Mr. and Mrs. L.L. "Chick" Barnes will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, May 7. Their children and grandchildren invited friends and relatives to a reception from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the city hall in Soldier. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, the former Florence D. Riggs, were married May 17, 1922, at Soldier by Rev. R.O. Gilpin. Their three sons are Ronald L. Barnes, Delia; Jarrel L. Barnes, Soldier; and Robert A. Barnes, Berryton. |

Barnes will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a reception at Ward-Meade Park, Preston Hale Room, on Sunday, March 13, 1988, from 3 until 5:30 p.m. Hosting the reception are their children — Jack A. Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Lesser, Mr. and Mrs. Terry W. Barnes, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald R. Barnes, all of Topeka.
Ronald Barnes and Marilyn Vanderwall were married March 14, 1948 at Soldier.

Ronnie and Marilyn Barnes of Topeka will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4:30 p.m. March 29 at the Governor's Row House. 811 S.W. Buchanan.
Hosts will be their children. Jack Barnes. Sabetha, and Bill and Vicki Lesser, Terry and Debi Barnes and Ray Barnes, all of Topeka. They have nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Ronald Barnes and Marilyn Vanderwall were married March 14. 1948, at the Soldier Christian Church.
Mr. Barnes retired in 1982 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
Mrs. Barnes retired in 1991 from the Kansas Museum of History.

Ronald L. “Ronnie” Barnes, 80, Topeka, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka.
He was born December 20, 1924 in Soldier, the son of Lester L. and Florence O. Riggs Barnes.
He graduated from Soldier High School in 1942 and attended Kansas State University. He lived in Delia for 21 years before moving to Topeka in 1978.
Ronnie worked for Goodyear in Topeka for 29 ½ years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of Rolling Hills Christian Church, Topeka. He was a member of United Rubber Workers Union Local #307.
He married Marilyn J. Vanderwall on March 14, 1948, in Soldier. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Jackie A. Barnes, Sabetha, Terry W. Barnes and Ronald R. Barnes, both of Topeka; a daughter, Vickie Jo Lesser, Topeka; two brothers , Jarrel L. Barnes and Robert A. Barnes, both of Topeka; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
His service was Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home, Holton. Burial was in Soldier Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
