Evelyn was born March 22,1929, in Kelly, Kansas, to Bernard (Barnie) and Mary Agnes Knipper Niehues. She graduated from St. Bede's High School in Kelly, Kansas.

She will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humor which she maintained even in her last days. She was always strengthened by her deep abiding faith in the Lord. She was previously a member of St. James Catholic Church, and Altar Society, in Wetmore, Kansas; St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton, Kansas; and since 2002, Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka, Kansas.
