    Obituary- Burnett, Ballard
    "Ballard Preston Burnett, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otto Peiper, at 1409 T Ave., Sat. afternoon, was laid to rest this afternoon in the Island City cemetery, following funeral services at2 o'clock at the Snodgrass and Zimmerman mortuary. The Rev. H. K. Wallis of Enterprise, officiated at the services. Mr. Burnett, who was 82 years 10 months and 27 days of age, was born in Patrick county, Virginia, Dec. 6, 1846. He was married to Sarah Moore in Oct. 1874 and 12 children were born to this union, of whom two died in infancy. Mrs. Burnett passed on March 19, 1923. His survivors are Mrs. Dick Smith and Mrs. Lee Smith of Island City; Mrs. Lewis Huson of Sumner, Wash.; Mrs. Jesse Griffin and Mrs. Ward Smith, of Hoquiam, Wash.; Mrs. Peiper, Obe Burnett and Richard Burnett, of LaGrande; Alvie Burnett of Moscow, Ida.; and Lawrence Burnett of Echo, Ore." -- From a La Grande, Ore. paper.

    Mr. Burnett is a brother of Mrs. M. Hass, of this community. He visited here about four years ago. At one time he was a citizen of Kansas, coming to this state in 1857 with his parents and moving on to Oregon in 1883. The deceased gentleman was a member of the Dunkard church.
