Donna Boatwright, 90, recently of Chanute, KS, died on May 20th, 2017.
Born in 1927 near Bennington, KS, Donna and her late husband, Dr. Virgil Boatwright, Superintendent of Schools for St. Marys and Basehor, lived in the St. Marys, Basehor, Wamego and Kansas City areas for almost 60 years. Donna remained in the area for another 30 after Virgil's death.
They had 4 children, 15 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Donna's family and friends is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 4, at the pavilion in City Park in Rossville, Kansas. A life lunch will be served. Casual dress. Children welcome.

 | Obituary- Boatwright, Virgil 1 DR. VIRGIL E. BOATWRIGHT
Dr. Virgil E. Boatwright, 58, Route 3, Tonganoxie, died Monday, July 28, 1986, at a Kansas City, Ks. hospital after he suffered a heart attack.
Dr. Boatwright was superintendent of Basehor-Linwood Unified School District the past two years. He previously was superintendent of schools at Russell and Kaw Valley Unified School District 321.
He had taught in high schools in Smith Center, Shawnee Mission district and Washington district in Kansas City. He also was science and mathematics coordinator in the Washington district schools. He was president of Midwest Institute at Eureka.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born August 14, 1927, at Valley Center, the son of Norval and Dessie Merrifield Boatwright. He was graduated from Emporia State Teachers College with bachelor, master and specialist degrees and received his doctorate in education administration from the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
Dr. Boatwright was a member and deacon of Whitechurch Christian Church in the Whitechurch community near Kansas City, Ks. He was a 4-H Club leader in Greenwood and Wyandotte counties and a Boy Scout committeeman.
He was a former member of the Lions Club at Delia, St. Marys Chamber of Commerce, and Eureka Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He was a former Kiwanis Club officer and member of the Wyandotte County Extension Council board of directors.
He also was a member of the Kansas Association of School Administrators, United School Administrators of Kansas, Kansas Association of Biology Teachers of which he was president in 1963 and 1967, and the National Science Teachers Association.
Dr. Boatwright was a member of the Kansas Association of Teachers of Science, regional representative of Phi Delta Kappa honorary society in education, member of the audit committee of the Kansas Association of School Administrators, and a member of the American Association for Higher Education Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and Kansas Academy of Science.
He was married to Donna J. McVaugh December 28, 1947, at Riley. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Gray, Fort Worth, Tex.; three sons, Bruce Boatwright, Albuquerque, N.M., and Theodore Boatwright and Douglas Boatwright, both of Wamego; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Evans, Hays; two brothers, Gerald Boatwright, Danbury, Conn.; and 10 grandchildren
Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Baptist Church in Basehor. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Thursday in Riley Cemetery at Riley. Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie as in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Virgil Boatwright Science Scholarship Fund and sent in care of the funeral home, Tonganoxie, Ks. 66086.

dies unexpectedly of heart attack
Virgil Boatwright, Basehor-Linwood superintendent of schools, died suddenly Monday of a heart attack. Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie is in charge of the arrangements which are pending.
Mr. Boatwright was born in Valley Center where he completed school through the sixth grade. The family then moved to Sumner County near Anson. He graduated in 1945 from Wellington High School in the Anson area and joined the Navy for a year.
Mr. Boatwright began college at Kansas State University and transferred to Emporia State Teacher’s College when he was a junior. After he received his bachelor’s degree, he taught bacteriology at Emporia for a year while he completed his master’s degree.
He worked as a development engineer with Western Electric for 18 months in Chicago. He returned to Kansas in 1957 as a math and science teacher in the Washington School District in Kansas City, Kan. where he remained until 1967.
During his tenure in the Washington School District, Mr. Boatwright became the head of the science department and district administrator/coordinator of science and math. He received his Ph.D. in education during this time from the University of Kansas.
He became the director of the Midwest Institute of Business Administration, Eureka, Kan. for a brief time.
Mr. Boatwright was the superintendent of Kaw Valley USD 432 for ten years and of the school district at Russell for three years. He became the superintendent of Basehor-Linwood schools in 1983 and was currently active in that post.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of the home; three sons, and a daughter.
Mr. Boatwright was active in area civic and community affairs. He served as the first secretary of the Basehor Chamber of Commerce and continued to be active on the board.

 | Obituary- Boeckman, Steven Steven Loren Boeckman, 65, of Wetmore, KS, passed away peacefully December 1, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. He was born October 1, 1952 in Seneca, KS the son of Raymond and Lucille (Deters) Boeckman. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1970 and attended Kansas State University. He was an active member of the Wetmore Men’s Club, worked as a welder most of his life, and enjoyed raising cattle. He met his wife, Marilyn, on a blind date and they married eight months later. Steve and Marilyn (Lister) Boeckman eloped on April 10, 1975 and married again in the Assumption Catholic Church on August 9th of that same year.
He was preceded in death by parents Raymond and Lucille Boeckman and his brother, Dennis Boeckman.
Steve will forever be remembered by his wife, Marilyn, of the home, his son Matthew (Julie) Boeckman of Goff, KS, and his daughters Leigh Ann (Tony) Schultejans, of Wetmore, KS and Lindsey (Kenton) Dreiling of Rossville, KS, as well as his 8 grandchildren (with one on the way)- Dustin, Dalton, Madison, Weston, Hayden, Whitney, Lillian, and Katelyn. Survivors also include two brothers, Daryl and Kevin Boeckman.
One of the greatest joys in Steve’s life was spoiling his grandchildren. His cabinets were always stocked with Oreos, pop, ice cream, and chocolate milk. Steve also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and a good debate around his kitchen table.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. A rosary will be prayed at 1:15 prior to the service. A reception in the St. James Hall will follow immediately after. The family requests guests to bring photos of Steve to share memories at the reception. The reception will be a time to celebrate his wonderful life in the way he celebrated every day.

Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Robbie Duane Boettcher of Rossville, Kansas, who passed away at the age of 57, on September 19, 2023
He was predeceased by his mother Connie Boettcher; his step-father Mark Siefer; and his brothers, Ronnie "Paco" Boettcher and Christopher Siefer. He is survived by his father Vernon Boettcher; his brother David Siefer (Jenny); his niece Lexi Siefer; and his nephew Damon Siefer.

 | Obituary- Boettcher, Ronald Ronald E. Boettcher
Ronald E. Boettcher, "Paco", 52, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016. He was born August 19, 1964 in Topeka, the son of Vernon and Connie (Penrod) (Siefer) Boettcher. Ron graduated from Topeka High School. He later served in the United States Air Force. He was an avid reader and loved to play chess.
He is survived by three brothers, David Siefer and wife Jen of Topeka, Chris Siefer of Topeka and Robbie Boettcher of Rossville; a niece, Lexi Siefer; and a nephew, Damon Siefer.

Arvilla Marie Boling, 102, of Soldier, KS passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at her daughter’s home with family by her side. She was born May 10. 1913 on a farm near Delia, KS, the daughter of John Alfred and Rosa Lulu (Sumner) Patterson.
Arvilla graduated from Emmett High School in 1931. She was a lifelong member of the Delia, Emmett and St. Clere communities. She was a homemaker and farmwife. Arvilla helped her husband, Gilbert, on the family farm and dairy for many years.
She married Gilbert Lemoine Boling on October 6, 1937 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1980. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Gladys; an infant brother, Ralph, a toddler brother, Harold and a brother, Orville.
Survivors include 2 sons, Delbert Boling (Rosealee) of Hoyt, KS and Donald Boling (Jean) of Soldier, KS; a daughter, Delores A. “Dori” Harris (Butch) of Soldier, KS; 7 grandchildren Scott Boling, Michelle Lewis (Matt), Donna Ashcraft (Dennis), Ronda Lang (John), Kristen Felbush (Levi), Kayla Schreiber (Garrett) and Kelsey Pagel (Matt); 5 great grandchildren, Amanda, Jess, Trevor, Bailey and Autumn and 1 great-great-granddaughter, Grace.

Mark Alan Bolley, 56, of Delia, KS passed away July 25, 2008 due to a vehicle accident. He was born July 7, 1952 in Topeka, KS the son of Donald and Betty (Fay) Bolley.
Mark graduated from Topeka West High School in 1970. He attended Washburn University and received his Master Electrical license following. He was a co-founder with Craig Cooper of Current Electric Corp. He enjoyed playing bass guitar in the band Cheap-n-Legal. Mark loved spending time on his farm with his beagles Ruby, Buddy and Maggie watching westerns. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and doing projects with his children. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Mark is survived by his mother, brother, Mike (Jeanne) and Jim (Cris) Bolley, fiancée Jo Ann Long, son Scott (Bobbi) Bolley, daughter Lea Bolley - Huntington, mother of his children Sue Bolley, grandson Mica Bolley, nieces, Lindsey (Will) Renfro, Erin (Matt) Chinworth and Jamie Bolley.

 | Obituary- Bolton, Wesley Wesley S. Bolton, a former pioneer resident of Wabaunsee County died in Denver, Friday, January 26th.
He was born in Pennsylvania, May 15, 1858. He came to Kansas with his family in 1865 settling on a farm north of Paxico. He was married to Louise Weisser, Oct. 25, 1885. Mr. Bolton was engaged in the general merchandise and grain business at Paxico for many years and later was manager of the Rossville Co-operative Elevator at Rossville, remaining a resident of Kansas for about sixty two years.
Mr. and Mrs. Bolton moved to Denver in 1927, where they resided until Mrs. Bolton’s death in 1943. For the past five years Mr. Bolton has made his home with his son, Arthur and wife, near Grand Lake, Colorado. , He is survived by two sons, Oscar W. Bolton of 1323 South Humboldt, Denver, Arthur D. Bolton of Granby, Colo., a brother T. B. Bolton, of Frankfort, Kansas and a sister Mrs. Annie Withgott of Woodward, Oklahoma. He is also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 | Obituary- Bond, Agnes Agnes E Thomas was born November, 27th, 1842 at Centerville, Tyler County, West Vir¬ginia, died at her home near Ross¬ville, April 1st, 1915, age 72 years 4 months and 4 days. She united with the United Brethren church in the year 1857.
She was married to John A. Bond, September 6th, 1860, at Centerville, West Virginia. To this union there was born two children, Lydia J. Emert and Morris Bond.
She with her husband and children came to Kansas in Nov. 1868 and resided here until her death.
The funeral services were held at the home west of Rossville, Saturday, April 3rd at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. J. K. Miller of Topeka, assisted by Rev. Ward of Rossville. She is survived by her husband, two children and three brothers, Joseph, Peter and John Thomas of West Virginia.

 | Obituary- Bond, Barbara BARBARA F. BOND
Barbara F. Brashear Bond passed away at her home in St. Marys, Kan., Wednesday, December 11, 1946.
She was born at Frederick, Md. January 27, 1866. At the age of 2 years she removed to Kansas with her parents, the late Samuel E. Bra¬shear and Matilda Brashear, who set¬tled at Westmoreland, Kansas, dur¬ing the year 1868.
On January 22, 1884, she was mar¬ried to the late Walter C. Bond and settled on a farm in the west part of Rossville Township, where they lived until the death of Mr. Bond on October 13, 1925.
To this union five children were born, Mrs. John T. Glynn of Salina Kansas; Mrs. Charles Zemek and W. H. Bond, of St. Marys, Kansas; Ver¬non Bond of Monroe, Mich., and Sam A. Bond of Philadelphia, Fa. Seven grandchildren and four great-grand¬children survive her. All of the child¬ren attended the funeral at St. Marys, Kan., December 14, at the Congrega¬tional Church. The Rev. Wm. Ran¬dles conducted the service. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Messrs. Clarence Yocum, Charles Wallace, Kendell Al¬len, John Pearl, Maurice Coleman and Patrick Murry.

