| 9001 |  | Obituary- Pratt, John JOHN D. PRATT John D. Pratt, 79, of 833 North Jackson, long-time merchant of North Topeka, died unexpectedly at his home late Saturday. With his brother, the late O. A. Pratt, they owned and operated for more than 50 years the Pratt Hardware store at 901-903 North Kansas, now the Ed Marling store of North Topeka, until it was sold 10 years ago. O. A. Pratt died a few years later. Mr. Pratt was born January 27, 1871 near Topeka. He was a member of First Presbyterian church and served as an elder. He also was affiliated with the Golden Rule lodge 90, AFAM. He was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Anna L. Pratt, August 2, 1949. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Lamb; two grandsons, John and Charles Lamb, and two great-grandsons, Donald and Charles Alan, all of Littleton, Colo.; several nieces and nephews including Dudley Pratt of 118 Taylor, Chester W. Pratt of 412 West Fourteenth, and Mrs. Joe Parr of Rossville. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Parker Mortuary. Burial was in the Rochester cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Parr, Rolland and Virginia, were in Topeka, Tuesday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs. Parr’s uncle John D. Pratt held at Parkers mortuary Mr. and Mrs. Gus Kassebaum were in Topeka, Tuesday to attend the funeral service of Mr. John D. Pratt at the Parker mortuary. | |
| 9002 |  | Obituary- Pratt, Juanita JUANITA MITCHELL PRATT Juanita Mitchell Pratt passed away in the Billings Memorial hospital in Chicago, July 11, 1935. She was born in Junction City, Kansas, Aug. 29, 1902. She lived in Rossville and graduated from the High school in 1919. After her marriage to Merritt C. Pratt of Lake Forest, Ill., Feb. 23, 1924, she made her home in Chicago. Mrs. Pratt was a member of the Buena Memorial Presbyterian church where she has taken an active part in the church Guild. She was a teacher and secretary in the Beginners’ Dept. at Sunday school. She was a member of the Marshall Field’s Woman club. Mrs. Pratt is survived by her husband Merritt and little daughter Jule of Chicago; her mother, Mrs. Leota Owens of Richland; a brother Riley Mitchell of Kansas City; two grandmothers, Mrs. Mellory Richland and Mrs. Eliza Mitchell of Rossville. Funeral services were held Monday July 15, from Schatz funeral chapel and burial in Rosehill cemetery in Chicago. | |
| 9003 |  | Obituary- Pratt, O.A. Mrs. Joe Parr and son Rolland attended the funeral services Friday afternoon for Mrs. Parr's uncle, O.A. Pratt at the Wall-Diffenderfer Funeral Home. Mr. Pratt was a veteran Topeka hardware dealer, having been in business 54 years when he retired in 1941. Burial was postponed on account of the bad weather until Monday. Burial services were conducted in Mount Hope Cemetery Monday afternoon with the family attending. | |
| 9004 |  | Obituary- Preble, Nancy Nancy H. (McClain) Preble, 87, a retired educator, died at her home in Mesa on July 21, of natural causes. Nancy was born at home in Rossville, Kansas on March 30, 1929, the 7th child of Roy and Eva (Trimble) McClain. Penny, as she was nicknamed, graduated from Rossville High School in 1947. She met the love of her life, Walter C Preble when she was in high school. Their love grew through letters exchanged during his service in the US Army. They were married on February 16, 1948 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage until Walt preceded her in death in 1992. They lived in Grove, Kansas until buying land and building a home just outside Rossville, Kansas. Penny worked as a bookkeeper at Farm Bureau Insurance and KPL, but most of her life was dedicated to caring for and teaching children. She was a paraprofessional in a special needs preschool at Rossville and Delia Elementary Schools before moving to Arizona in 1984. She worked at Gilbert Junior High School, retiring in 1997 to care for her grandchildren. A lifelong sports fan, Penny loved cheering her kids as they played baseball, football, basketball, softball and volleyball, or raced mini-spring cars. She also became an avid Suns fan upon her arrival in the Valley. She is survived by a sister, Mazie, of Rossville; four sons, Myles (Noree) and Mark (Phet), both of Salt Lake City, UT; Chris (Tammy), of Sun City; and Jim (Lynn) of Mesa, and one daughter, Karen (Dan) Clayton, of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 10 am, Wednesday, July 27, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Gilbert Junior High School Library. | |
| 9005 |  | Obituary- Preble, Walter Walter Preble Sr Walter Preble Sr aged 70, passed away at his home in Scandia, Kansas Tuesday evening, August 21, after suffering a heart attack. He is survived by two children, Scandia, and was preceded in death by his wife in 1941. He was survived by two children, Mrs. Marceil Wood of Manhattan, and Walter Preble Jr of Rossville. Funeral services will be held Friday August 24, at the United Brethren church at 2 p.m. | |
