    John M. Browne

    ST. MARYS--Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Verschelden Funeral Home here for John. M. Browne, St. Marys. He died Sunday, June 2, 1985, at his home.

    Mr. Browne taught, coached and served as principal in schools at Lillis, Delia, and St. Marys before he retired in 1950. He later taught at St. Marys High School. He also farmed in Jackson County.

    He was born in Jackson County near Emmett, the son of Michael and Catherine McAnerney Browne. He was graduated from St. Marys College and earned a masters degree from Kansas State College at Manhattan.

    Mr. Browne was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Council No. 657 of Knights of Columbus, both at St. Marys; and of the National Retired Teachers Association.

    He was married to Gertrude M. Rezac June 13, 1931, at St. Marys. She died March 5,1976. A son, Larry Browne, died in 1944.

    Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert L. Browne, Prescott, Ariz.; and a sister, Josephine Browne, Emmett.

    Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys. Mr. Browne will lie in state after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