 | Obituary- Bond, Elida Elida Bond
Death called for a second time within a week on residents in a block on Spruce street, when Mrs. Elida Bond passed away Wednesday shortly before noon. She was brought home Sunday from a Topeka hospital.
Her health had been failing for several months and a long stay in the hospital failed to restore her health.
Mrs. Bond was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shearer had been a resident in this community for sixty years. She came here with her parents at the age of three. She was born at Port Huron, Michigan, August 22, 1873.
Surviving her are an only daughter, Irene, and a sister, Mrs. Morris Bond of this city.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the home in Rossville and burial will vein Rossville cemetery.

Elida Bond - died June 16, 1937. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cless and son Gene, of Hutchinson, arrived in Rossville, Friday, to attend the funeral of Mrs. Elida Bond. Mr. Cless returned Friday evening. Mrs. Cless and Gene remained for a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Cless. June 24, 1937.

ETTA MEDORA BOND
Mrs. Morris Band passed away about 7 o'clock Sunday morning, June 27, at her home. Her passing was sudden and unexpected despite an illness off and on the past fif¬teen years, and in the last few months bedfast from a broken hip.
Through all these years she had
the best medical attention that money could provide, a devoted and patient attention from her husband that has been noteworthy for its constancy.
Mrs. Bond, whose only sister pre-ceded her in death only ten days previous, was the elder daughter of the late Peter and Medora Ackley Shearer. She had been a resident here since 1876. Her birth was Port Huron, Michigan, where she was born May 23, 1870.
She was married to Morris Bond, January 13, 1892. She united with the Presbyterian church of Rossville in 1896.
Surviving her are her husband, Morris Bond, three nieces, Ethelyn Ferguson, Edna Pearl and Irene Bond, one nephew, Clarence Emert all of Rossville.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon 2:30 o’clock, conducted by the Reverend H. L. Nelson. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. A.B. Jamieson, Mrs. Ruth Hesse, Mrs. C.E. Gresser and Mrs. Peter Navarre.
Pall bearers were, C.E. Gresser, Roy McClain, Martin Whearty, Fred McCollough, Gus Kassebaum and J.C. Bradley.
Burial was in Rossville cemetery.

 | Obituary- Bond, John Death Claims Another Pioneer
John Bond, aged 87 years, 11 months and 5 days died Wednesday at noon while sitting at the dinner table at his home west of Rossville. Mrs. Annis Bond, who has been taking care of Mr. Bond found him in an unconscious state a few minutes after stepping from the house. The children were called immediately, but arrived after he had passed away.
The funeral was held today at the home conducted by Rev. Basquin of the Methodist church.
John Alexander Bond was a native of Tyler County, W. Va., where he was born May 20, 1834. On September 6, 1860 he was married to Miss Agnes Thomas, at Centerville, W. Va. To this union two children were born. In the fall of 1868 he came to Kansas with his family first locating northeast of Topeka and a year later moved two miles north West of Topeka. In the next five years he moved two times to different locations near Topeka and then purchased a farm 1 1/2 miles east of Rossville now occupied by the Walter Jones family. He remained there four years, and moved west of Rossville in 1876 to the farm he continued to occupy until his death. Mrs. Bond died April 1, 1915.
He is survived by his children, his son Morris Bond and daughter. Mrs. T. H. Emert of Rossville; two sisters and one brother Mrs. Mary Kistler of Elmont, Mrs. Whitcotton of Oak Creek, Colo., and Benjamin Bond of Portland, Ore.

 | Obituary- Bond, Margaret MISS MARGARET EOND
Funeral services for Miss Margaret Bond of 1350 Wayne, who died Satur¬day morning in Topeka hospital following a long illness, were held at 1:30 p. m. Monday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with the Rev. Coghill, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in charge. Mr. C. J. McKee was the soloist.
Burial was in the Rossville cemetery
Miss Bond was born near Rossville where she lived on what now is the McMahan farm. She came to town with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm Bond, and they lived in what is now the Esther Sebring home, where she lived until 1926 when she went to Topeka. She had been a member of Rossville Presby¬terian church since 1889.
She leaves two sisters, Mrs. J. E. James and Mrs. J. W. Jamieson of To¬peka, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Marguerite V. Bond, 96, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at the St. Marys Manor in St. Marys.
She was born January 19, 1923 at Emmett the daughter of James and Justina Coon Clark. She grew up in the Emmett community.
Mrs. Bond was a homemaker and a farm wife. She lived in the Delia community many years.
On November 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Oren R. Bond at Holton. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1991. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Francis and George Clark; two sisters, Monica Doll and Agnes Stein.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Robert Bond, Kingsville, MO. and Ronald Bond, Topeka; her daughter, Shirley Voight, Memphis, TN; a brother, John Clark, Emporia; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Interment will be in St. Clere Cemetery, Emmett. Mrs. Bond will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time Friday at the funeral home. DELIA — Oren R. Bond, 77, Delia, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 1991, at a To¬peka hospital.
Mr. Bond was a farmer.
He was born Jan. 11, 1914, at Do¬ver, the son of James R. and Eliza¬beth Johnston Bond. He was gradu¬ated from Emmett High School in 1932.
Mr. Bond was a member of Emmett Senior Citizens.
He was married to Marguerite Clark Nov. 21, 1941, at Holton. She sur¬vives.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert Bond, Kingsville, Mo., and Ronald Bond, Topeka; a daughter, Shirley Charlene Cunningham, Millington, Tenn.; a brother, Hubert Bond, Emmett; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in St. Clere Cemetery north of Emmett. Mr. Bond will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.

