Mr. Thompson was a farmer and was a receiving clerk at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka before he retired in 1983. He was born October 28, 1921, at Delia, the son of Chris E. and Maude Fleming Thompson. He spent his life in the Delia and Rossville areas. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Delia and was an elder at the church. He was a member of Local No. 307 of United Rubber Workers of America, and the cemetery boards of Adrian, Cross Creek and Mount Olive cemeteries in Adrian Township in Jackson County. He also was treasurer of Jackson County Rural Water District No. 2. He was married to Vena Countryman September 11, 1945, at Lyndon. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Janet S. Mulanax, Topeka; a son, Donald R. Thompson, Topeka; his mother, Mrs. Maude Thompson, Delia; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 10 step- great-grandchildren. Services were at 11 a.m. Friday in the Presbyterian Church in Delia. Burial was in Adrian Cemetery, north of Delia. | 10353 |  | Obituary- Thompson, Carolyn 1 Carolyn Jeannine Thompson, 89, of St. Mary’s and formerly of rural Topeka, died on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the St. Marys Manor. Jeannine was born on December 17, 1935 in Rossville, KS the oldest daughter of six children to Joe and Donic (Patton) Parr. She attended local schools and graduated from Rossville High School in 1953. Jeannine married Calvin D. Crow in June of 1953 and they were blessed with 4 children; they were later divorced. Later, she married Charles “Ed” Thompson in 1969 in Topeka. This blended union included Ed’s children, Bernie, Lori and Tangela. Jeannine retired from the State of Kansas in 1998, working in Data Entry. Jeannine was a member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi Indian Tribe. She loved crafts, crocheting, and spending countless hours gardening and enjoying her grandchildren’s company. She also enjoyed attending Ed’s many performances with his country western band. Jeannine is survived by her children, Donola (Doug) Fairbanks, Debra (Aaron) Sebring, and Denise (Tim) Hersh; stepchildren, Bernie and Tangela Thompson; grandchildren, Holly (Jeff) Wehner, Melody Baker, Brad (Beth) Fairbanks, Ryan (Melissa) Fairbanks, Nicole (Ben) Long, Amanda Crow, Shannon (Shane) Price, Ashley (Todd) Sage, Josh Hersh, Shelby (Dan) Dellaporta, Brian Thompson, Brent Thompson, Dustin Jones, Logan Crow and Abby Hersh. She had 16 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Joleen Parr and brother, David Parr, and sisters-in-law, Carol Parr Fair and Elizabeth Parr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband, Calvin Crow and former husband, Ed Thompson, three brothers, Thane Parr, Larry Parr, and Clyde Parr, her son, Doug Crow, step-daughter, Lori Davis, granddaughter Janelle Barber and great-granddaughter Grace Long. A funeral service for Jeannine will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 18 at Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St. in St. Marys; a visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery. | 10355 |  | Obituary- Thompson, Charles E. Charles Thompson February 7, 1938 — June 18, 2021 Charles E. (Ed) Thompson, 83, passed away Friday June 18, 2021, at a Topeka hospital. Ed was born at home in rural Shawnee County on February 7, 1938, to his late parents Charley & Alta Briggs Thompson. Ed was a 1956 graduate of Rossville High School. He worked in partnership with his dad and his brother, Bill, for their family company, Thompson Construction. building ponds and terraces. He then worked for the City of Topeka Street Department and retired from Dover Township after many years of service. Ed loved country western music and formed the band “Ed Thompson and the Rovin Ramblers” with his brother Bill and backup musicians. They performed in most of the dance halls and clubs in the local area for years. He later formed the “Ed Thompson Band”. He is preceded in death by his daughter Lori Jean Thompson Davis, granddaughter Janelle Barber and great-granddaughter Grace Long. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Jeannine Thompson of the home. Other survivors include a brother, William “Bill” Thompson (Dorothy); his son Bernard “Bernie” Thompson, a daughter Tangela Thompson; his stepchildren, Donola Fairbanks (Doug); Debra Sebring (Aaron), Doug Crow (Dusty), and Denise Hersh (Tim); Ed is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Thompson was a dietitian for the Delia Grade School for many years and had been a cook at St. Marys Manor. She also served as Delia city treasurer and she worked on the election board for many years. She was born Jan. 12,1907, in Delia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Cantor Simecka. She graduated from Delia High School in 1925. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia. She married Curtis Alfred Thompson on Sept. 29,1929. He died July 12,1961. Mrs. Thompson also was preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Holcomb, on March 25,1969. