    FORMER ROSSVILLE FOLK CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING
    8 March 1945

    Wednesday, Jan. 17, was the 50th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. B.W. Ayers [sic Ayres] and the occasion was celebrated with a luncheon for their family and friends at their home west of town (Uvalde, Texas), at 1 o’clock. Deliciously pepared meats, salads, pies and the traditional golden wedding cake, three tiers with decorations in yellow roses on a white background, were served.

    Rev. L.C. Beasley, pastor of the Methodist Church, made a short talk an asked divine blessing on the aged couple and assembled group. Many other friends called during the afternoon and evening to offer congratulations.

    Mr. Ayers was born in northern Illinois 38 miles from Chicago. He met his wife in Rossville, Kansas, in the spring of 1894 and they were married there the following year. In their half-century of married life they have witnessed many changes, but always held fast to their faith in God and the future of this great nation. Nobly have they done their part in standing for the things that have made life worthwhile. They have five living children, all of whom were here for the celebration. Roy and Clyde, both of Houston; J.C. of Bracketville, Frank of Uvalde and Mrs. A. Morrow of Uvalde. There are 15 grandchildren. All were present except one sons of Mrs. Morrow who is in the armed forces and has been overseas for 18 months in Italy, and the oldest son of J.C. Ayers, who is in the service in Dublin, Ga. Mrs. Flora E. Baker, of Topeka, Kan., sister of Mr. Ayers, was also present.

    Mrs. Ayers in the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Hopkins, and sister of Ina Hopkins of Rossville They left here around 45 years ago.
