The little one had been suffering with whooping cough and contracted a severe cold which settled on the lungs producing death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Nelson at the Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon after which the lifeless form was buried in the city cemetery there to await the Master's call when He comes to gather the jewels for His Kingdom. She was born February 6,1921 in Fillmore, Missouri the daughter of Ervin and Neva (Lance) Johnson. On February 26,1941 she married Ed Galster. He preceded her in death. She married Walter James 'Jimmy’ Lund on December 14,1965 in Miami, Oklahoma. Maxine and her husband Ed owned and operated a Grade A dairy farm. She later farmed, with Jimmy, having hogs and beef cattle. She is survived by her husband, Walter 'Jimmy’ Lund of Holton, KS; her son, LeRoy Galster of Holton, KS; her daughter Neva Harris (Butch) of Topeka, KS; her grandson Eddie Harris of Topeka, KS; her sister, Madelia Schreiber of Soldier, KS; her step-daughter, Joanne Day of Holton, KS; 4 step-grandchildren, Samuel Day of Topeka, KS, Carol Eakin (Dennis) of Delia, KS, Becky Macintosh (Rob) of Hoyt, KS and Amy Ross (Jason) of Mayetta, KS; and 4 step-great grandchildren. | 7504 |  | Obituary- Lundin, Dale Man’s Death in Jail Cell Ruled Suicide The body of Dale Louis Lundin, 21, of 835 ˝ N. Topeka, was found hanging in a St. Marys jail cell early Sunday morning, reported W.P. McKinnon, Pottwatomie County sheriff. The young man was reported to have been despondent for some time, the sheriff said. A coroner’s jury ruled the death a suicide. The youth was in jail after being arrested about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on a charge of reckless driving. He was born near Mayetta March 23, 1939, and spent three years in the Army. He was a salesman and parts man for Wester Tire Co. of Topeka. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Nora Patton of Delia; his father, Marlin Lundin, 311 Kansas; and three brothers, George and Ralph Lundin of Delia and Darrell Lundin of Silver Lake. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Delia Presbyterian Church with burial in Delia. Hurley Funeral Home of Rossville is in charge of arrangements. | |
| 7505 |  | Obituary- Lundin, Darrell Darrell W. Lundin Darrell W. Lundin, 64, Mayetta, died Friday evening, April 14, 2000, in the emergency room of a Topeka hospital. He was born March 1, 1936, in Holton, the son of Marlin and Nora Hainline Lundin. Mr. Lundin was employed by the Jackson County Highway Department for 36 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. On January 16, 1960, he was married to Mary Simecka in Delia. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Lori Anne Hinterweger, Rossville; a brother, Ralph Lundin, St. Marys; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale Lundin and Georgie Lundin. Mr. Lundin was cremated. Graveside service and inurnment will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. | |
| 7506 |  | Obituary- Lundin, Erick ERICK A. (SWEDE) LUNDIN Erick A. (Swede) Lundin, 84, of Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born Sept. 30, 1922, in rural Mayetta, the son of Hans and Maude Striegle Lundin. He graduated from grade school in rural Mayetta. He was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and a member and elder of the Central Presbyterian Church in Topeka. Mr. Lundin retired after 30 years of service with Goodyear. He served in the United States Army during the European Theatre in WWII in the Railsplitters Division of the 784th Ordnance Maintenance Company, in Rhineland Central Europe. He married Maxine Z. Murback on February 14,1946 in Holton. They lived in Topeka for 15 years. They made their home in Delia from 1961 until 1979, where he was city mayor for four terms. He was president of the Delia Lions Club, organized and supported the Delia Little League Club for 18 years, a member of Delia United Presbyterian Church. He lived in Ft. Worth, Tex., from 1979 to 1985, where he was a member and elder of the Trinity Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He had lived in Topeka since 1985. He was also a 50 year member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 90. In his early years, Swede enjoyed playing baseball and softball. Later, he became an avid golfer and enjoyed restoring antique furniture. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; a sister Marge Fox of Holton; seven nieces Darlene Ingram, Lorane Ingram, Sharon Daniels, Sharon Ybarra, Wanda Treinan, Linda Lolli, Tammy Varner; 10 nephews Clif Walder, Marion Walder, Bob Fox, Don Fox, Terry Fox, Ralph Lundin, Don Fleeman, John Lundin, Jackie Lee Lundin, Gary Lundin and a host of great nieces and nephews. He was known by them and many others as Uncle Swede. He was preceded in death by four sisters, one half-sister, four brothers, one half-brother, four nephews and a niece. Funeral services were held Monday, March 5 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial was in the Mayetta Cemetery. Lundin Jr., 36, Silver Lake, who died Friday in a Topeka hospital. He had Hodgkins disease. He was born May 27, 1933, at Rossville and lived at Delia and Topeka before he moved to Silver Lake about a year ago. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Delia and the Moose Lodge in Topeka. He was a utility relief operator for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company the past five years. He had served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was married to the former Peggy Myrick. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Debbie Jean Lundin, at home; a son, Larry Ray Lundin, at home; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Lundin Sr., Delia. Mr. Lundin worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 12 years. He later worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co for 31 years. He also worked for Perry State Park for two years. He was an Army veteran. He was born Jan. 22,1928, on the Potawatomie Indian Reservation near Mayetta, the son of Marlin and Nora Hainline Lundin. Mr. Lundin was a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomie Nation and a life member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville. He married Phyllis Cox. She died in 1961. He married Marcella Seele on Oct. 31,1964. She survives. Other survivors include four daughters, June Kraft, Rose Hill, Debra Ledeboer, Maple Hill, Pamela Wehrli, Rossville, and Cheryl Caraway, Delia; two brothers, Darrell Lundin, Mayetta, and Ralph Lundin, St. Marys; and 11 grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in the Delia Cemetery. Post No. 31 of the American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside. She earlier had lived in Mayetta and Topeka. Mrs. Lundin was a member of the Potawatomi Methodist Church west of Mayetta. She married Joseph Nocktonick. He preceded her in death. She married Marlin Lundin September 22, 1961, in Topeka. He died December 19,1977. Survivors include five sons, Joseph E. Nocktonick, Mayetta, Albert L. Nocktonick, Holton, Ralph E. Nocktonick, Topeka, and Richard Nocktonick and Louie Nocktonick, both of Mayetta; a stepson, Ralph Lundin, St. Marys; a sister, Alberta Salcido, Vancouver, WA; 12 grand-children; and two great-grandchildren. Her service was at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home, Holton. Burial was in the Mayetta Cemetery. Relatives and friends met from 7 to 8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Lundin was a farmer and a mechanic and worked for Midwest Auto Supply in Topeka before he retired in 1970. He was a member of Potawatomi United Methodist Church west of Mayetta and the Potawatomi Powwow Club. He was married to Louise Nocktonick September 22, 1961, in Topeka. She survives. A son, Dale Lundin, died in 1961. Other survivors include three sons, Georgie Lundin and Ralph Lundin, both at Delia, and Darrell Lundin, Silver Lake; three brothers, Viteal Lundin and Frank Lundin, both at Mayetta, and Erick Lundin, Delia; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilson and Mrs. Christina Walder, both at Mayetta, Mrs. Anna Lytle and Mrs. Julia Fox, both at Holton, and Mrs. Lena Fleeman, Topeka; and seven grandchildren. He was born October 31, 1911, near Mayetta, the son of Hans and Maud Stregel Lundin and spent his life in the Mayetta area. Mr. Lundin was a member of Prairie Band of the Potawatomi Tribe and the Kansas Horseshoe Association. He played a fiddle for many round and square dances in the area. He was married to Mary F. Marstorf November 7, 1946, in Hiawatha. She survives. Other survivors include a son, John Ray Lundin, King’s Mountain, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Thora Armstrong, Rossville; four sisters, Mary Wilson, Ann Lytle and Julia Margaret “Margie” Fox, all of Holton, and Lena Fleeman, Topeka; two brothers, Eric Lundin, Topeka, and Frank “Jack” Lundin, Mayetta; and a granddaughter. Services were 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial was in Mayetta Cemetery. Mr. Lutz was born April 4, 1913, at Holton, the son of John F. and Carrie Elizabeth Montgomery Lutz. Mr. Lutz had lived in the Delia area until 18 years ago, when he moved outside of Silver Lake. The Lutzes moved into Silver Lake one year ago. Mr. Lutz graduated from Denison High School in 1931. He was a member of Silver Lake Baptist Church. Mr. Lutz was a farmer and stockman. He was married to Garnet M. Wood in Lyndon, 52 years ago. She survives at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joyce A. Simecka, Boulder City, Nev., and Carol E. Wallace, Topeka; two brothers, his twin, Chester Lutz, Holton, and Oscar Lutz, Mayetta; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at the Parker- Price Mortuary with the Reverend Eric Deeter officiating. Interment was in the Delia Cemetery. She was born May 14, 192,1 in southern Wabaunsee County, on the Aye Ranch, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Edith Conwell Stellwagen. She was a hairdresser, owning several shops in Alma, Manhattan, and Topeka. After leaving Kansas she moved to South Padre Island, Texas, and worked there with the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce. She then moved to Cocoa, Fla., where she worked again as a hairdresser and as a CNA caring for clients in their homes until her retirement. She returned to Kansas in 2001. She enjoyed working in her yard, horses, square dancing, sewing and travel. She married Arthur Metzger on Sept. 9, 1939, in Alma. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1961. Survivors include two sons, Joe Metzger, and his wife, Heidi, Buras, La., and Michael Lyda, address unknown; a daughter, Sally Lesline, and her husband, Jim, Wamego; a brother, L.E. Stellwagen, Perry; a sister, Hester Cameron, Salina; two sister-in-laws, Ann Geiser, McFarland and Lola Sommer, Riverside, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Deraid Metzger, and an infant daughter. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in McFarland. The Rev. Jeffrey Geske will be officiating. Burial will follow at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Alma. Mr. Lynch managed a liquor store. He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was born July 18, 1933, in Topeka, the son of Paul and Ella Pekarek Lynch. He had lived in California from 1950 to 1961 when he returned to Topeka. Mr. Lynch was a member of Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, North Post No. 400 of the American Legion and a Fraternal Order of Eagles aerie. He was 89. Mr. Lynde was a retired farmer. He was born March 25, 1890, in Ontario, Kan., but lived in Butler County since 1934. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. On November 11, 1911, Mr. Lynde was married to Edna Lee Reser. She died in December of 1964. He was married to Georgia Kingery on October 8, 1965. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Elmer Lynde, Rossville, Ks., Raymond Lynde, Shreveport, La., and Dale Lynde, Arnold, Mo.; two stepsons, Darvin McWilliams' and Marvin Kingery, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Mae Osborne and Mrs. Iona Lee, both of Plains, Ks., and Mrs. Louise Haag, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Borders, Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Mrs. Joyce Van Buren, Chicago, Ill.; 31 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren. He was born March 17, 1914, in Junction City, the son of Alfred and Edna Reser Lynde. Mr. Lynde was a member of Peoples State Bank Rollers at Rossville. He was married to Ethelyn Hook July 17, 1937. in Helena, Mont. She survives. She spent many years in the Rossville and St. Marys communities before she moved to Missoula several years ago. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Altar Society at the church and the Literary Club, all in Rossville. She married Elmer Edwin Lynde July 17, 1937, in Helena, Mont. She was born January 6,1911, in Junction City, to Clyde Monroe and Edna Emert Pearl Hook. Ethelyn attended Rossville Grade School and graduated from St. Marys High School. She attended St. Mary’s College for Women in Leavenworth. She taught at the Stone and James rural schools near Rossville, and spent many years in the Rossville arid St. Marys communities before she moved to Missoula after the death of her husband in 1993. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Altar Society at the church, and the Rossville Literary and Music Circle, all in Rossville. On July 17, 1937, she married Elmer Edwin Lynde in Helena, MT. They lived nearly 10 years in the Helena and Billings area. With the end of WWII, they returned to the Rossville/St. Marys area, where they lived until after Mr. Lynde’s death. He died October 1,1993. She was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy E. Lynde, and a half-brother, John K. Pearl. Survivors include a son, Dr. Loren Lynde Rogers, Missoula, MT; A daughter, Mona Louise Lynde, Topeka; and six grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery. | 7550 |  | Obituary- Lynde, Minnie Obituary. The Angel of Death hath again entered our home and taken from our midst a dear one, to dwell in that land where sorrow and parting are not known. Minnie Elva Lynde, youngest child of B.C. Lynde, was born near Ontario, Jackson county, Kas., September 24, 1892. At the age of ten years, she moved with her father, to St. Marys and the following year, to the farm 5 miles east of town, which has since been her home. A little more than a year ago her health began to fail and since that time, all that loving hands could do was done to restore her to health, but all in vain. God relieved her suffering and called her to her Heavenly home May 15, 1912. Her mother having been called away when Minnie was but a babe of but three years old, her rearing was entrusted to the care of her father. She leaves a father, four sisters and brothers; Mrs. A.H. Dibbern near Emmett, A.F. Lynde Goffs, Mrs. M.W. Richardson Marlow Okla., Mrs. J.W. Tatterfield Wakarusa, Mrs. C.H. Parrett Oskaloosa and A.E. Lynde Rossville, and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. Two sisters and one brother having preceded her to the home above. The funeral services were held at the home on the morning of May 17th at 8 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Geo. A. Chatfield, Rossville, and the remains taken to Ontario for interment by the side of her mother. The services at the grave were conducted by the Methodist minister, and the pall bearers were girl friends from around Ontario. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the whole community. Her face though fair as a lily, In slumber now shall rest, And her Soul with God above us In Heaven shall be blest. With the Angels 'round the gateway, She will with Jesus stand, Until one by one we join them In that fair and Heavenly land. [From May 1912] |
