  Documents		Anniversary- Carver, Steven and Maxine Carver 50th Wedding Anniversary Steven and Maxine (Tomasek) Carver celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a small gathering in Maple Hill. They were united in marriage on June 29, 1968, at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. Maxine began teaching business classes at St. Marys High School in August 1967. She retired from there in May 2001. Steve served in the U.S. Army until January 1969. He then worked at the Goodyear Tire Company until retiring in November 2000. They are the parents of David and Marc, and the grandparents of Tyler, Garrett, Jacob, and Isaac.

  Obituary- Carver, Maxine Maxine Fay Carver, 73, died quietly in her sleep on January 28, 2019, at KU Med center. Maxine was born to George and Velma (Pitcher) Tomasek on November 18, 1945, in Anthony, Kansas. She was raised in the rural Caldwell, Kansas, area along with two older sisters. Maxine attended the Caldwell Public school system. She attended Emporia State University graduating with a BA degree in Business Education in January, 1967, and then a MS degree from Kansas State University in August, 1972. She taught at Rosedale High School in Kansas City, Kansas for the spring semester of 1967. Maxine then moved to St. Marys, Kansas, for the fall of 1967 and taught business courses at St. Marys High School for 34 years. She was also the Future Business Leaders of America advisor for St. Marys High School for 23 years. Maxine also taught various business courses during the evenings for Highland Junior College at St. Marys, and for Washburn University in Topeka. After retirement, Maxine substitute taught in Rossville and St. Marys. Maxine was a member of the Kaw Valley Education Association, Kansas Education Association, and the National Education Association. Maxine was also listed in the National Who’s Who in High Schools of America. Maxine was also a member of the Rossville Christian Church. She was also a member of the Czech Moravan Lodge and served as the secretary and was honored as the 2018 Fraternalist of the year for the Moravan Lodge 128. Maxine also served as the treasurer for the City of Rossville. Mrs. Carver was known for having a great interest in crocheting, crafts, and reading. She was a big fan of mysteries. She was a member of the Rossville Library Book Club. In her youth, she enjoyed horseback riding. Maxine was united in marriage to Steven Lyle Carver on June 29, 1968. He survives. Maxine is also survived by her two sons, David L. Carver, Manhattan, and Marc A. Carver (Jill) of Topeka. Her grandchildren are Tyler, Garrett, and Jacob of Topeka, and Isaac of Texas. Maxine was preceded in death by both of her parents and sister Lucy Ashley of Shawnee Mission, KS. Surviving sibling is her sister, Georgia Ann Neal (Bill) of Caldwell, Kansas. Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Rossville Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to Maxine Carver memorial fund for the grandkids education and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, KS. 66536.