| 9006 |  | Obituary- Preble, Walter C. Walter C. Preble Services were held for Walter C. Preble, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Rossville, on Friday, June 5, 1992. He died at his home on June 2, after a long illness. He was born in Scandia, Ks., on March 28, 1926, the son of Walter and Alta Simms Preble. He graduated from Scandia High School and attended business college in Topeka. He served in the U.S. Army following World War II in the Occupation Forces in Japan. He was a rural mail carried in Rossville for 24 of the 36 years of service with the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scandia and a long time member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, Mesa, Ariz.; four sons, Myles Preble and Mark Preble, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, Chris Preble, Glendale, Calif., and Jim Preble, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Karen, Mesa, Ariz.; and six grandchildren. Casketbearers were his sons and two grandsons, Jeff and Bryan Preble, Salt Lake City. Honorary casketbearers were Bob Parnell, Bob Gentry, Larry Hudson, David Stadler, and Luther McClain, all of Rossville, and Dan Clayton, Mesa, Ariz. A memorial fund has been set up in Walt’s name at the Peoples State Bank in Rossville. Funds will be donated to the Rossville City Library. | |

| 9008 |  | Obituary- Pressgrove, Josephine 1 Josephine Pressgrove Rossville- Josephine Pressgrove, 100, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Rossville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Rossville. She was born December 28, 1912 to George and Rosie Hejtmanek Olejnik of Rossville. She spent most of her life in the Rossville, Wamego and Topeka areas and attended Victor 101 School. Josephine was married to LeRoy Pressgrove on January 31, 1935. They were married for 57 years. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1992. She was recently preceded in death by two of her three children, Karen Figge and Ronald Pressgrove. Four siblings also preceded her in death; brothers, George, Rudy, Henry and Ed Olejnik. Also, preceding her in death are a son-in-law, Jake Rosser; one grandchild, Timothy Rosser and one great-great-grandson Anthony Rosser. Josephine was a homemaker and loved cooking, gardening, crocheting and sewing. She was noted for her delicious Kolaches and always had her Seek-A-Word close at hand. She graduated from the Menniger Bible Study and was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. She was a life member of the ZCBJ Lodge. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Rosser, Duncan, OK; a son-in-law, Myron Figge, Topeka; a brother, William Olejnik, Rossville; sisters, Georgeanne Davis and Agnes Wike, both of Topeka and Helen Donly, St. Joseph, MO; 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Czech Moravian Cemetery, Rossville. Mrs. Pressgrove will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 Thursday evening at the funeral home. He died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1992 at a Topeka hospital. Burial will be in Czech-Moravan Cemetery near Delia. Mr. Pressgrove will lie in state after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where friends and relatives will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. today. LeRoy J. Pressgrove LeRoy J. Pressgrove, 86, Topeka, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1992, at a Topeka hospital. Mr. Pressgrove was a section hand on the Union Pacific Railroad. He was born May 15, 1906, at Mission, the son of Ulysses and Anna Hunley Pressgrove. He attended grade school in Lecompton. He lived in the Rossville and Silver Lake areas until 1979, then in Wamego from 1979 until 1990, when he moved to Topeka. Mr. Pressgrove attended the Rossville United Methodist Church. He was married to Josephine Olejnik on Jan. 31, 1935, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Shirley Rosser, Dinuba, Calif., and Karen Figge, Topeka; a son, Ron Pressgrove, Topeka; a brother, Joseph Pressgrove, Clinton, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grand-children. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Czech-Moravan Cemetery near Delia. Mr. Pressgrove will lie in state after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. | 9012 |  | Obituary- Pressgrove, Ronald In Memory of RONALD PRESSGROVE 1946-2013 Ronald Le Roy Pressgrove, 66, of Topeka, passed away at his home under the care of Midland Hospice on Feb. 6, 2013. He was born to Le Roy and Josephine Olejnik Pressgrove on April 10, 1946 at Rossville, Kansas. He grew up in Rossville and graduated from Rossville High School. He served in the US Army from 1969 through 1971 and was stationed in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Ronald was employed by Washburn University as a member of the grounds crew. He retired in 2010. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his children, Crystal Pressgrove, Curtis Pressgrove, Coral had her husband Chad Quasebarth, Cristeen and her husband Randy Young, Craig Tyska, and Corey Pressgrove; his mother, Josephine Pressgrove; his sister, Shirley Rosser; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Le Roy Pressgrove and his sister, Karen Figge. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. | |
