| Anniversary- Stalker, Winfred and Anna Stalker Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Stalker celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Sunday, August 13, 1950, at their home in Rossville. Mrs. Stalker was formerly Miss Anna Ward, daughter of pioneer farmers of Adrian, Mr. and Mrs. John Ward. She and Mr. Stalker were married at the home of her parents, with relatives and close friends present. They have resided in Jackson and Shawnee counties all their married life. They are the parents of five children, Mrs. Halcie Cerny of Rossville; Dr. Clinton L. Stalker of Topeka; Glen Stalker of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Bess Lauck of Palo Alto, Calif.; and Capt. Orville Stalker of El Paso, Texas.
There was a beautiful three-tiered wedding cake with gold trimmings on a lovely lace tablecloth and bouquets of yellow roses and gladioli.
Mrs. Halcia Cerny poured at the punch bowl and Misses Edith and Marcia Cerny, granddaughters assisted. Marcia, dressed in an orchid formal, served and Edith, dressed in a blue formal had charge of the guest book.
Many nice gifts were received and a large number of cards. Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Fawcett, of Denver, formerly of Topeka, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Gladys, to Mr. Glen Stalker, of San Francisco, Calif., son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Stalker, of Rossville. The wedding will take place Christmas Eve in the United Presbyterian church in Denver.
The Fawcett family lived in Topeka until moving to Wichita a few years ago. They later moved to Denver. Gladys, vivacious and attractive, attended Washburn college where she became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and later was a student in Kansas university. |
| Engagement- Fawcett, Gladys-Stalker, Glen 2 Mr. Stalker distinguished himself as captain of the football team during his senior year in Washburn. He was prominent in college activities and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Following his graduation from Washburn, Mr. Stalker took a two-year course in the Graduate School of Business of Leland Stanford university, where he received his M.B.A. degree. He is now associated with E.F. Sutton & Co., a brokerage firm, in San Francisco, where he and his bride will make their home.
The news of the approaching marriage is of much interest in Topeka and Rossville, where the families of the young couple are well known. Mr. and Mrs. Stalker plan to go to Denver for the wedding. |

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Private services were held here for Glenn Stalker, 78, Sacramento. a former Kansan, who died Sunday, March 6, 1988, at a Sacramento hospital.
Mr. Stalker was chief executive officer of the California Almond Growers Exchange 15 years before he retired in 1975.
He was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Kirk County, Colo., the son of Ben and Anna Ward Stalker. He grew up in Rossville, Kan., and attended Rossville schools. He later attended Washburn College in Topeka where he was captain of the football team in 1934. He was graduated from Leland Stanford University School of Business at Palo Alto.
Mr. Stalker was named to the Washburn University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1983.
He was a member of Del Paso Country Club and president of the club in 1972 and 1973. He also was a member of the Grandfather's Club. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge and Royal Order of Jesters.
He was married to Gladys Fawcett Dec. 24, 1936, at Denver, Colo. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Craig Stalker and Gary Stalker, both of Sacramento. and Richard Stalker, Reno, Nev.; a sister, Mrs. Kathryn “Beth'' Lauck, Woodland. Calif.; two brothers, Orville Stalker, El Paso, Texas, and Clinton Stalker Sr., Satanta, Kan.; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Stalker was cremated. Inurnment will be in East Lawn Cemetery at Sacramento. Memorial contributions may be made to United Parkinson's Foundation, 560 W. Superior, Chicago, 60604. East Lawn Mortuary in Sacramento was in charge of arrangements.