 | Obituary- Bond, Walter 1 Walter Clay Bond
Walter C. Bond died about 3:00 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home in the west part of the township from a severe attack of convulsions which developed early the previous evening.
Mr. Bond had been progressing in satisfactory manner toward recovery from a paralytic stroke suffered several months ago while he was residing in St. Marys. His sudden turn for the worse and subsequent death was a surprise to his friends over the community.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon in the Rossville Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. H.L. Nelson of Topeka.
The body was interred in the Rossville cemetery where the Masonic burial ritual was exemplified by Hesperian Lodge No. 112. The pallbearers were: Messrs. A.L. Ruff, Sherman James, and C.E. Van Vleck, of Rossville; T.J. Byrnes, E.H. Bushey and Mr. Collins, of St. Marys.
In the death of Mr. Bond, the second in the Bond family in about two months, Rossville has lost another of her good substantial citizens, who has lived here since early boyhood and helped develop the farm on which he died from a raw state to its present high state of cultivation.
He was a native of Middlebourne, West Virginia, where he was born February 18, 1863. At the date of his death he was 62 years, 7 months and 23 days old. |

 | Obituary- Bond, William Wm. Bond Passes Over
Mr. Wm. Bond, a resident of Shawnee county and Rossville for 49 years, died last Sunday at 5 p.m. at his home in Rossville after being an invalid for the past six years, the last nine months of which he was practically helpless and under the care of a special nurse. All the children were at his bedside when death came.
Funeral services were held Wed-nesday, September 28, at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. H L. Nelson, of Topeka, who was assisted by Rev. Brooks. Interment was made in Rossville cemetery. The pallbearers were, Mr. I. B. Alter, Mr. Chas. Vorhies, Mr. Kent Burrell, Mr. John Kesler, Mr. John Reid, Mr. W. V. Hook
William Bond was born in Tyler county, W. Va., March 18, 1836, being 85 years, 6 mouths and 15 days old at his death. He was married to Miss Elizabeth J. Bond, February 28, 1861 in Tyler county. In 1869 Mr. Bond with his family came to Kansas and remained in Topeka 7 months. In the spring of 1870 he moved to Lyon county and located seven miles north of Emporia, remain¬ing there about 18 months when he returned to Shawnee county, 2 miles north of Topeka and farmed one year. He then moved one mile east of Rossville where he lived one year, moving again to a farm 2 miles southwest of Rossville to remain two years and then to the present Bond home farm west of Rossville in the year of 1876.
Thrift and hard work were the foundation of his prosperity and when Mr. Bond retired in 1905 and moved to Rossville, he was rated one of the most substantial citizens of Rossville township. For many years he was the president of the Rossville State Bank.
In 1907 Mr. Bond satisfied a craving to see some of the world by taking a trip to Europe. In company of Mr. I.H. Hallum of Abilene, they toured in England Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and France and were gone about three months. A portion of the return trip Mr. Bond spent in his old home in Tyler county.
Mr. Bond is survived by his widow and their five children, Mr. Walter Bond of St. Marys, Mr. Henry Bond of Rossville, Mrs. Mary James and Mrs. Una Jamieson, of Topeka Miss Margaret Bond of the home address, 7 grandchildren and 5 great¬grandchildren.
One brother, Mr. John Bond, of route 14, survives him.

William H. Bond, 85, was born near Rossville, Ks. December 3, 1893 and passed away at his home in Alma Wednesday, June 13, 1979.
He lived in the Rossville and St. Marys communities until 1964 when he moved to Alma.
Mr. Bond was an Army veteran of World War I in a machine gun squad with the 35th Division in France.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys, until moving to Alma when he became a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He also was a member of Hoy-Heim Post No. 178 of the American Legion, St. Marys, and of Ed Palenske Post No. 32 of the American Legion, Alma.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amelia. They were married for forty years. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jo Stattleman and Miss Margaret Ann Bond.
He was married to Gertrude Wahl; she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Amelia Flanagan, Emmett; a son, W.H. Bond, Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 37 step- grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
The rosary was at 8 p.m. Friday at Hasenback and LaMar Funeral Home in Alma, and the Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church at Alma with Father Gerald O’Shea officiating. The Ed Palenske Post No. 32 conducted the military graveside services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys.
Casket bearers were Joe Flanagan, David A. Bond, William J. Bond, Michael Flanagan, Alan Freeby and Robert Freeby.

May 29, 1952 - Buried May 29, 1952.
William Morris Bond was born July 4, 1866, near Pennsboro, West Virginia. He came to Kansas at the age of two, and had lived in the county 84 years. He was the son of the late John A. and Agnes Bond. He had one sister, Lydia Bond Emert who preceded him in death.
He was Married to Etta M. Shearer in January, 1892. She died June 27, 1937, after an illness of 20 years, during which time he cared for her faithfully and tenderly.
Mr. Bond was by occupation a farmer. He was also one of the founders of the Peoples State Bank in Rossville, was its first vice-president, and later its president, a position which he held at the time of his death on May 27, 1952.
His survivors include: Mrs. Ethelyn Ferguson, Mrs. Edna Perl and Mrs. Irene Campbell, nieces: Clarence L. Emert, nephew; Winifred McClain, Henrietta Minnis, Ethelyn Lynde, Joan Emert and Janet Louise Campbell, grandnieces; Kenneth Pearl, and Arthur Lee Campbell, grandnephews; several great-grandnieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in the Rossville Methodist church today, Thursday, May 29. Rev. Don L. Jones pastor, officiated and music was furnished by Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey, accompanied by Mrs. Lula Rachel Hill.
Honorary Pallbearers were C. E. Gresser, Gus Kassebaum, Walter Cless, Fred McCollough, Henry Lambotte, Elmer Stewart and E. G. Griswold of Rossville, and Jess Harrington, of Silver Lake.
Active Pallbearers were Homer Reid, Joe Gresser, Herbert Syring, Bennie Dick, Martin Whearty, and Roy McClain of Rossville.
Mr. Bond by thrift and advanced cultural practices had accumulated nearly 750 acres of high productive land in Rossville township. He was noted as a shrewd business man and his advice was sought by many.
Since his removal to town in the Fall of 1911 he had managed his extensive land interests from Rossville and served in many civic capacities.
His death came only a week after his final illness, although he had rarely been ill during his long life. |