| 9013 |  | Obituary- Preston, Cynthia Cynthia Lucille (Cindy) Preston Cynthia Lucille (Cindy) Preston, 66, of Silver Lake, Kansas went to be with Our Lord and Savior on April 24th, 2011 Easter Sunday. She was born February 20th, 1945 in Hobbs New Mexico the daughter and oldest child of Ruth and George Newton. She attended the Fairbury School System. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln in 1967. She worked as a classroom teacher in elementary education for the USD 501 and later went on to earn a special certification to teach as a Certified Reading Specialist. She retired from USD 501 in 2005. Cindy was a nurturing Grandmother of five, an avid golfer, a member of Chapter FJ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Lowman United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, A.D.K. and Queen of Jobs Daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and George Newton. She is survived by her husband Fred; two children Matt Preston (wife Sheri Preston) and Heather Houser (husband Paul Houser); Grandchildren: Abagail Houser, Trevor Houser, Ian Preston, Sydney Houser and Shawn Preston; Siblings: Susan Madden of Bellevue, NE; Robert Newton (wife Sharyn Newton) of Lincoln, NE; Richard Newton (wife Jeanne Newton) of Fairbury, NE and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., today April 26th 2011 at Lowman United Methodist Church. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00a.m. Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 at the church. A second ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 28th at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, NE followed by interment in the Fairbury Cemetery. | 9014 |  | Obituary- Preston, Elizabeth Mrs. Hahn's Mother Buried Here The body of Mrs. Elizabeth Preston, mother of Mrs. Hahn, was brought here from Kansas City, Kansas, Saturday on the noon train and laid to rest at 1:30 in the Rossville cemetery. Elizabeth Preston was born in Norwack [sic], Ohio, Dec. 24, 1855, and came to Kansas in 1872. After her marriage to Mr. M.A. Curtiss, they lived for a time near St. Mary [sic]. Two children came to their home, Mortie A. and Susan E. Curtiss. The son is now living at Ramah, Colol, and the daughter, Mrs. S.E. Hahan of this city. Mr. Curtiss died in 1879 and in 1881 she was married to Mr. H.A. Preston and they lived for a number of years at Alma, Kans. To this union five children were born, four of them dying at an early age, one son John D. Preston, residing at Kansas City, Kan. Mrs. Preston died August 28th at her home 1967 Tromp Ave., Kansas City, Kan., at the age of 64. The funeral services were held from the Geo. Long Chapel in Kansas City and another short service at the grave. She is survived by her husband and three children above mentioned, and six grand children, George, Albert, Clarence, Burgess and Marshall Hahn of this city; Mrs. Bertha Feldman of Lawrence. | 9015 |  | Obituary- Price, Arthur Arthur O. "Tex" Price SILVER LAKE- Arthur O. "Tex" Price, 91, Silver Lake, KS, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 27,2007 at Midland Hospice House. Arthur was born Nov. 21, 1915, in Bertram, TX, to Arthur and Mattie Price. He worked at Goodyear for over 30 years and was a member of Local 307 Union, serving as secretary for several years and as an officer of the Rubber Workers' Credit Union. He was also a member of the North Topeka Baptist Church for over 50 years and was involved in many other organizations. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor. They were married 66 years. He is also survived by two daughters: Linda Verge (Don) and Judy Wade (Tom, Jr.) of Silver Lake; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister: Hazel Fritsch, San Antonio, TX; two brothers: Morris Price (Jeannette), Florence, TX and Glen Price (Janie), Bertram, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Tex was preceded in death by his brother, Carlos Price (Ida Mae), Belton, TX, and his parents. Tex will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Wed., Oct. 31, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, Topeka. Interment in Silver Lake Cemetery. Tex will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. | 9016 |  | Obituary- Price, Eleanor Eleanor B. Price Eleanor B. Price, 87, Silver Lake, a long-time resident of North Topeka, passed away on Dec. 29, 2008. Mrs. Price was born to Swedish parents, Bert and Anna Berg on June 26, 1921, at Craig, Neb. She married Arthur O. “Tex” Price in 1941. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 2007. Two daughters survive: Linda Verge and husband Don, and Judy Wade and husband Tom Jr., all of Silver Lake. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers and extended family. Eleanor and her husband were charter founders of Rubber Workers Federal Credit Union where Eleanor began her career in 1956 and served as manager until her retirement in 1987. The Prices were honored with a plaque for 50 years of membership at North Topeka Baptist Church. Services were held Jan. 3 at Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel. | 9017 |  | Obituary- Priestley, Michael Priestley Michael R. Priestley, 64, Delia, died Monday, July 3, 2017, at his home. He was born Aug. 10, 1952, at Fort Campbell, Ky., the son of Alburton “Skip” Priestley Jr. and Esther Grant Priestley. He graduated from Pine Forrest High School in Fayetteville, N.C. in 1971, and attended college for a year. Mr. Priestley served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, attaining the rank of First Sergeant. After retiring from the military he worked for 19 years at McCall Pattern in Manhattan. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Topeka and was vice president of Delia Community Pride. He married Ginny Venneberg on Nov. 26, 2005, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his father and stepmother, “Skip” and Helen Priestley, Prescott Valley, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Jessica Venneberg, Onaga, and Ashley Venneberg, Topeka; three brothers, Alburton “Butch” Priestley HI and Raymond Priestley, both of Greenville, S.C., and Duaine Priestley, Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren, Marshall Brunin, Luna Brashear, Clayton Ivy and Hunter Ivy. He was preceded in death by his mother. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sedalia Community Church near Manhattan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. | 9018 |  | Obituary- Primley, Fred Obituary Fred Primley died at his home at Rossville, Kansas, June 21, 1894, aged 71 years 1 month and 5 days. He had been in poor health several months previous to his death, but was not considered dangerously ill until a few days before his decease, at which time his children were telegraphed for. His history, as far as can be ascertained, is as follows: Fred Primley was born near Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio. When a small boy of seven years, he removed with is father's family to a place near Covington, Ind. At the age of 27 he was married to Ruth Ogle, eldest daughter of James and Elizabeth Ogle, in the year 1850. In 1852 or 1853 he, with his wife and one child, moved to Keithsburg, Ill., remaining there until the Spring of 1860, when, with his little family of five, together with his brother-in-law and family, he removed to California. In 1873 he returned and settled in Missouri, near to Kansas City. In 1878 he met with a sad loss in the death of his beloved wife. With seven children (one having preceded its mother) he was left to mourn the loss of a dear companion, wife, and mother. Soon after, he sold his interests there, and in 1882 came to Rossville, where he remained until his death. In 1883 Mr. Primley was married to Mrs. Jane Petty, of Covington, Ind., who, with seven children, remain to mourn the loss of the one only gone before. In 1885, together with his present wife, he united with the Christian church, at Rossville, and up to his death was a firm believer of the Gospel of Christ. He said he was ready and willing to go at any time. He had no fear of death, and fell asleep calmly and peacefully. He fought the good fight, and the battle was won. Glorious victory! He was laid to rest in the Rossville cemetery last Saturday evening June 23. [From The Rossville Times, June, 29, 1894] | |

Funeral services were held September 30 at the Sumner Christian Church with burial in Sumner Cemetery. As a boy he lived in Rossville and attended school here. He left for Washington in 1897 where he had lived since. His parents build the home now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hayes in Rossville. Survivors include his wife and one son. | |

