Mrs. G.E.R. White is courting his wife again. Next week they will exchange marriage vows – the second time in 50 years. Being married 50 years is reason enough for celebrating and the Whites are honoring the occasion by again repeating the vows that were the beginning of their happy life together.

Mr. White is a man with many names, and there lies a tale. His father’s name was George White. And when the elder Mr. White came to this country from England, he discovered how common his two names were. He, therefore, added a middle name to his signature, but even that didn’t help a lot in this new world of many Whites.

When he married, he was determined that his children would not be plagued with this problem of identity. This is the reason for the G.E.R. in front of Mr. White’s name. He has three first names.

It didn’t end there either. Mr. and Mrs. White carried on the tradition, giving their two sons three first names. C.R.H. White and L.W.V. White. The grandsons, I understand, have also been given this abundance of initials so that they will be easily identified from all the other Whites in this country.

G.E.R. White keeps a very busy schedule. He does most of the housework since his wife is an invalid, but he finds time to spend with his hobby of raising flowers. Besides an abundance of house plants, he raises the most beautiful peonies I’ve ever seen. I have enjoyed receiving several bouquets of these prize spring flowers.

Congratulations to the Whites and may this new marriage be as happy as the old one.

Whites to Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. G.E.R. White of Rossville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, December 18, at the Rossville Community Center. They will re-enact their marriage vows at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Waugh officiating at the ceremony. Following the ceremony, an open house will be held in their honor.

No invitations are being issued and no gifts are expected. The couple will be pleased to greet all their friends and relatives following the ceremony until 4 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. White were married December 16, 1915 at Masena, New York and moved immediately to Kansas taking up residence in Topeka in 1916 where they resided until 1958.

Mr. White has been active in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 226 of Topeka over the past 50 years and is now a pension member of that organization. He has been involved in a number of business enterprises in the Topeka area.

Mr. White retired in 1956 and the couple moved to the Rossville community in 1958, and have resided here since.

Hosts for the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary will be the couple’s two sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Charles R.H. White and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W.V. White, and a foster son, Earl E. Davis, and two nieces and their families, Mrs. Leona Wilson and Mrs. Margaret Mandeville.

The couple has four grandsons and a granddaughter.