Helen L. Bonjour, 87, formerly of Topeka, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Topeka.
Mrs. Bonjour worked for the Kansas State Employment Service from 1954 until she retired.
She was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Rossville, to Floyd Banta and Mertie Cochren. She moved to Topeka in 1951.
Mrs. Bonjour was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Topeka Chapter No. 462 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She married Lester M. Bonjour. He survives.
Other survivors include a son, Marvin Bon-jour, Topeka; a sister, Lola Landis, Topeka; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thurs¬day at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.

He was born Sept. 23, 1910, at Onaga and lived in Topeka since 1951. He owned and oper¬ated the Bonjour Security Serv¬ice.
He was a member of Home Lodge No. 89, AF&AM, at Centralia, Scottish Rite bodies in Topeka, and Topeka Chapter No. 462, Order of Eastern Star.
He was married to Helen Banta in 1933. She survives.

Leamon owned and operated Boone Office Machines with his wife Virginia from 1970 until they retired. He had worked for Remington Rand and Crane Office Machines. He was a member of Capital City Aerie 439 FOE Topeka.
Mr. Boone was preceded in death by a son, John on April 10, 2002. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons.
On June 21, 1944, he was united in marriage to Virginia Gillreath at Lawrence. They had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. She survives of the home.

James C. “Jim” Booth, 77, Delia passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Community Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born May 19, 1939 at Emporia, the son of Russell and Elsie Marie Shelinbarger Booth. Jim was raised in Osage County south of Osage City on the Maris Des Cygens River. After graduating from Lebo High School he attended Kansas State and Emporia State Universities.
Jim became a full time farmer a partnership operation with his father and brother. He moved his family to Jackson County in 1970 due to the Federal Corp of Engineers purchase of ground for the Melvern Federal Reservoir. Jim along with his wife Jo and two sons operate J and J Farms west of Mayetta.
He was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church. Jim joined the Lebo Masonic Lodge in 1961 and transferred his membership to the Delia Lodge. He was a member of the Kansas Farm Bureau and served on many committees and held many offices. He was a 4-H community leader and had coached Baseball. He was currently serving on the Jackson County Rural Water Board No. 3 and the Kaw Valley Electric Election Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
On March 25, 1961 he was united in marriage to Jo Anne Whittington at the Osage City Presbyterian Church. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his four sons, Jeffery (Cherri) Booth, Delia, Joe (Tonia) Booth, Mayetta, Jacy (Susan) Booth, Parkville, MO. and J.R. (Molly) Booth, Clinton, MO; his brother, Milton (Shirley) Booth, Emporia; 11 grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Services were Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Graveside services followed at the Arvonia Cemetery south of Osage City.

Cody Alan Lambotte, 38, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at his home in Rossville. Cody was born May 22, 1985, the son of Todd A. and Alaina J. Rake Lambotte. Cody graduated from Rossville High School in 2003 and attended Labette County Community College and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Cody was a Physical Education Teacher for USD No. 321. He was the Jr. High and High School Wrestling Coach and several of his wrestlers were State Champs including his brother Tagen. He was the football coach for the Jr. High. Cody was a summer coach for Team Kansas USA Wrestling. Cody was always willing to help the youth to become the best that they could be. He worked for the City of Rossville in the summers. Cody was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and had served as a CCD teacher.
Cody was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Norman Lambotte and Howard “Jim” Rake.
Survivors include his son Lincoln; his parents, Todd Lambotte and Alaina Rake Lambotte; a brother, Tagen (Rachel) Lambotte, his sister, Casey (Chris) Graves; his nieces and nephews, Cole and Callie, Elijah Cody “Eli”, Chloe and Jacob; Grandmothers, Betty Lambotte, Nita Rake and Ruth Day; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. The family received friends from 5:00 until the rosary at 7:00 Friday at the church.

Pamela "PJ" Berkey, 78, died at her home in Kansas City, MO on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
A Celebration of life was held on 8/26/23 from 1:30-3:30 at 1801 McGee St, suite 100 KC, Mo 74108.
PJ was born on May 20, 1945, in Topeka, KS to Donald and Mary Jane (Nicholson) Berkey. She graduated from K-state with a communications degree and then went on to get a Masters in mass communications. Professionally, she worked in advertising and eventually landed in University Development at Baker University and The Kansas City Art Institute.
When she became a mother, she became not only a mother, but a friend, confidant, sounding board and supporter to so many more than just her children. Our house was always a safe space where you could get a delicious meal and an open ear. She was always the biggest supporter of her children and grandchildren, and dedicated her life to us.
Her strength, loyalty, perseverance, independence, kindness, compassion, open-mindedness, unfailing love, and sage advice live on in all the lives she touched. She leaves a palpable emptiness in all our lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jane and Donald, her brother Curtis, and her son-in-law Jason.
Survivors include her children, Tiffany Shepherd (Barry), Shana Coppedge (Dec-Jason) and Erick Sibert (Kim); her grandchildren Cheyanna, Riley, Carter, Piper, and Weston.

