    Donald D. Benedict
    Donald D. Benedict, 66, Topeka, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at his home. He had colon cancer.

    Mr. Benedict was a science teacher and a coach and had taught at Rossville Grade School, area junior high schools, Perry- Lecompton High School, Silver Lake High School, Northern Heights High School in Admire, and Mission Valley High School. He retired in 1991 at Northern Hill Junior High School. He was a park ranger in the U.S. Corps of Engineers at Lake Perry during the summer. He served in the Navy, from 1949 to 1950 and again from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean war.

    He was born January 10, 1931, in Emporia, the son of Verle Daniel and Lillian B. Moore Benedict. He was graduated from Eskridge High School in 1949. He was graduated from Washburn University in 1960.

    Mr. Benedict was a member of Post No. 58 of the American Legion and the Red Dale Camping Club.

    He was married to Ruth Kraus in December 1950. They were divorced. He later was married to Shirley D. Blankenship on February 27, 1954, in Las Vegas. She survives.
    Other survivors include three sons, Bryce Benedict and Mike Kraus, both of Topeka, and Dennis Benedict, Grantville; two daughters, Linda Benedict and Diana Ratz, both of Topeka; a brother, Arnold Benedict, Norwalk, Calif.; a sister, Laura Lou Tuggle, Mount Olive, Miss.; and six grandsons. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nocole Michelle Benedict, on July 7, 1985.

    Services were at 1:00 Monday at the Parker-Price Mortuary. Burial with military graveside honors conducted by a Fort Riley military detail were in Memorial Park Cemetery. Relatives and friends met at the mortuary from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
