| Anniversary- Stalker, Winfred and Anna Stalker Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Stalker celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Sunday, August 13, 1950, at their home in Rossville. Mrs. Stalker was formerly Miss Anna Ward, daughter of pioneer farmers of Adrian, Mr. and Mrs. John Ward. She and Mr. Stalker were married at the home of her parents, with relatives and close friends present. They have resided in Jackson and Shawnee counties all their married life. They are the parents of five children, Mrs. Halcie Cerny of Rossville; Dr. Clinton L. Stalker of Topeka; Glen Stalker of Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Bess Lauck of Palo Alto, Calif.; and Capt. Orville Stalker of El Paso, Texas.
There was a beautiful three-tiered wedding cake with gold trimmings on a lovely lace tablecloth and bouquets of yellow roses and gladioli.
Mrs. Halcia Cerny poured at the punch bowl and Misses Edith and Marcia Cerny, granddaughters assisted. Marcia, dressed in an orchid formal, served and Edith, dressed in a blue formal had charge of the guest book.
Many nice gifts were received and a large number of cards. Francis Orville Stalker, 84, El Paso, TX, died Tuesday, October 3, 2000, at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, TX.
He was born November 30, 1915, in St Clere, the youngest of five children of Winfred Arthur and Frances Anna Ward Stalker. He was reared in Rossville and graduated from Rossville Rural High School in 1934. He graduated from Washburn University, Topeka, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and from the University of Kansas City (MO) with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
From 1938 to 1943, he was a member of the Topeka Fire Department. Upon completion of his dental training, he entered private practice in Topeka with his brother, Dr. Clinton L. Stalker, Sr. in 1946, then accepted a commission as an officer of the U.S. Army Dental Corps in 1949. Mr. Stalker’s military service took him and his family to assignments at Frankfurt and Landstuhl, Germany; Vicenza, Italy; Kansas City, MO; Fort Sam Houston, TX; Fort Knox, KY; and Fort Lewis, WA. His career culminated at Fort Bliss, TX, with an assignment at William Beaumont Army Hospital as Chief of Oral Surgery in 1968. He received the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct upon his retirement as a full colonel in the "Dental Corps in 1970. He retired with his wife to El Paso, where they lived for the next 30 years.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Kathleen Pelfrey, on April 8, 1939, and celebrated 56 years of marriage before she died in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Lynn Stalker, Mary Esther, FL, and Orville Kent Stalker, Lubbock, TX; a sister, Elizabeth Lauck, Woodland, CA; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Center Chapel No. 1 in Fort Bliss, TX. Burial was in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

EL PASO, Texas — Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Center Chapel No. 1 in Fort Bliss, Texas, for Francis Orville Stalker, 84, El Paso. He died Tuesday, Oct. 3 2000, at an El Paso hospital.
Mr. Stalker was a dentist and had maintained a private practice in Topeka, Kan., from 1946 to 1949. He later served in the Army Dental Corps and his career culminated at Fort Bliss, where he was chief of oral surgery at William Beaumont Army Hospital until he retired in 1970. He received the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct when he retired at the rank of full colonel. He also had been a firefighter in Topeka from 1938 to 1943.
He was born Nov. 30,1915, in Saint Clere, Kan., the son of Winfred Arthur and Frances Anna Ward Stalker. He was raised in Rossville, Kan., and he graduated from Washburn Municipal University of Topeka. He earned a doctor of dental surgery degree at the University of Kansas City, Mo.
He married Kathleen Pelffrey on April 8,1939. She preceded him in death in 1997,
Survivors include two sons, Roger Lynn Stalker, in Florida, and Orville Kent Stalker, Lubbock, Texas: a sister, Elizabeth Lauck, Woodland, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
