    Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner, St. Marys, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception to be given by their children Sunday, June 4 in the Centennial building in St. Marys.

    Friends and relatives are invited to call between 2 and 4 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Wehner ask that no gifts be presented.

    Mr. and Mrs. Wehner were married June 6, 1917 in Wien, Mo. Mr. Wehner has operated grocery stores in St. Marys and Delia for many years. After living in Delia 36 years, they have been residents of St, Marys since 1955.

    They are the parents of seven children, who are: Mrs. James Doyle, Colville, Wash.; Mrs. Ray Rezac and Mrs. John Simecka, St. Marys; Clarence, Wehner and John Wehner, Rossville; Melvin Wehner, Eudora; and Francis Wehner, Sharon Springs. There are 27 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

    To celebrate Golden Wedding

    Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner, St. Marys, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Sunday, June 4, at a reception hosted by their children.

    The reception will be held at the Centennial Building in St. Marys. Friends and relatives are invited to call between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Wehner request that no gifts be presented.

    Mr. Wehner came to St. Marys in 1915 and operated a grocery store.

    They were married at Wien, Mo., June 6, 1917.

    In 1919 they moved to Delia and spent 36 years in the grocery business there. Since 1955 they have been residents of St. Marys, at 209 East Palmer Street.

    They are the parents of seven children.

    Mrs. James (Irene) Doyle, Colvill, Wash.; Clarence Wehner and John Wehner, both of Rossville; Melvin Wehner, Eudora; Francis Wehner, Sharon Springs; Mrs. Ray (Katharine) Rezac and Mrs. John (Florence) Simecka, both of St. Marys.

    Wehner’s Celebrate 55 Years

    Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner, St. Marys, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Sunday with a 10:00 mass at the Immaculate Conception Church which was followed by a dinner for 65 people in the Centennial Building.

    Their seven children were here to help celebrate this festive occasion in the lives of their parents. Mrs. Irene Doyle, Spokane, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wehner, Rossville, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wehner, Rossville, Mrs. Katherine Rezac, St. Marys, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Simecka, St. Marys, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wehner, Eudora, Mr. and Mrs. Francis E. Wehner, Sharon Springs, were here. A number of their grandchildren and great grandchildren also came.

    Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Stallman, Independence, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Stallman and Mrs. Anna Kamphaus, Kansas City, Mo. are Mrs. Wehner’s brothers and sister and also were here to attend the mass and dinner.

    John Wehners Celebrate 59th Anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner, St. Marys, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Sunday, August 22, with a family picnic and reunion held in Riverside Park.

    Fifty-five relatives were among the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren attending and sharing in the bountiful meal.

    Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner, St. Marys, will be honored with a 60th wedding anniversary reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, in their home at 209 E. Palmer. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. The couple requests that no gifts be presented.

    62nd Anniversary for the John Wehners

    Mr. John J. Wehner and Miss Mary Stallman were married June 6, 1917, at Wien, Mo., and this year are observing their 62nd year of marriage. The couple has lived in St. Marys since October, 1955, moving to the community from Delia where they operated a grocery store for 36 years.

    The Wehners are the parents of seven children--Mrs. Irene Doyle, Spokane, Wash.; Clarence and John A., Rossville; Melvin, Eudora; Francis, Sharon Springs; Mrs. Katie Rezac and Mrs. Florence Simecka, St. Marys.

    Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Koci announce the marriage of their daughter, Nina Bernice to Mr. Melvin G. Wehner, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner which took place at 10:00 o'clock Thursday, October 12, at the Sacred Heart Church in Delia, Kansas. Reverend Father M.J. McManus read the double ring ceremony before an altar decorated with gold and bronze mums pompoms and ferns. Miss Bonnie Mailler, organist and vocalist, sang "The Lord's Prayer," "On This Day Oh Beautiful Mother," and "Oh Lord I am Not Worthy."

    The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white satin with a fitted bodice, long sleeves tapering to points over the hands. A row of tiny satin covered buttons extended down the center of the back to the bustle and ended in an aisle wide train. Her fingertip veil of illusion was held in place by a halo of white satin with orange blossoms at the sides and she carried a white orchid bouquet on a white prayer book trimmed with satin streamers. Her only jewelry was a strand of pearls, a gift of the groom.

