    CARBONDALE — Monica McCarter, 82, Carbondale, died Thursday, March 20, 1997, at a Topeka nursing home.

    She was born Jan. 27,1915, in Delia, the daughter of Michael B. and Elisabeth C. Salisbury Hurla. She had lived in the Auburn and Carbondale areas the past 43 years.

    Mrs. McCarter was a member of the Catholic church.

    She married Arthur Marshall McCarter on Aug. 8, 1932, in Delia. He died Sept. 16, 1964. Mrs. McCarter also was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Shaun A. McCarter, in 1990.

    Survivors include three daughters, Dolores L. Weekley, Carbondale, and Mary E. Dewey and Anna Mae Lucas, both of Topeka; six sons, Arthur W. McCarter, James C. McCarter and Joseph A. McCarter, all of Topeka, Jerald B. McCarter, Auburn, Michael A. McCarter, Carbondale, and Charles E. McCarter, Harveyville; four sisters, Beulah Curran, Big Springs, Elizabeth Seematter, Beattie, and Mary Bridges and Regina Riddle, both of Topeka; a brother, Bernard Hurla, Paxico; 35 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3625 S.W. 29th, Topeka, 66614.
