Mrs. Ruby B. Freel, 86, Topeka, died Wednesday, March 8, 1989, at a Topeka convalescent home.
Mrs. Freel was a cook at Washburn University from 1955 to 1972.
She was born June 8, 1902, at Rossville, the daughter of Albert and Rosa Young Bixby. She grew up and attended school in Rossville.
Mrs. Freel was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church and worked at church camps.
She was married to James Ray Freel Dec. 22, 1920, at Rossville. He died June 15, 1966. A son, Billy Freel, was killed in military action May 6, 1944.
Survivors include three sons, James R. Freel Jr., Alameda, Calif., and Glen Freel and Larry Freel, both of Topeka; a daughter, Janice Lundy, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Oscar Bixby, Rossville; two sisters, Vernadel Macha, Delia and Melba Ziegler, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 2401 Belle, 66614.
