| 7053 |  | Obituary- Koci, Clyde Clyde D. Koci Clyde D. Koci, 73, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007. He was born February 2, 1934 in Auburn, Kansas, the son of Alfred C. and Rose (Kovar) Koci. He was a graduate of Delia High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by Sears in Topeka for 8 years and worked for Kansas Gas Service for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He was a former member of Northland Christian Church and a current member of Topeka Bible Church. A life time member of Post No. 400 American Legion and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 555. Clyde married Donna L. Tolles March 25, 1960 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1988. He was married to Sally A. Calamunce from 1993 to 2003. They remained friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard, and Irvin, and a sister, Gladys Smith. Survivors include a daughter, Deana Gregg (Frank) of Topeka; two sisters, Viola Layman of Topeka and Nina Wehner of Eudora, KS; two grandchildren, Jared Gregg and Cara Gregg both of Topeka; his close friend, Darlene Dorr of Topeka. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Davidson Funeral Home. Mr. Koci will lie in state from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. Military honors conducted by American Legion Post No 400 will be at Mt. Mrs. Koci was a secretary and bookkeeper for Communications Consultants nine years before she retired for health reasons. She was born July 14, 1930, at Hiawatha, the daughter of Romine F. and Clarisa Henry Tolles. She spent most of her life in Topeka. She was married to Clyde D. Koci March 25, 1960, in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include a daugh¬ter, Deana L. Gregg, Topeka; three sisters, Jean Kattes, Nebraska City, Neb., Elizabeth Newell, Branson, Mo., and Pat Stoltenberg, Hiawatha; two brothers, William Tolles, La Grande, 0re., and Richard Tolles, Houston, Texas; and three grand¬children. She was born August 20, 1896, in the Rossville community. She lived in the Grove and Silver Lake communities before she moved to Topeka in 1944. Mrs. Koci was a member of the auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge and Senior Citizens Group No. 6. She was a member of the Senior Citizens rhythm band and had completed more than 1,000 volunteer hours with the band at the Topeka VA Hospital and at rest homes in Topeka. She was married to James F. Koci on June 21, 1915. He died May 21, 1962. A son, Frank J. Koci, died September 24, 1975. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lillian H. Wiant, Silver Lake, Mrs. Irene J. Neugebauer, Lawrence, and Mrs. Grace D. Laurenti, Topeka; a brother, Frank Dolezilek, Rossville; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Matyak, Delia, and Mrs. Anna Strimple and Mrs. Lydia Strimple, both of Rossville; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was born May 8, 1901, near Au¬burn, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Stach Koci. Mr. Koci farmed until 1949, then worked for Shawnee County Highway Department until he retired in 1966. He was a member of St. Paul’s Luth¬eran Church and Senior Citizens Bowl¬ing League at Gage North bowling alley. He married Pauline Badura Sept. 27, 1927, at Rossville. She died March 26, 1955. He later married Viola D. Schlodder Dec. 1, 1956, at Topeka. She sur¬vives. Other survivors include one daugh¬ter, Mrs. Agonia Boydston, Topeka; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Helen Holt. Mr. Koci farm¬ed in the Auburn community until he retired in 1970, when he moved to Topeka. He lived in Shawnee County his entire life. He was born Ju¬ly 14, 1898, near Auburn, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Stach Koci. Mr. Koci attended the Twinville Congregational Church west of Au¬burn at an early age. He was a member of the Prairie Grange No. 1429. He was married to Bessie G. Fin¬ley on April 2, 1931, at Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include: a daugh¬ter, Mrs. Imogene R. Baker, Flag¬staff, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Hromada and Mrs. Alice Bayless, both of Topeka; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was born February 7, 1929, in Delia, Kansas, the daughter of Valen and Lizzie (Bravence) Lysek. She graduated from Delia High School in 1947. Josephine was a homemaker and also enjoyed working at Pomeroy Escrow, babysitting and cooking at the schools. Josephine married Dewey Eugene Koci on July 2, 1950 in Topeka at the First Presbyterian Church. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2021. Survivors include her sons, Galen Koci (Maggie) of Auburn, Victor Koci of Meriden, and Milton Koci (Carole) of Topeka; grandchildren Ronda (Jered) Holthaus, Beth (Ryan) Harman, Chad (Karli) Koci, Jennifer (Chuck) Scott, Jessica (Joshua) Smith, Melissa (Joshua) Ludwig, Krystal Koci, Alisha Hopkins, and Adam (Mallory) Koci; 17 great-grandchildren; and in-laws Russell Koci (Jessie), Virgil Koci, and Gertrude (Don) Tidwell. She was preceded in death by her son, Delmar Koci; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Larry Figgs; her parents Valen and Lizzie Lysek; her sisters Elsie (and her husband Harold) Rezac, Agnes (and her husband Lawrence) Hefner, and Lorraine Lysek. Josephine enjoyed spending time with her family - especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29th, 2022 at the Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel at 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. | 7067 |  | Obituary- Kokenge, Marlene 1 Donald Wilbur Knudsen Donald Wilbur Knudsen of Topeka passed away April 25, 2012. He was born Nov. 11, 1928, the son of David and Helen (Henderickson) Knudsen. After serving in the Army, Donald worked as a carpenter at Whelan’s in Topeka for 30 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rose E. Knudsen, and sister, Joyce Gray. His pastimes included hunting, fishing, and metal detecting. He was a silversmith and formally taught silversmith classes at Rice Community