Rita M. (Glotzbach) Heigert, 94, of Paxico, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 11,2017. She was bom December 20,1922 in Paxico, the daughter of Ben and Katherine (Buscher) Glotzbach.
She attended Paxico schools, graduating from Paxico High School in 1940 and attending K.S.U. for a year. Rita worked as a clerk at the Topeka offices of the Sante Fe Railroad during WWII, and married Henry S. Heigert on May 5, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Newbury. They lived in Colby, Kansas while Henry worked as a foreman at Colby Experiment Station from 1947 to 1957. They moved backtoPaxicoinl957, and operated the Home Oil Co. and Paxico Fina service station, with Rita working as the bookkeeper until their retirement in 1981.
She was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Sodality. She was also a member of the Paxico Senior Center. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, dancing, roller skating, and was an avid swimmer. She loved to take vacations, and especially loved sharing time at the lake with her family.
Rita’s survivors include, three sons: Tom Heigert (Joyce), and Donald Heigert, all of Paxico, KS, and Charles Heigert (Marty) of Alma, KS; four daughters: Susan Hernandez of Kansas City, KS, Kathy Bahner (Tom) of Rossville, KS, Ann Jegel (Joe) of Topeka, KS, and Ramona Roth (Dan) of Paxico, KS; 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Henry Heigert; one sister, Agnes; and one brother, Jerome.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Jan. 14th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Newbury. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, P.O. Box 126, Alma, KS 66401.