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Thompson and Nels Thompson, both of Topeka; three daughters, Arlene Looker, Topeka, Vivian Bartello, Marro Bay, Calif., and Neysa Porter, Mason, N.H.: a brother, Ben Simecka, Silver Lake; a sister. Josephine Constant, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. ELLA THOMPSON Mrs. Ella Lucretia Thompson, daughter of Alfred and Celestia Keller, was born June 16, 1832, at Phillipsburg, Kansas. She died July 8, 1957, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. She came to the Delia community with her parents at the age of twelve and had made her home there since that time. She was a member of the United Brethern [sic] Church. She was married to Ludvig S. Thompson on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1903. Her husband preceded Tier in death January 7, 1957. One son, Lt. Arthur H. Thompson, gave his life in the service of his country January 2, 1944. She is survived by three daughters and five sons, Mrs. Cecile Zlatnik of Delia; Mrs. Rosa Fuller, Thermal, California; Mrs. Ella Fuller, Coachella, California; Dr. Layton Thompson, Bozeman, Montana; Sivert and Alfred Thompson of Orange, California; Eugene and Maurice Thompson of Topeka; seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Alta Thompson of Delia; Mrs. Lillie Worthington of Rawlins, Wyoming. Three brothers, John and Lynn Keller of Delia; Levi Keller of Rossville. A host of other relatives and friends. Services were held at 10:30 am Wednesday, July 10, at the Delia Presbyterian church. The Rev. Don Evans of Topeka conducted the services. He was born on August 14, 1919 in Delia, the son of Ludvig S. and Ella L. Keller Thompson. He graduated from Delia High School in 1937 and attended Stricklers Business College in Topeka. He was employed as a statistical clerk for the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center for 30 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Survivors include one brother, Samuel M. Thompson of Rossville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he was very fond of. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Delia Cemetery. Beloved wife of the late Mahlon Thompson Jr. Dear mother of the late Barbara Bielicki and mother-in-law of David Bielicki of Belgium and Katherine (David) Eurich of Bayside. Preceded in death by her siblings Earl (Disca Ann) Kovar, Betty Kovar and Agnes (Robert) Rafferty. Further survived by 4 grandchildren; Johnathan Bielicki, Christopher Bielicki, August Eurich and Anastasia Eurich; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Evelyn grew up on a farm in Rossville, Kansas and was truly an educator at heart. She was ahead of her time as a woman in both science and education, earning her bachelor's degree in Biological and Physical Science in 1958 and her masters degree in science in 1963, both from Emporia State University. She married Mahlon, the love of her life and also an educator, in 1965. After moving to the Milwaukee area in 1966 she taught at a number of institutions, including spending many years teaching Anatomy and Physiology to nursing students at Milwaukee Area Technical College. She also taught high school students as a science lab instructor for over 20 years at Pius XI high school until she retired in 1996. The number of lives that she touched through her teaching is countless and is something she took pride in during her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking road trips across the United States. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Visitation on Wednesday, May 19th at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home, 10280 N. Pt. Washington Rd., Mequon from 4-6pm. Private burial at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Rossville Christian Church and the Ladies Quilting Group at the church. She also was a member of the Rossville Literary and Music Circle and a past member of the Silver Lake Community Choir. She also was a member of the auxiliary to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville, and she had been active in scouting in Missouri. She married Guy O. Thompson Jr. on Aug. 26, 1949, at Ottawa. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Charlene Ashley, Nevada, Mo.; three sons, Edward Lee Thompson, Salt Lake City, Ronald D. Thompson, Smithville, Mo., and Jeffrey A. Thompson, Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Janeane Butterfield, Overland Park;17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was born July 13, 1927, in Baxter Springs, the son of Guy O., Sr. and Bessie Marshall Thompson. He had lived in rural Topeka since July 1981. He grew up in Baxter Springs; Shreveport, LA; and Richmond, CA. He was graduated from a Richmond high school. He attended Pittsburg Teacher College in Pittsburg, KS and Manhattan Bible College in Manhattan. He had served in the United States Army during World War II. He had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years in Kansas City, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, Amarello, TX, and Topeka. He retired from the Treasury Department of Santa Fe Railroad in 1986. He had worked several years for Amtrack. