Bernice Mary Roth was born December 9, 1923 to John and Elizabeth Stitz in Baileyville, Kansas. In her early twenties she migrated to California to assist in the Rosie the Riveter war cause. She was acquainted with her husband Mike’s sister who introduced her to him. They married in Baileyville, Kan-sas in 1944. She and Mike started their family in Paxico but later moved to Emmett to the family home of more than 50 years. When her health failed her, she moved to St Marys Manor.
Bernice was known for her cooking. Besides cooking for her family, she could be counted on for meals for unexpected friends, church bazaars and later in life contributed faithfully to the food pantry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike and her infant son Gerald. Surviving are daughters. Sister Linda Roth, Kansas City, Patricia (Rick) Jones. Mary Roth, and Judy (Sam) Grant, all of Topeka; sons, Mike (Ann) Roth, Shelburne, Vermont, Joe (Barbara) Roth, Rossville, Gary (Tina) Roth, St. Marys, John (Kim) Roth, Steve Roth all of Emmett and James (Becky) Roth, Paxico; three sisters, her twin, Bernita Mary Campo, Bothell, WA, Alma Mastrogivanni, Eugene, OR, and Marcelle Montgomery, Topeka; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys followed by a lunch. Interment was at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett. A Rosary was recited at 5:00 P.M. Friday, August 25 at Piper Funeral Home where the family received friends from 5:30 until 6:30 and a Prayer Service was at 6:30. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys Manor Bus Fund and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple Street, St. Marys, Kansas 66536.
