    Mrs. R.S. Gabbey Passes Away.
A few minutes after 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning, January 8, 1901, Mrs. R.S. Gabbey breathed her last. Three weeks before her death the unfortunate lady suffered a severe stroke of paralysis from which she rallied within a few days and then suddenly became worse, lingering in the semi-comatose condition until her spirit fled.

The funeral was held from the family residence at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon and the services were under the direction of Rev. J.G. Maver, whose intimate friendship with the deceased lady and her family dates back nearly a quarter of a century. Mr. Maver's long and thorough acquaintance enabled him to pay a loving tribute to the memory of the sweet Christian woman and his tender eulogy touched every heart present.

Members of the Presbyterian choir rendered a number of very beautiful hymns -- favorite melodies of their lamented sister -- and scores of family friends passed through the little parlor to obtain a final view of the loved face resting in the flower-laden casket.

Mrs. Alice McCabe of Denver, Mr. Frank Gabbey and Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Gutshall of Pueblo, Col., Mrs. J. Owens and Mr. Albert W. Gabbey were present at the final parting with their mother. Their keen affliction is shared by nearly every member of this community, where the deceased lady so long resided and where her lovely attributes of mind and character were so well known.

Mrs. Gabbey survived her husband, the late Dr. R.S. Gabbey, a little less than one year. She was 64 years of age. She was closely identified with the growth of this part of Kansas, and the News expects in its next issue to present an obituary notice embodying much of historic interest to the rapidly diminishing ranks of early day pioneers.