| 9021 |  | Obituary- Primley, Minerva 2 Pneumonia Proves Fatal to Mrs. Jane Primley Mrs. Minerva Jane Primley passed away Thursday, May 1, at 6 p.m., after a week's illness with pneumonia at the home of her niece, Mrs. E.D. Hartzell, aged 84 years, 4 months and 11 days. The deceased, whose maiden name was Minerva Jane Trullinger, was born at Covington, Kentucky, December 20, 1839. At the age of 16 she was united in marriage to William Petty. He departed this life in 1878. On February 2, 1883, she was married to Mr. Fred Primley and the moved soon after to Kansas, locating in the vicinity of Rossville. Mr. Primley passed away June 20, 1894. Mrs. Primley united with the Rossville Christian church in 1894 and has always remained one of its faithful members. She had endeared herself to a large circle of acquaintances in the community and to these she was always affectionately addressed as "Aunt." For many years she had made her home with the family of her niece, Mrs. E.D. Hartzell, and the devotion existing between the members of the family and "Aunty" Primley was of common knowledge to everyone in the community. Funeral services were held in the Christian church, Saturday afternoon, May 3, conducted by her Pastor, Rev. James Kennedy, who was assisted by Rev. G.C. Albin, of the Methodist church. Music was rendered by the church choir including Mrs. John Kinnet, Mrs. H.E. Ishmael, Miss Ruth Stanley and Mrs. Peter Navarre. The pallbearers were Messrs. M.S. McElvain, C.E. Van Vleck, H.E. She was born March 8, 1930 in Topeka the daughter of Colton F. and Alma M. Smalley Kincaid. She graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1947. After graduation Edna worked at Ray's Printing in Topeka for 8 years. In 1967 she started working at Gockel's IGA where she worked for 21 years. She co-owned and operated Prior-DeBacker Liquor Store in St. Marys for 7 years. Edna also worked as a sub for USD No. 321 in food services for several years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was united in marriage to John William Prior on November 7, 1953 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. They had 4 children, Dennis, Karen, Diane and Patricia. John preceded her in death on June 20, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, C.F. "Junior" Kincaid and Donald Kincaid and a sister, Arlene Kincaid. Survivors include her children, Dennis (Janice) Prior, Rossville, Karen Stockman (Marc Rupp), Arvada, CO., Diane (Severing) DeBacker, Topeka/Seattle and Patricia Rentfro, Topeka; 7 grandchildren, Dannielle, Andy, Matt, Bailey, Adam, Jeff and Zach; 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Max, Sebastian, Ava, Calyn, Hadley and Ida; nieces and nephews. He was born on the family farm one mile west of St. Marys to Andrew T. and Helen Fitzgerald Prior on May 5,1923. John graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1941. He attended welding school in Wichita and worked in the shipyard in Seattle for a year. John enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in the 96th Seabees as an electric welder. He served in the Azores, Philippines and China. John was discharged in April 1946. He returned to the family farm and worked there until 1973 when he started working at Rezac Livestock Commission where he worked for over 34 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys, Knights of Columbus Council #657 and a 4th degree member of Thomas A. McNeive Assembly. John was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and a member of the VFW. John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom and Roderick Prior; two sisters, Geraldine Adams and Shelia Seibert. He was united in marriage to Edna Kincaid on November 7,1953 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. She survives of the home. He was born October 26, 1950 at Topeka, the son of Charles Richard and Iryllis Dee Gronquist Puff. Jim grew up in the Oakland community and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1968. He served in the National Guard. Jim was a meat cutter by trade working in many Topeka grocery stores. In 1986 he and his wife Patti moved to Maple Hill when they bought Barrett’s Grocery Store. They added Puffy’s Steak and Ice House in 1994 selling the business in 2017. Jim was a member of the catholic faith. He had belonged to the Local Meat Cutters Union in Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother David Puff, two brothers-in-law, Dennis Schimmel and Doug Menke. On January 22, 1972 Jim and Patricia M. Menke were united in marriage at Topeka. She survives of the home. He attended Rossville Christian Church, and was a member of the Elite Group at the US Bank in Rossville. He was a Sergeant in the US Army in France in the army of occupation following WWII. Lewis was a lifelong farmer-stockman. He married Caroline Albright on May 24, 1952, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka. Caroline died on Sept. 5, 2008. Lewis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. | 9038 |  | Obituary- Queen, Donald 2 Donald W. “Pete” Queen Donald W. “Pete” Queen, 63, Topeka, died Wednesday, March 31, 1993, at his home. Mr. Queen worked in the Santa Fe Railway shops. He was born April 3, 1929, in Beverly, the son of Creed T. and Hallie E. Hays Queen. He lived in the Silver Lake and Grove communities most of his life. Mr. Queen was a member of the Railway Clerks Union. A son, Earl Queen, died in 1967. Survivors include a daughter, Rita Elder, Rocky Hill, Conn.; two sons, Douglas Queen, Rossville, and John Queen, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; four sisters, Geraldine Edwards and Ruth Blush, both of Silver Lake, Doris Anderson, Osage City, and Imogene Reese, Tecumseh; and five grandchildren. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday in Davidson Funeral Home. Burial was in Walnut Hill Cemetery, north of Silver Lake. | 9039 |  | Obituary- Queen, Earl 1 Earl Queen Dies of Cancer Services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Rossville Methodist Church for Earl Wayne Queen, 16, who died Sunday in a Topeka hospital where he had been a patient since September 21. He had been ill 13 months with cancer. Earl was born April 29, 1951 in Topeka and had lived in Rossville since he was nine months old. He was president of his sophomore class at Rossville High School and was a member of the Rossville chapter of Future Farmers of America. He was a member of the Rossville Methodist Church and was active in the Rossville-Delia youth group of the church. He was president of the Rossville Rustlers 4-H Club. He had been employed by the Rossville Implement Company. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Helen Queen at home; his father, Donald W. Queen, Tecumseh; a sister, Rita Lou Queen, at home; and two brothers, Douglas Joe Queen and John Lee Queen, both of the home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne H. Spears, of Rossville, and Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Queen of Silver Lake. Classes at Rossville High School were dismissed Wednesday for the funeral. The casket remained closed during services. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Parker Mortuary of Topeka was in charge of arrangements. The family has announced that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. | 9042 |  | Obituary- Quinlan, Margaret MRS. BELLE QUINLAN Margaret Isabel Guyette was born May 7,1861, at Kankakee, Illinois. She came to Kansas in 1870 with her parents. They settled m Jackson County near what is now the site of Delia. She was one of the students in the early days at SL Mary’s Mission School. In 1877 she was married at St. Marys to William Quinlan. To this union were born seven children. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughter, Isabelle and Margarite and three sons, George, Tom and James. She suffered the many hardships of pioneer days and was a devoted wife and mother. She was a charter member of the Royal Neighbors, Hope Camp, at St. Marys. Recently she was presented a Fifty-Year membership pin. She made her home the last twelve years with Mrs. Elinor McProud of Wamego. In October, 1949, she went San Francisco to visit her son Ed, at whose home she passed away April 5th. She was conscious to the last and knew that the end was not far off, but was ready to go. Her work on earth was done, but her memory and influence still live on. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elinor McProud of Wamego, and one son, Ed Quinlan of San Francisco; 18 grandchildren and 13 great¬grandchildren and many friends. A Requiem High Mass was sung at the St. Bernard church Tuesday morning at 9 a. m., Rev. Father Blaufuss officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary cemetery at St. Marys—Wamego Reporter. | |

He was born on June 15,1936 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Jacob George and Odelia Elizabeth (Schaefer) Rabe. Jerry attended St. Joseph's grade school. He worked at Santa Fe as the assistant manager of the Car Department and later retired as the Head of Safety after 38 years of service. He married Mary K. Kennedy on February 27, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They celebrated over 53 years of marriage. Jerry enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, Sunday lunches with family, bowling, pontoon boating at Lake Perry, and vegetable gardening. He also enjoyed working at the Pizza Parlor, Party Shack, volunteering at the Germanfest, and was an avid Hayden High School supporter. He is survived by his wife Mary, his children, Christy Rabe of Topeka, Mike (Michelle) Rabe of Topeka, Annie Paslay of Topeka, and Bryan (Ronda) Rabe of Delia, nine grandchildren, Ashley, Mykala, Jerry, Christian, Shane, Abigail, Kelsey, Alyssa, and Gracie, one great-grandson, Michael Vance, two brothers, James Rabe of California, and Charles Rabe of Ozawkie. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jacob Rabe, Bobby Rabe, Ruth Robinson, and Joan Wolff. Jerry will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