Cameron L. Renner, 20, died Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 17, 2002, in Topeka, the son of Marty Allen and Katie L. Paine Renner. He was raised in Rossville and Topeka and graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 2021.
Mr. Renner had worked as a roofer in construction.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marty; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Renner; and his maternal grandmother, Terry Paine.
Survivors include his mother, Katie Paine and husband Travis Quillin, Topeka; two brothers, Tanner and Trey Renner, both of Topeka; a sister, Ashtyne Renner, Topeka; grandfather, Bill Renner, Osage City; grandmother, Leslie Paine, Topeka; aunts and uncle, Teri Leigh Boulet, Morgan Naomi Paine and Penny Renner, all of Topeka, and Yancy Joseph Levi Paine, Kansas City; and several cousins.

Eudora J. McQueen, 90, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, from injuries she received in an auto accident.
She was born in rural Jackson County on April 15, 1932, the daughter of Emery E. and Bertha R. (Dibbern) Eakin. Eudora graduated from Delia High School in 1950.
Eudora and her husband Harold were farmers and ranchers. She was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and the UPW. She was very active in her community and church. Eudora worked for the United States Postal Service and USD #321 for several years. She served on the election board for many years. She was recently elected to serve as the clerk of Adrian Township and the Republican Committee Woman for the township. Eudora was a member of the Monday quilt group that started as the Presbyterian women and later ladies of the community. She was a crafter and had made over a hundred quilts for family, friends, and the Delia Bazaar. She helped with concessions at many auctions. Eudora was a member of Delia Pride and a past member of the Eastern Star.
Eudora Eakin and Harold McQueen were united in marriage on October 18, 1952, at the Circleville Christian Church. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2009. Eudora was also preceded by her parents, her twin brother Edward Eakin, and her sister Ivaleu Miller.
Survivors include her sons, Lee (Patty) McQueen, Kearney, NE and Glen McQueen, Delia; her daughter, Denise (Paul) Virgadamo, New Port Richey, FL; three grandchildren, Megan McQueen, Kansas City, MO, Kurt McQueen, Benton, AR, and Gwen McKay, Oakland, CA.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the Delia Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the Delia Cemetery.

Janice K. McGranahan

Janice K. McGranahan, 82, St. Marys, passed away April 17, 2023, at Oakley Place in Rossville.
She was born on October 26, 1940, in Beloit, Kansas. Jan was the only child of Lavere and Francis LaCoe.
Janice LaCoe and Richard Magette were married on June 9, 1960. Richard passed away on May 26, 1973. Jan and Donald V. McGranahan were united in marriage on March 24, 1977. Don passed away on February 1, 2022. Jan was also preceded in death by her father, mother, and step-father Keith Davis, her sons Damon and Shannon Magette, and step-grandson Jared Cheek.
Jan is survived by her son Brandon (Joan) Magette, St. Marys; step-children Debra Kubes, Ness City, Trudy Padilla, Carbondale, Donald (LeAnn) McGranahan, Topeka, and Bruce McGranahan, Wamego, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Per Jan’s request, there will be no services. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Jeffery J. “Jeff” Booth

Jeffery J. “Jeff” Booth, 61, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at a Topeka hospital.
Jeff was born December 13, 1961, in Emporia, the son of James C. and Jo Anne (Whittington) Booth. Jeff lived in the Lebo community until 1970 when he and his family moved to the Delia community after Melvern Lake took their farm. Jeff attended Delia Grade School and graduated from Rossville High School in 1980. He then attended Vo-Ag School. On November 26, 1983, he was united in marriage to Tracy Peters in Iola, and they later divorced.
Jeff worked on the family farm and then became a MoorMan Feed Salesman. He moved to the Emporia community and worked at IBP, Modine Manufacturing, Debauge Distribution, and Scheller’s Lawn and Landscape. His greatest joy was managing the TRYSA Soccer Complex in Emporia where he was also a referee and spent many years as an active board member. Jeff was inducted to the KSYSA hall of fame and received a Lifetime achievement award for volunteer and referee. Jeff returned to operate the family farm in Delia when his father became ill. He was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church. He was appointed to fill his father’s position on the Jackson County Rural Water District #3 and was re-elected several times, and was currently the vice president.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, James Booth.
Survivors include his mother, Jo Anne Booth, Delia; three daughters, Brandie Booth, San Francisco, CA; Brittney Booth, Prairie Village, KS, and Brailee Turner, Seattle, WA; three brothers, Joe (Tonia) Booth, Mayetta, Jacy (Susan) Booth, Parkville, MO, and J.R. (Molly) Booth, Clinton, MO, 12 nieces and nephews, and one great nephew.
Memorial services were Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Delia Presbyterian Church.

Russell Booth, 95, Osage City, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his home in Osage City.
He was born October 3, 1907, in Arvonia, the son of Joseph Colter and Alice Zimmerman Booth. He graduated from Lebo High School in 1926.
Mr. Booth was a farmer and stockman at Arvonia until moving to Osage City in 1965.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Lions Club, both in Osage City. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 152 AF&AM and the Order of the Eastern Star at Lebo.
On May 8, 1938, he married Elsie Marie Shelinbarger in Arvonia. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Milton R. Booth, Emporia, and James C. Booth, Delia; six grand¬children; and 11 great-grandchildren.
His service was at 10 a.m. Satur¬day at the United Methodist Church in Osage City. Burial was in the Ar¬vonia Cemetery. Relatives and friends met from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crable VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City.

