Sanders died last Monday evening at his residence north of Rossville, of Lung and Liver affections, or more properly speaking, of general debility. -- His death was a shock to the community, for though in failing health for months past, he has been so constantly on our streets and attending to business that until very recently his rapid decline had been unnoticed by most of his many friends. Obituary- Sanders, Samuel
Obituary- Sanders, Samuel
Obituary
Samuel F. Sanders, was born, November 29th, 1860 Modom, Indiana, died December 1, 1920, aged 60 years and 1 day.

Samuel Francis Sanders, son of Frank L. Sanders, came to Kansas with his father when a mere lad locating at Topeka in the fall of 1869. The following spring the father located on the homestead which was the continuous home of Samuel until his death. Samuel endured the hardships and privations of pioneer life with the other members of the family, with great fortitude, having unwavering faith and full confidence in the ultimate results of his adopted country.

The early demise of the father, threw much of the care and responsibility of rearing and caring for the members of the family upon Samuel, he being an older member. This care and responsibility he assumed with noble purpose and an ever willing heart being a strong arm in time of need to a devoted mother in rearing her family. This fatherly care and devotion to duty endeared him to the younger members of the family far beyond that of a brother merely, he was their refuge in time of trouble, he was their protector in time of need, his help was their assurance his council their guide in deed.

This early training of devotion to duty was splendidly exemplified in Samuel's willingness to assist his neighbors. No one needed a helping hand but his was willingly and freely granted. This free, nonchalant spirit in rendering assistance was but one of his splendid virtues and neighbors and friends as well as his relatives will join in worthy tribute to his memory.

Funeral services were held at the home, Friday, Dec. 3, conducted by the Rev. R.S. McCullouch, of the Rossville Methodist church and interment made in Rossville cemetery.

The surviving relatives are his widow; one sister, Mrs. Martin E. Myers, two brothers, William and Charles Sanders, all of the home community.

Obituary- Schlup, Walter 2
Obituary- Schlup, Walter 2
A Friend
Rossville lost a friend this week. Walt Schlup was put to rest Tues¬day with military honors.

Walt was the man behind the pump. He served as public water and sewer maintenance man. Every month Walt would make the trips to every home in the community to read the water meters. The year around he maintained the pumps at the city water works and' some¬times in the summer dry periods he would be on duty 16 to 20 hours a day to assure a full supply of water for the citizens of the town. In case of a city fire, Walt would be at his station at the water works to keep the tower at top level. Among other duties he performed was the maintenance and operation of the sewer disposal plant south of Rossville.

Yes, Walt performed these important duties for Rossville for a number of years. If a person went out on the street and asked people if they knew Walt Schlup they would probably all say: “Yes, I know Wait, but I don't know anything about him.”

Walt was a friend of everyone but we wonder just how many really knew him for the many important services he rendered the entire community seven days a week, the year around.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Any person having bills or business concerning Walter R. Schlup, deceased, is asked to contact Mrs. Dale Ruff. Rossville, Kansas before March 15, 1959.

NOTICE—Anyone having tools or belongings of the late Walter Schlup is asked to please leave them with Dale Ruff, Rossville.

Walter Schlup who is confined to Winter Veterans Hospital in Topeka is reported to be very ill. He served as Rossville’s Water Commissioner before his illness in November. Last reports were that he is in a coma and kept in oxygen.

Listen to Obituary
Hunter Lee Schmidt, 17, of Rossville, Kansas, formerly of Ocean Gate, New Jersey, passed away tragically on September 3rd in a dirt bike accident, leaving this world while doing something he loved. He spent many joyful years in Manalapan and Ocean Gate before recently relocating to Kansas. During his senior year, Hunter attended Rossville High School, where he continued to make lasting memories with friends and classmates.

Hunter was the type of person we all aspire to be. He was a devoted son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He lit up every room he entered and had a unique ability to connect with everyone, from the youngest child to the oldest adult. His warm personality and infectious smile could brighten anyone's day.

An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Hunter had a deep passion for hunting, fishing, dirt biking, welding, ranching, and working on his truck. His adventurous spirit was only matched by his love for those around him. He shared a special bond with his father, Christopher Schmidt, who was not only his dad but also his best friend and they were each others Hero’s.

He is survived by his father, Christopher Schmidt, and his girlfriend, Jenn Lachcik, along with her children, Diego and Brooklyn. Hunter is remembered fondly by his grandmothers, Kathy Graves and Mary Ann Schmidt; uncles, Michael Graves and his wife Stefanie, and Matthew Schmidt and his wife Nancy; aunt Jessica Ferino and her husband Scott; as well as his seven beloved cousins, Ryan, Lily, Thomas, Caroline, Henry, Parker, and Greyson. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, he was the first child of Donna Ruth Conkle and Lloyd Gay Schwartz, M.D. Jim grew up in Topeka where he was known as "the lemon drop kid," the cycling paperboy who always hit your front porch with precision. He set the record for sit-ups at Boswell Jr. High, surpassed only by his little brother, Charlie. Jim graduated Topeka High in 1958 with the nickname "Elvis" because of his pompadour, ducktail and guitar. He played guitar for many traveling musicians appearing at the Topeka Municipal Auditorium in the late 50's and early 60's. Jim received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education at Washburn University in Topeka, majoring in Voice. Although recommended for training in Opera, Jim wanted to play and teach. He taught public school music in Dennison, Jackson Heights and Rossville school districts for 9 years, while playing and singing music professionally in Topeka. He traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada playing in bands ranging from the young 70's duo "Jim & Susie" to a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band who called him "Grandpa," except the lead guitar player who called him Dad. Hays, Kas., July 6 (AP) -- A family of five was found shot to death today in their home on the east side of Hays. Ellis County Sheriff Clarence Werth called the deaths multiple murder and suicide.

Werth identified the dead as George Schwerdt III, 31; his wife, Lillian, 29, and their three children, Michael, 7, Anna Marie, 5, and Tommy, 2.

The family's neighbors reported Schwerdt was seen about 11 p.m. Saturday in the yard of his home. Because of lack of activity around the house Sunday and early today, neighbors became suspicious and notified police and sheriff's officers.