Center. Mr. Knudsen is survived by his children, Rick Knudsen and wife Lori of Silver Lake, Madalyn Knudsen and John Schulz of Eudora, Jerri Childs and husband Bill of Silver Lake; a brother, Gene Knudsen and wife Connie of Russell; grandchil-dren Derek Ogan, Emily Ogan, Andrea Norris, Katie Martens, Andy Knudsen, Zach Knudsen and Matthew Knudsen; and great-grandchildren, Paxton Willett and Ava Martens. | 7068 |  | Obituary- Kolbaba, Frank FRANK J. KOLBABA DIES IN TOPEKA HOSPITAL Private services for Frank J. Kolbaba of Prague, Nebraska, will be held today at 2:30 o’clock with cremation in the Mount Hope cemetery. He died Monday in a Topeka Hospital. Mr. Kolbaba was born in Vysoke Myto, Czechoslovakia June 24, 1880. He was educated in violin in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He was married to Miss Emily Coufal in 1903 and the couple sailed for the United States on Christmas 1905 locating in Chicago, Illinois, where he opened a violin studio and taught there until 1908. For ten years he taught music at Washburn College and did private teaching. He also held other teaching positions at Howard Payne College, Brownwood, Texas; Baylor College for Women in Belton, Texas; New Mexico Agricultural Mechanical College, Las Curses, New Mexico; and New Mexico State Teachers College, Silver City, New Mexico. A former Topekan, Mr. Kolbaba made his home the last 27 years in Prague, Nebraska, where he taught music and held the position of village clerk. His first wife preceded him in death. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Mary Kolbaba of Prague, Nebraska; two daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Krasny of Rossville, Kansas; Mrs. Tony Hromadka of Bell Buckle, Tennessee; one son. Emil Kolbaba of Carbondale, Kansas; three grandchildren, Miss Emily Hromadka of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, Mrs. Charles Martin of Silver Lake, Ks., and Mrs. Robert Harden of Rossville, Kansas; and eight great-grandchildren. | |

He was born December 16, 1906, in Rossville, and had lived in the Delia area all his life. He was employed by the Farmers Union Co-op in St. Marys. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Delia. He is survived by three brothers, John Kolbek, Pete Kolbek and Charley Kolbek, all of Delia; and three sisters, Mrs. Millie Wilson, Mrs. Hattie McClain and Mrs. Mary Lundin, all of Delia. Ray was born April 6, 1936, at Hoyt, Kansas, the son of John F. and Mattie M. (Viles) Kolbek. He grew up at Meriden and attended school there. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in Korea and Japan. After his honorable discharge in 1956, he served eight years in the Army Reserve. He moved to Chicago and Kansas City, before settling in Topeka, where he worked for thirteen years as a warehouse operations supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka. On March 18, 1974, he was married to Elizabeth J. “Betty” Brown at Kansas City, Kansas, and the following year, in 1975, they moved to Dallas, Texas. Ray worked in the Dallas area as a warehouse operations manager for Toshiba until it closed, and then at Canon USA until his retirement in 2001. In 2006, Ray and Betty moved to Burlington to be nearer to family. Ray was an active member and officer of American Legion Post No. 38 in Burlington, and had been a member and past post commander of VFW in Topeka. His hobbies included woodworking and carving. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Kolbek, a sister, Karen White, and a second sister who died as a child. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; a brother, Harold Kolbek of Holton; three sons, Richard Kolbek of Topeka, David Kolbek of Pratt, and Kristopher Kolbek of Topeka; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Jim proudly served his country with the United States Navy from October 1961 through September 1964. In 1967 he married Linda Harris. The couple divorced. He later married Barbara Anne Jones in 1988. They later divorced. Jim was a member of the Local 441 (Pipefitters Union) of Topeka and was a journeyman for 42 years. He was also a member of the American Legion (Blackjack Post), the NRA, and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He also liked working on old machinery, winemaking and was a skilled handyman. Arrangements were by Hurley Funeral Home. Born in 1874 in Kentucky, she came to Kansas in 1880 and lived in Rossville many years, then moved to California an d hack to Topeka about six months ago. She belonged to the Christian church in Rossville. (Davis) Korcal passed away on Feb 2, 2021 in Bullhead City, AZ. She was a graduate of Rossville High School Class of 1953. Born in West Liberty, KY on July 4, 1935 to Marion F. Davis and Josephine Anna (Wells) Davis. She was preceeded in death by her parents, brothers Frances Davis, Joe Davis, Stanley Davis, Ted Elkins, and sister Helen Thompson. Also, her late husband, John Korcal. She spent most of her adult life in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Bullhead City, Arizona area working in banking, insurance, and later in hotel hospitality. She was an avid pet lover and always had a dog. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews of which she often voiced many good memories. She lived independently till the first of Dec of 2020 when she had a compression fracture of her back which required surgery. She was unable to go back to her apartment and later acquired pneumonia which she did not recover from. It was her wish not to have a service and to be cremated. There will have a private graveside service at a later date. Her ashes will be buried with her dad at the Rossville Cemetary. | |

She was a lover of flowers and spent many hours caring for them indoors as well as outdoors. Mrs. Kovar departed this life Jan. 12, 1939 at her home. She was married to Emial Kovar Aug. 4, 1926, at her parents’ home northeast of Rossville. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Davis, Willard; a sister, Mrs. Helen Wickham, Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
