ST. MARYS --- Helen Green Berry, 92, Lenexa, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Lenexa.
She was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Silver Lake, to Charles and Margaret Coughlin Green. She had lived in the Silver Lake community most of her life.
Upon graduating from Silver Lake High School in 1928, she entered St. Mary's College in Leavenworth, graduating in 1932. She was appointed postmaster at Silver Lake in 1933 under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville.
Parting is such a sweet sorrow.
She was married to Marvin A. Berry on April 5, 1940, at Perry. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1974. She also was preceded in death by a son, Marvin A. Barry Jr. and a daughter, Mary Berry.
Survivors include two sons, William J. "Bill" Berry, Prairie Village, and John Berry, Bonner Springs; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m Wednesday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. |
