church and the Rossville Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Daisy Zook; and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Gano, Concordia; and Mrs. Carl Steele, Prescott, Ark. Funeral services will be at 2 pm at the Rossville Presbyterian Church with burial in Rossville cemetery. | |
| 11115 |  | Obituary- Zook, Mrs. W.R. Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Zook were called to Concordia, Kansas last Sunday by the death of his mother, Mrs. W.R. Zook, which occurred at 8 o'clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Zook was past 75 years of age. She had been in poor health for about a year and for the past 16 weeks was bedfast. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and the body interred in the Concordia cemetery. Two sons, J.F. of Rossville and Aaron, of Cook, Neb., and three daughters, Mrs. Carl Steele, Sterling, Kansas, Mrs. John Gano, and Mrs. Fred Snook, both of Concordia, survive. Mr. and Mrs. Zook returned home Tuesday night. | |

She was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Topeka, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Gibler Hartman, and lived in Topeka all her Life. Mrs. Burghart was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was married to George John Burghart Feb. 3, 1936, at Topeka. He died Sept. 21, 1961. Survivors include seven daughters, Pat Taylor and Marilyn McLaughlin, both of Kansas City, Mo. Theresa Griffiths, Delia (Judy Hall's sister-in-law), Ginny Trygg, Linda Gilchrist and Chris Gassen, all of Topeka, and Rita Greene, San Antonio, Texas; three sons, John Burghart and Rick Burghart, both of Topeka, and George Burghart III, Valley Falls; two sisters, Eva Marlow, Derby, and Mildred Love, Forest Park, Ga.; 19 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 .m. Tues. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Burghart will like in state from 2 until 9 pm. She died March 6 at a Temple City, Calif., nursing home. She was born Nov. 29, 1895, north of Delia, the daughter of John T. and Nettie E. King Isnogle. Mrs. Carter was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Telephone Pioneers of America and Beverly Court Garden Club, all at Topeka. Her husband, David E. Carter, died March 8, 1968. A son, John Merlin Richardson, died Jan. 17, 1975. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Marne, Temple City, Calif.; a stepson, Marvin Carter, Arcadia, Calif.; a grandson; three step grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday at Parker-Price Mortuary. | |

Mrs. Casey had worked for Hallmark Cards in Topeka for 29 years. She was born Dec. 5, 1954, in Leavenworth, the daughter of William T. and Ceora LaVerne Ferrell Meyer. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School and attended Highland Community College. She moved to Rossville in 1985. She married Robert Duane Casey on Jan. 3,1981, in Oskaloosa. He survives. Other survivors include two daughter, Heather Lynn Adams, Rossville, and Megan Delores Casey, at home; two sons, Kyle Robert Casey, at home, and Brent A. Adams, Rossville; her mother, C. LaVerne Meyer, Oskaloosa; five sisters, Helen Sands and Martha Massey, both of Meriden, Nancy Mills, Oskaloosa, and June Schiffelbien and Becky Brewer, both of Topeka; and two brothers, William L. Meyer, Oskaloosa, and Mark Meyer, Kansas City. Services will be at Rossville Christian Church. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery. | 11120 |  | Obiutary- O'Shaughnessy, John Jack O'Shaughnessy Dead J.J. O'Shaughnessy, 53, died in Albuquerque, N.M., last Thursday night. For several years he had been in the grocery business at 401 Lafayette street, in Topeka. Funeral services were in Conwell's North Topeka chapel at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial was in Topeka cemetery. Mr. O'Shaughnessy is survived by his son Jack jr. He was well known in Rossville through his numerous visits here at the home of his wife's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Miller. Mrs. O'Shaughnessy passed away a year or two ago.
