    Omar S. Boyd
Omar Spencer Boyd, son of William S. Boyd and Laura Belle Pollette Boyd, was born on a farm northeast of Irving, Kansas, where he spent his early life in farming. Later he took up an active business life.
In 1937, he married the former Miss Alice Hilton, and to this union was born one daughter, Ann Louise Boyd.
In 1945, Mr. Boyd purchased his present store from the late Ira T. Hopkins, and brought his family to Rossville to make their home, coming here from Wamego.
During the few short years he lived here, his friendly manner and quiet humor made him beloved by all who came to know him well, both young and old.
He was an active and faithful member, of the Rossville Methodist church.
Mr. Boyd passed away January 8, at the Genn hospital in Wamego.
Besides Mrs. Boyd and Ann he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Emma Miller of Frankfort, Kans.; and six brothers: John A. Boyd and Tom Boyd of Irving, Kans.; George Boyd, of Frankfort; Frank Boyd, Melrose, Iowa; Lawrence Boyd, Ordway, Colo.; Charles Boyd, Hoxie, Kansas.
Funeral services were conducted this Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. Don Jones officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Don Jones and Mrs. Inez Richardson accompanied by Mrs. Irene Campbell.
Pall bearers were nephews of Mr. Boyd, including: Verne Boyd, Maurice Boyd, Rollin Boyd, John Ensley, James Boyd and Everett Denton.
    Burial was at Irving, Kansas.
“I cannot say, and I will not say that he is dead, He is just away. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He has wandered into an unknown land, and left us dreaming how very fair it needs must be, since he lingers there. And you-Oh, you, who the wildest yearn, for an old-time step, and the glad return, think of him faring on, as dear in the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same, I say, He is not dead-he is just away” – James Whitcomb Riley
