    Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Attebury were the guests of the Owen and Attebury families at a dinner given at the home of their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Attebury, last Sunday in honor of their golden wedding anniversary which occurred on Monday, October 1.

This was one of the outstanding social gatherings of the season, and clear skies and bright sunshine made perfect the celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Attebury.

The colors of gold and white were used in the table decorations of marigolds and ferns; potted chrysanthemums, a gift of the Owen family, and rose buds, a gift of a life-long friend of Mrs. Attebury, Mrs. Effie Hubbard of Topeka.

The napkins used at the guests table were a wedding gift of Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Attebury. The beautifully decorated bride’s cakes were made by nieces of Mr. and Mrs. Attebury, Mrs. L.M. Attebury and Mrs. Paul Button of Topeka; and the groom’s cakes were made by Mrs. D.L. Button and Mrs. F.M. Welton of Topeka, sisters of Mrs. Attebury.

A miniature bride and groom, perfect in every detail, from the lilies of the valley in the arms of the bride, to the watch chain and high silk hat of the groom, were attractive table decorations, made by Mrs. Lawrence Attebury of Topeka.

Mrs. Attebury was presented with a beautiful Past Matron’s pin of the Eastern Star, and Mr. Attebury received a belt and buckle and tie clasp embossed with the insignia of the Masonic order, from the members of the Owen family.

Mrs. Attebury grew to womanhood in the Rochester neighborhood near Topeka. She taught school for two years previous to her marriage, in the Lipp district south of Rossville.

Mr. Attebury was born east of Lawrence at a town called Franklin, coming to the present home place in the year 1876, where he brought his bride, Miss Martha Owen following their marriage at her home at Rochester, October 1, 1884.

Mr. and Mrs. Attebury, both 74 years of age, are enjoying good health and are reaping a happy harvest in contentment and well-being from the successful years spent on their farm.

The guests included: Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Attebury, Mrs. D.L. Button, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Adelbert Button, Mr. and Mrs. F.M.