Emmett -- Joyie Lee Bostelmann, 71, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at her home near Emmett.
She was born Dec. 30, 1942 at Onaga, the daughter of Garnett and Margaret E. Wells Hladky. She attended St. Clere and Emmett schools and resided in the Emmett community most of her life.
Joyle worked at American Linen in Topeka for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, being outside, collecting M & M’s and Denim Days. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joyce: a sister, Judy.
On Dec. 16, 1977 she was united in marriage to Rolland “Bud” Bostelmann at Emmett. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Karl Edward (Tracy) Thompson, Maple Hill, a daughter, April Inez (Jeremy) Hendricks, Emmett; a sister, Joan Henneke, Topeka; two brothers, James Hladky, Abilene and Johnny Hladky, St. Marys; three grandchildren, Jayna Lynn Thompson, Destiny Marie Lee Pulliam and Brady Edward Pulliam; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. at Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. The Family received friends on Friday, Nov. 7 at the funeral home.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Verschelden Funeral Home for Carl Raymond Boswell, 79, Delia, who died Tuesday in a Topeka hospital after a short illness.
The Revererd Dwight Seneker and the Reverend Clifton Kruse officiated. Vocalist was Mary Jane Handley. She was accompanied by Marguerite Williams.
He was born February 4, 1894, in Joplin, Mo.
Mr. Boswell was married in Sapulpa, Okla., in 1924, to Gladys Moser; they lived between Yale and Oilton in Oklahoma until 1950. They then moved to the Onaga-Delia communities. She survives.
He was a rancher and stockman. Mr. Boswell was a member of IOOF Lodge No. 234, Onaga, and Oilton United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include four sons, Raymond Boswell, Cedarvale, Lester Boswell, Cheyenne Wells, Colo., LaVerne Boswell, and C. A. Boswell, both of Onaga; a daughter, Mrs. Vera Clark, Bel Air, Md.; a brother, Walter G. Boswell, Sun City, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Grace Griem, Coldwater; 19 grandchildren and 7 great grand-children; 4 daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Leanneaus McKinley Bottom, 84, Sil¬ver Lake, formerly of 715 Forest, died Tuesday at a Topeka hospital.
He was born Nov. 3, 1896, at Havens¬ville, the son of Samuel and Lizzie Wells Bottom.
Mr. Bottom was a farmer in the Ha¬vensville community until 1944 when he moved to Topeka to work at the Topeka Supply Depot. He retired in 1959 and moved to Silver Lake in 1978.
He was a member of Buck’s Grove United Methodist Church west of Holton.
He was married to Verta A. McDa¬niel, Oct. 14, 1919, at Topeka. She died Oct. 28, 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Adeline Hickman, 642 Forest; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Huddleston, Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Lester Bottom, Havensvlle, and Ulyess Bottom, 1816 Mor¬rison; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Velma Joan Bottom, 56, rural Soldier, died Thursday, September 1, 1988, at a Kansas City, Ks. medical center where she was admitted after she suffered severe burns in a pro-pane explosion July 28, 1988, at her home one and one-half miles west of Soldier.
Authorities said she suffered burns over 90% of her body. She was showering when propane from a leak just outside the home's foundation seeped into the basement and ig¬nited when a sump pump started.
She was treated at an Onaga hospi-tal before she was transferred to the medical center in Kansas City.
Mrs. Bottom was a farm wife.
She was born April 13, 1932, in Jewell County, the daughter of Leo and Grace Schoen Schreiber. She liv-ed in the Soldier area most of her life.
Mrs. Bottom was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both in Soldier, and Ladies Auxiliary to Holton Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1367 at Holton.
She was married to Cecil Bottom June 4, 1950, at Netawaka. He sur-vives.
Other survivors include a daugh¬ter, Karla Peek, Soldier; a son, Terry Bottom, Soldier; a sister, Wilma Duchesneau, Soldier; a brother, Lawrence Schreiber, Soldier; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Verta A. McDaniel Bottom, 75, 715 Forest, died Friday afternoon at a Topeka hospital. She suffered a heart attack Thursday morning, and a stroke and another heart attack Friday.
She was born May 17, 1902, on a farm near Delia, and lived in Topeka since 1944. She was formerly employed at Topeka Tent and Awning, and Hollywood-Maxwell Brassiere Co.
She was a member of Bucks Grove Methodist Church near Havensville.
She married McKinley L. Bottom on Oct. 14, 1919, in Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Adeline Hickman, 642 Forest; a brother, Olen McDaniel, Winslow, Ark.; and three grandsons.

The body of Walter Bourbonnais was brought to Rossville cemetery, Wednesday afternoon for burial following a funeral service in Peebler's funeral home in North Topeka.
Mr. Bourbonnais was stricken with a heart attack, Sunday, on a Kansas City, street and died instantly, according to word received here. His relatives in Topeka including his mother, brother and sisters went down and took charge of the body.
The deceased was 48 years old. He was raised in this community but for the past 20 years had lived elsewhere mostly in Iowa. he was unmarried.

Mrs. Mary Navarre received word this week of the death of her nephew Richard Bourbannais, which occurred Tuesday of last week at his home in Shawnee, Okla. His death was due to typhoid fever, which he had been ill with about two weeks.
He is survived by his wife and an infant daughter, his parents, Hr. and Mrs. Frank Bourbonnais, two sisters and two brothers living at Dale, Okla.

EMMETT – Goldia L. Bourm, 89, Route 1, Emmett, died Saturday in a Rossville rest home where she had a been since Aug. 21.
Miss Bourm was born July 31, 1889, at Phillipsburg and lived in the Emmett community since 1900. She attended Washburn University three years and was graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College at Atchison. She in was a teacher about 50 years before she retired.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors of America, both at Emmett, Columbian Chapter No. 152, Order of Eastern Star, at Holton, and Alpha Beta Kappa teachers’ sorority.
A sister, Mrs. Fern Brown, Oskaloosa, survives. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mercer Funeral Home at Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church of the donor’s choice.