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Rossville Christian Church and a past member of the Berry Christian Church in North Kansas City, MO. He served on the Gashland Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Rising Sun Lodge #13 in Kansas City North. He was a member of the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville. He was a member of the Shawnee County Fire District No. 4 at Dover, where he served as fire chief for several years. He was married to Gloria Campbell August 26,1949, at Ottawa. She died May 26, 1996. A granddaughter, Catie Thompson, also preceded him in death July 5, 1981. Surviving him are a daughter, Charlene Bolinger, Pittsburg; three sons, E. Lee Thompson, Salt Lake City, UT, Ron Thompson, Blue Springs, MO, and Jeff Thompson, Memphis, TN; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bill was born May 23, 1963, in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He graduated from Junction City High School in 1982, and he went on to study mental health at Washburn University. Bill landed his first job as a case manager for Sheltered Living, kicking off a 17-year career in mental health. In 2007, Bill started at the Topeka V.A. as a pharmacy tech, where he had been employed until his death. Bill was a member of the Rossville Christian Church and the Men’s group there. In 1988, Bill met Carolyn Brian. They were married, going on to have two children, Jami and Briana. Carolyn survives at their home. Other survivors include his daughters, Jami (Jacob) Auldridge, and their children, Draven, Harrison & Oliver, Rossville and Briana (Brent) Gould, and their daughter, Eleanora, Lebo; his brother, Louis Thompson, Hyampom, CA; and his sister, Debbie Haden, Palmdale, CA. He was born June 17, 1906, near Delia, the son of Ludwig and Ella Keller Thompson. He graduated from Delia High School in 1923. He farmed for two years and taught five years in rural schools in Kansas before moving to Fort Collins, Colo., where he worked on farms for six years. He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in economics in 1939. He moved to Bozeman where he received his Master's degree in 1940 from Montana State College. He received his doctorate from Michigan State University in 1953. He taught in the Agricultural Economics and Economics Department at Montana State University for 30 years, retiring in 1973. He represented the university on the Great Plains Agricultural Council for 25 years, helped to establish an appraisal system for farm lands and conducted schools for land appraisers. He made extensive studies of tax structures in four states and wrote bulletins which were used by state legislators. He also authored many publications. He served on three foreign agricultural economic assignments, in El Salvador, Guatemala and Argentina. He was an active member of Bozeman United Methodist Church, Sons of Norway and Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed his family, gardening, carpentry work, camping and traveling. He wrote and published his autobiography and a genealogical history of the Thompson family. In August of 1939, he married Margaret Mellon of Fort Collins, Colo. She survives. | 10379 |  | Obituary- Thompson, Marvin Marvin DeVere Thompson Marvin DeVere Thompson, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at a Topeka hospital. He was born February 13,1933 in Delia, Kansas, the son of Curtis and Eleanor (Simecka) Thompson. In 1951 after graduation from Delia High School, he registered for the draft in Holton. He was soon called in and was sent to Fort Lewis, Washington and later to Camp Henford, Washington where he received training in Guided Missile Systems, located in White Sands, New Mexico. He was released from the Army in 1953, and joined the Kansas Army National Guard the same year. The Guard sent him to radar repair school in Fort Bliss, Texas. Before the completion of this school, he was offered full time employment at the Combined Support Maintenance Shop, in Topeka, Kansas. He accepted and became a National Guard Technician on May 24,1954. He worked in the shop as a communication repair technician. In 1974, he was instrumental in establishing a Calibration department at the CSMS, maintain and calibration of equipment for the Kansas Army National Guard. He developed this program and worked as a Calibrator and Supervisor, in this capacity until 1978, when he was promoted to supervisor of the Communication Repair Section. He performed these duties as supervisor for 15 years until his retirement. He retired at the age of 60 due to loss of military membership in the National Guard. As a technician, he received many excellent and outstanding ratings and accolades. The award he cherished the most was “World’s Greatest Boss”, from Larry, Greg, Myron and Alex. His service in the Kansas Army National Guard totaled 38 years, during which time he worked in many different positions and was promoted accordingly. He was selected as the “State Command Sergeant Major” of the Kansas Army National Guard, this being the highest enlisted position in the Kansas Army National Guard. During the Korean Crisis, he was called to active duty with the 496th Ordinance Group, and sent to Ft Riley, Kansas in support capacity, serving ap-proximately one year. During his military career as a Guardsman and as a Civil Service Technician, he also served in a voluntary capacity as President of the Kansas Enlisted Association. The Association worked for the enhancement and benefits for enlisted Guard members. Marvin served in this position for two years, 1975 to 1977. Marvin was proud of 63 years in the Military for our country. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Deloris of 54 years and four children, Marvin DeVere (Lori) Thompson, II, Debbie (Bud) Bender, Christie Hui linger, Norman (Connie) Whyrick, all of Topeka, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson, two sisters, Vivian Bartello of Morro Bay, California, Arlene Looker of Topeka, one brother, Nels Thompson of Topeka, many nieces, nephews and extended family. He served on the Rossville City Council for six years and had also been a member of the Rossville Community Development Board. Shorty was a Teamsters Union member. On March 4, 1945 he was united in marriage to Helen June Davis in Topeka. She preceded him in death on June 30,2007. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and was a consistent member of that denomination all her life. She came to American in 1866 and settled in Brown county, Kansas. In 1882 she was united in marriage to the late Sivert Thompson who departed this life four years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, in Norway; one step-daughter, and three step-sons and many other relatives and friends. She was born February 5, 1925 at Rossville, the daughter of Dewey and Florence Higgins Countryman. Vena was a 1943 graduate of Rossville High School and was the senior class president. She had lived most of her life in the Delia community. Vena was a homemaker and raised Limousin-Angus cattle until she was 80. She worked for the Jackson Co. Water Dis¬trict No. 2 for over 30 years. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vena was a member of the Delia Presbyterian Church and participated in their quilting group. She married Christopher Donald Thompson on September 11, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Janet Mulanax, son-in-law, Irvan Mulanax, and son, Donald Ray Thompson. Thornburgh was born December 4,1934, at Nortonville, Kansas, one of four children of Hall and Geneva Reeves Thornburgh. He passed away at the Hiawatha Community Hospital, Wednesday afternoon, November 30, 2011, at the age of 76. After Nortonville High School and Baker University, Bob obtained his pharmacy degree and then his law degree from Kansas University. While at Baker during Pharmacy School, Bob served as student pastor for United Methodist Churches, first at Reserve and Morrill, and then at Effingham, Muscotah, and Monrovia. Bob was a Mason, a Methodist, the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, a certified Dale Carnegie instructor, volunteering to teach dozens of classes at the U.S. Army disciplinary barracks at Ft. Leavenworth during the Vietnam War. He also was a Gideon, taught business law at Johnson County Community College, was a Barbershop per, and fast pitch softball pitcher who led his fraternity to the inter-fraternity Hill Championship at Kansas University. Bob was also a member of the Brown County Bar Association; NEK Bar Association; Kansas Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. Although never married, Bob helped to raise two young ladies that were very special to him, Shannon and Sharlyn, who survive. Bob is also survived by a brother, Stan (Polly) Thornburgh of Topeka, their children: Jeri (Tim) Eckhardt of Topeka, Kim (Randy) Lesseski, also of Topeka; a sister Leda (Bill) Smith of Hiawatha, their children: Kevin Wayne Smith of Hiawatha, Lyn- nette (Scott) Wenger of Rossville, Shawn (Sara) Smith of Hia¬watha; Don's children include Jeff (Ann) Thornburgh of Kansas City, and Jerry (Linda) Thornburgh of Topeka; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Don. Bob was blessed to enjoy a wonderful family, fraternity brothers, colleagues and friends. At his request, Bob was cremated with a celebration of Bob's life will be held later in the month. Tibbs SILVER LAKE - Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church here for Mrs. Effie Lavina Tibbs, 95, rural Silver Lake. She died Saturday, Oct. 18, at her home. Robert D. Jensen, Shawnee County deputy district coroner, said Mrs. Tibbs died of asphyxia caused by the weight of a riding lawn mower that came to rest on her after a mowing accident. Mrs. Tibbs had worked at the Topeka Supply Depot during the 1940s. She was born Aug. 7, 1891, at Silver Lake, the daughter of James Wesley and Sarah Elizabeth Pressgrove Moats. She spent her life in the Silver Lake area. Mrs. Tibbs was a member of the Silver Lake United Methodist Church and Grove Extension Homemakers Unit more than 50 years. She completed the Mrs. Flo V. Menninger Bible Course in the 1950s. She was married to Earl Johnson Tibbs Jan. 26, 1927. He died June 8, 1961. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Earline Pugh, Route 2, Mayetta; a son, Edgar Wesley Tibbs, 831 N.W. Dorn Lane, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Ruth E. He was born June 25,1911, at Laclede, the son of Riley and Viola Baxter Timmons. He had lived in the Delia community most of his life. He grew up in the Wamego, Onaga and Laclede communities. He was a farmer and also drove a truck route for Stauffer Publications for 32 years and had over 200,000 miles of accident-free driving. He carried the “Topeka Capital-Journal” at Rossville from 1942 until 1991. He served in the CCC Camp from 1931 until 1933, and built telephone and power lines in Wisconsin. He was married to Cordelia Bell Carley, June 6, 1937, at Wamego. She survives. He was preceded in death by an infant son, George, and another son, Donald Eugene Timmons, in 1990. Surviving him are a daughter, Pauline M. Conley, Delia; a son, Robert Dale Timmons, Topeka; a sister, Betty Kusler, Longmont, Colo., two brothers, Melvin Timmons, Sr., Topeka, and Lyle Timmons, Manhattan; eight grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He will lie in state from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (this afternoon) at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home.
