    Mary Maxine Beseau
    Mary Maxine Beseau, 74, St. Marys, died Monday, June 8, 998, at the St. Marys Health Center.

    She was born December 21, 1923, in Topeka, the daughter of Joseph V. and Georgia C. Carley Woody.
    She had lived in the St. Marys community many years.

    Mary grew up in the Kaw Valley region. She was graduated from St. Marys High School in 1942. She and her husband owned and operated the Blue Ribbon Dry Cleaners in St. Marys many years. She was a bookkeeper for Miller Department Store in St. Marys for several years, and had been the bookkeeper for the St. Marys United Methodist Church for several years. Mary worked at the “St. Marys Star” in the ’80s as a receptionist. She was a member of the St. Marys United Church, the Ho Menninger Bible Study class, a 50- year member of the Eastern Star, a member of the Hoy-Heim American Legion Auxiliary, the St. Marys Senior Citizens, the B.P.W. and the A.B.W.A.

    She was married to Henry W. “Whistle” Beseau on March 16, 1942, at Corpus Christi, Tex. He died July 20, 1985.

    Surviving her are two sons, James Beseau, Chanute, and Wayne Beseau, Topeka; two daughters, Jolyne Wehner, Rossville, and Kathieen Rankin, St. Marys; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
    Her service was at 10:30 Saturday morning at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. An Eastern Star service was conducted by Loyal Chapter No. 176, Silver Lake. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery. Friends and relatives met from 7 until 8 Friday evening at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association, and sent in care of the funeral home.