Amy Clark, third child of George Bozarth Clark and Matilda Stone Clark, was born Dec. 8, 1845, at Ireland, Lewis county, West Virginia. She was married to Jesse Sumner Bouse, January 4, I860. To this un¬ion were born six children: C. E. Bouse, Rupert, Idaho; J. S. Bouse, who died January 26, 1886; Mrs. Bertha Patton, Denison. Kan.; Dr. W. G. Bouse, Goff, Kan.; Mrs. Ethel Coombs, Santa Fe, N. M.; T. L. Bouse, Rossville, Kansas.
The family came to Kansas in 1830 and settled near Whiting, Kansas, where they resided until moving to Birmingham in 1890. In 1903 they moved to Holton, where her husband died Feb. 21, 1905. Since then she has made her home with her daugh¬ter, Mrs. Bertha Patton, Dennison, at which place she passed away Jan. 31, 1936, aged 90 years, one month and twenty-three days.
She has been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church since December, 1865.
Mrs. Bouse was a woman highly esteemed by all who knew her, a lov¬ing mother and a kind friend. To her was granted the blessing of long life with the use of all of her facul¬ties, enabling her to maintain an in¬telligent interest in the affairs of the day until the very close of her life, which came after a very short illness.
Her funeral service was held at the M. E. church in Denison, Feb. 2, and conducted by Rev. Ferguson and Rev. Tharp. A quartet com¬posed of McCloud Braum, Burgess Daniel, Mrs. Otis Humphrey, and Mrs. Walter Coleman, accompanied by Miss Doris Coleman, sang “ROCK of Ages,” “Come Ye Disconsolate” and “It is Well With My Soul.”
All of her children were present except C. E. Bouse of Idaho. Besides her children she is survived by eight grandchildren, nine great grandchild¬ren, two brothers and two sisters.
The pallbearers were her grand¬sons, Joe and Jesse Patton, the hus¬bands of her granddaughters, Ches¬ter Bartlett and Clifford Shumaker, Lawrence Roudebush and John Darlington.
Those attending from a distance were James Hatch, Allen and James Hatch, Jr., Mrs. Ida Gaines, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bouse from Freeman, Mo., and Mrs. Ethel Coombs from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Services for Thornton Lynn Bouse, 78, 1722 Wash¬burn, will be at 1:30 pm Fri¬day in the Penwell-Gabel Fu-neral Home with burial in the Holton Cemetery. He died Tuesday at his home after a short illness. He was a teacher and school administrator for 43 years in north east Kansas.
He was born May 14, at Whiting, attended schools in the Holton area and was graduated at the State Teachers College at Em¬poria. He received his master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Kansas and was a charter member of Phi Delta Kappa honor¬ary educational fraternity.
Before the Oakland area was taken into Topeka’s city limits he was superintendent of Oakland schools.
Mr. Bouse was a teacher in the former Campbell Col¬lege at Holton and in the Holton High School. He was the first principal of Ottawa Jun¬ior High School. He was principal of Rossville high school for 13 years. He re¬tired before World War II but left retirement during the war to teach in Wash¬burn Rural High School.
He was a member of the Euclid Methodist Church, Scottish Rite bodies and Lodge No. 17, AF&AM. He was a Mason for 54 years and a member of the Holton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 50 years.
Mr. Bouse is survived by his widow, Mrs. Helena Killey Bouse of the home; two nephews, Jesse Patton of Holton and Robert C. Bouse of Birmingham, Mich.; and four nieces, Mrs. Amy Clark of Paul, Idaho, Mrs. Mary Shumaker of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Alice Haydon of Horton and Mrs. Ida Bartlett of Holton.

Gottlieb Bower, about 26 years old, disappeared from his home last Sunday afternoon, taking with him a gun and his dog. Searching parties went out Monday night and Tuesday noon his body was found in the waters of Cross creek near the home. He had been shot, either by accident or suicidal intent to be determined by the Coroner.

William F. Bowers, Jr., 40, World war veteran and resident of Silver Lake, died suddenly from a heart attack suffered at his home Tuesday. Bowers, who fought overseas with Battery A, of the 130th Field Artillery, was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic church at St. Marys, and of the American Legion.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mae Bower, and nine children of the home; his father, William Bower, sr. of St. Marys; a brothers, C.J. Bower of St. Louis, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. S.E. Dalto of St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services were held today at 2:30 p.m. at St. Marys, with the American Legion in charge.

Alfred Miles Bowers, 87, Silver Lake, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Rossville Valley Manor.
He was born September 27, 1913, in Osage City, the son of Josiah and Catherine Rose Rashford Bowers.
He attended schools in Osage City and was graduated from Eskridge High School, Eskridge, in 1933. He farmed many years in Jackson County before moving to Silver Lake in 1967. He had worked for the Kansas Turnpike. Mr. Bowers was an avid hunter and was a 20-year Hunter Safety instructor. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia.
On December 30, 1937, he married Emma Thompson in Osage City. She survives.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (this morning) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia. Burial was in the Adrian Cemetery, Delia. A prayer service was at 7 p.m. Monday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Valley Manor, or sent in care of the funeral home.

 | Obituary- Bowers, Catherine Catherine Hannah Bowers
Catherine Hannah Bowers, 75, 1931 Mission, died Sunday at a Topeka hos¬pital.
She was born Dee. 4, 1905, in Osage City, the daughter of Josiah and Cathe¬rine Rashford Bowers.
Miss Bowers was graduated in 1928 from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse, working many years for St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. She most recently worked at Stormont-Vail Re-gional Medical Center.
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include three brothers, Charles Bowers, Osage City, Lawrence Bowers, Delia, and Alfred Bowers, Silver Lake; and four sisters, Mrs. Marga¬ret Jones, Mrs. Emily Reaka and Bernice Bowers, all of Topeka, and Mrs. Dorothy Bundy, McMinnville, Ore.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. Burial will be in Mount Calva¬ry Cemetery, Osage City. Miss Bowers will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan Funeral Home. Daugh¬ters of Isabella rosary will be recited there at 5 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m.
