    honored at surprise celebration
On Sunday afternoon, September 14, the members of the Rossville Christian Church and a number of visitors honored Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Hayes with a surprise celebration of the Hayes’ 50th wedding anniversary.

The festivities began with a fellowship basket dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Vance Crawford. Following this, the honored couple opened their many beautiful gifts. A mixed quartet sang, “Under His Wings” and “The Old Rugged Cross” to provide special music for the occasion.

To complete the program, Mrs. Millicent Renwan read her own adaptation of “This is Your Life.”
addressed, of course, to Bert and
Bessie Hayes. Herb Trimble acted as master of ceremonies.

Relatives present for the celebration were Mrs. Nora Lowry, sister of Mr. Hayes, and her son Hayes Lowry of Abilene, Kansas; Bernice Kalcher, Junction City; the three daughters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wyker and Pam of St. Marys, Mrs. Pauline Henderson, Carrollton, Mo., and Mrs. Audrey Gelsinger and two sons of Overland Park, Kansas.

Other out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Art Buchmeier, Topeka, Betty Willis and Bobbie, Topeka, Mrs. U. L. Trenton, Enid, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Barney, Hoyt, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Warner Rogers, Dover.

Kansas; and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wyker and Pam of St. Marys, Kansas, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hayes. Although the date doesn’t fall until September 16 and their sons, Glenn of Phoenix and Lowell of Tucson, Arizona, couldn’t be with them, the four daughters presented them with a lovely gold-trimmed wedding cake and took pictures of the couple in the 1958 fashion.
