 | Obituary- Martin, Mary J. Mary Jane (Krasny) Martin
SILVER LAKE – Mary Jane (Krasny) Martin, 89, of Silver Lake, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022. She and her twin, Marie Jean Harden, were born May 6, 1932, to Rudolph and Wilma Krasny of Delia, KS. Mary spent her childhood in the Delia/Rossville area, graduating from Rossville High School.
Mary married Charles Martin on August 30, 1951, in Topeka. They were married 66 years. Charlie proceeded her in death on February 10, 2017. Mary and Charlie enjoyed their four “girls,” Peggy (Joe) Pistora, Karen (Terry) Hay, Mary “Diane” (Ron) Martinek and Nancy (Bob) Pfannenstiel, ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Mary was a wonderful mother and excelled at being a grandmother. In the early days, she spent many days at softball fields and at lakes fishing, camping and skiing. She was a talented self-taught painter, who enjoyed sharing her artistic creations with many. Mary took pride in living independently, including gardening, and mowing with her new zero-turn mower. The Silver Lake Senior Center and friends were an important part of Mary’s life.
Mary always enjoyed watching kids and grandchildren’s events. She drove the Silver Lake school bus for many years, allowing the kids to have a water balloon fight on the last day of school so the bus could be washed out.
Visitation will be held at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Building in Rossville, KS on May 6, 2022, from 5pm-7pm in honor of Mary’s 90th birthday. The family will hold a private graveside service.
The Family wishes to thank all the highly skilled and compassionate Healthcare workers who cared for Mary at Stormont Vail. Memorial contributions may be made to the USD 372 Silver Lake School Foundation, c/o Mary Martin, PO Box 39, Silver Lake, KS 66539