    Miss Laurita Cowan was the maid of honor. She wore a gown of cocoa brown satin with fitted bodice and matching overskirt of nylon net. Her headdress was a bonnet of brown satin and net and she wore matching mitts. She carried a cascade bouquet of gold and bronze chrysanthemums with satin streamers. The matron of honor was Mrs. Albert Evans and the bridesmaid was Miss Gladys Koci sister of the bride. Mrs. Evans wore gold satin and Miss Koci wore turquoise satin gowns styled like the maid of honor's gown. They carried bouquets of gold and bronze mums.

    Mr. Clarence Wehner attended his brother as best man. Mr. Franics Wehner and Mr. Johnnie Wehner brothers of the groom, were groomsmen. The ushers were Mr. Albert Evans and Mr. Loren Hammel.

    The flower girls were Linda Jean Simecka and June Marie Wehner, nieces of the groom. They wore floor length dresses of pink and aqua taffeta. Johnnie Lee Wehner, nephew Billie Joe Rezac, also a nephew of the groom, carried the rings on a gold Chrysanthemum.

    Mrs. Koci, mother of the bride, wore black floral crepe dress with grey and black accessories. Mrs. Wehner, mother of the groom, wore a dress of black crepe with black accessories. Both mothers wore corsages of pink and white carnations.

    A wedding breakfast followed the ceremony at the home of the groom's parents and a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Mrs. Ivan Beach, sister of the bride cut the wedding cake. Assisting at the punch bowl were Misses Virginia Pence and Elaine Cowan. Miss Dorothy Gantz had charge of the guest book.

    For traveling the bride wore a beige suit with green accessories and an orchid corsage. After a short wedding trip the couple will return to Delia until the groom leaves for the armed forces, the 23rd of October. The bride is a member of the Beta Psi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and is employed by the Veterans Administration.

    Announcements are out for the marriage of Mr. Melvin Wehner, and Miss Nina Koci, both of Delia. The wedding will take place Thursday, October 12, at Delia.

    Mr. Wehner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Wehner, of Delia and Miss Koci is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alred Koci of Delia.

    Melvin and Nina Weimer of Eudora will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at Kim’s Barn at 934 E. 2100 Road at Eudora.

    Melvin Wehner and Nina Koci were married Oct. 12,1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church parish in Delia.

    Hosting the reception will be their children. Doug and Ginger Wehner; Greg and Beth Wehner, Lawrence; and Karen and David Hull, Wamego; and the couple’s seven grandchildren.

    Mr. Wehner served in the U.S. Army from 1950 1952. He owned and operated grocery stores in St. Marys and Sunflower Village. He was a licensed real estate agent and then owned Wehner Retail Liquor in Lawrence. He retired in May.

    Mrs. Wehner helped in the family grocery store, then was employed at OCL (later M-PACT) in Eudora for 15 years. She retired in 1995.

    Melvin George Wehner

    Mass of Christian burial for Melvin George Wehner, 93, Lawrence, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Eudora. He passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Neuvant House of Lawrence.

    He was born on October 6, 1926 in Delia, KS the son of John and Mary (Stallman) Wehner.

    He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

    Melvin owned and operated the family grocery business in Sunflower Village and later owned and operated Wehner Retail Liquor in Lawrence. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, 3rd degree knight with the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

    He served on the City of Eudora Planning Commission, was on the Board of Directors for the Eudora Nursing Homes, and was a Board Member of the National Retail Liquor Association.

    He married Nina B. Koci on October 12, 1950 in Delia, KS. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2013.

    Survivors include his children; Doug (Ginger) Wehner, Greg (Beth) Wehner, Karen (David) Hull, seven grandchildren; Shannon Cates, Allison (Aaron) Swaim, Mathew (Dyan) Wehner, Brandon Hull, Lacey (Doug) Brown, Stacey (Trevor) Niedfeldt, Rebecca (Joe) Male, eleven great grandchildren; and brother, Francis Wehner. He was also preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Irene, Clarence, Katherine "Katie", Florence and John A.

    A parish Rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 with visitation to follow until 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora.

    Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Holy Family Catholic Church or to Elara Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
